2 pages ranking for same keyword.. Need some advice on what to do.
-
Here's my question. When I first started my website we started Using keyword anchor building links To my homepage . Over the years Our business has expanded to more than just baby headbands. I now have a baby headband page. When tracking my rankings. I sometimes see Both pages in Google for the same keyword. Other days I do not see both of them. My question is Should I continue building links and keyword anchor text for the home page Or should I switch them and start building keyword-rich anchor text for my baby headband page. I'm just wondering if the Search engine is confused by the two. When searching for the keyword baby headbands. I will sometimes show up for eight and nine. 8 is my home page and 9 is for the baby headband page. I have always shown up for the keyword "baby Headbands" for my home page.

Thank you for the info.
For this: "update your home page meta data to focus on your brand and overall category (baby accessories maybe? sorry, not too familiar with your niche)"
Ok so to Clarify, I should focus the meta data on "baby Headbands, Baby Girl Headbands, Headbands for Babies" and then mention that we sell other things.
So maybe this meta Title:
Baby Headbands - Baby Girl Headbands - Infant Headbands - Baby Bow Headbands - Hair Bows for Little Girls at Princess Bowtique!
Meta Description:
Baby Headbands or Flower Baby Headbands Beautiful Infant Headbands, Tutus, and Baby Hair Bows, Pettiskirts, and Baby Clothes at Princess Bowtique! 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. We sell the cutest clothes for babies!
Thank you,
Tiffiny

Sorry for the confusion... I just meant that since that's your primary product, and at one point your only product, the page still has a strong focus on that topic. You need that baby headbands category page, and of course, you don't want to wipe all focus from your home page, so there's not a whole lot you can do here.
Some things you might try:
- update your home page meta data to focus on your brand and overall category (baby accessories maybe? sorry, not too familiar with your niche)
- move the content at the bottom of your category page above the fold
- in your home page paragraph, use 'baby headbands' as anchor text linking to the category page
-
Thank you for your response. This is my homepage... www.princessbowtique.com
So you suggest all my content on the home page be all about baby headbands even though I have another category page selling baby headbands.

Hey Tiffiny,
Typically your homepage is going to have much stronger PA than any other page, which means more pull on search engine algorithms. If your site started out selling baby headbands, chances are that was (and may still primarily be) the focus of content on your home page.Shifting algorithm focus to another page can be a lengthy and difficult process!
You've probably also got some links pointing to your home page with 'baby headband' anchor text - or variations on that - which is also contributing to your home page out-ranking your headband-specific page. As a whole, regardless of anchor text, you probably also have more links pointing to the home page.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though, if you've got 2 organic results for that keyword, you're even more likely to get the click!

Are image pages considered 'thin' content pages?
I am currently doing a site audit. The total number of pages on the website are around 400... 187 of them are image pages and coming up as 'zero' word count in Screaming Frog report. I needed to know if they will be considered 'thin' content by search engines? Should I include them as an issue? An answer would be most appreciated.

How similar do pages need to be to utilize the canonical tag
One of my pages is a help and questions page about completing a conversions and the other is the actual campaign landing page. They are both ranking for the same term. While the subject of both pages is similar the content is not. Is the rel canonical tag appropriate here?

Penguin 2.1 update, ranking dropped.
Hi, My website was hit by Google's new update like never before, first my ranking dropped back in May when Google rolled out with their second Penguin update, back then i was outsourcing my SEO since most of the time i was working on optimizing my local maps. As soon as noticed my traffic dropped i start doing SEO my self, I removed over optimized keywords on website ( title, meta description) then i analyzed my link profile and found that i had a lot of commercial anchor text linking from spammy websites, mostly blog comments. Its been over 4 months since I used Google's disavow tools in hoping that will help me get my raking back, but i still see these spammy links in my profile, 90% of them are nofollow anyways , so i'm not sure if disavow tool helped me at all. With this Penguin 2.1 update my website ended up on page 4-10 for 90% of my keywords http://screencast.com/t/3bcw8LUxpj Im not sure what would be the best way out this, should i buy a new domain and start fresh? Please let me know if you want to take a look on my link profile and give your opinion. Looking forward to your help!

Keyword Targeting with Dynamic Pages
We have a large e-commerce website made with .net. so all of our category and item pages are made dynamic. Most things like title, some of the words and a few other things are done with scripts. I want to be able to target certain words and have more customized words on certain pages. Has anyone dealt with this? I know .net is pretty common so I can't be a unique case.

Searching on root domain words = ranking on > page 10 in SERP
Hello, Our website wingmancondoms.com (a new condom brand) is not ranking in Google on the keywords "wingman condom", and I don't know why. In Yahoo and Bing everything is allright. I saw on this forum that it is maybe best to change my language URL's to wingmancondoms.com/nl /de and /fr instead of a direct URL like http://www.wingmancondoms.com/wingman-kondome (german translation). But is this our problem or are there more problems. Google is indexing our page well, no errors etc. Any other possibilities?

Sudden drop in ranking google.co.uk ranking
Anyone else had any sudden drops in rankings this week? Is there an update going on? One of my primary keywords has dropped from 6th to 49th in the google.co.uk search results. Not in webmaster tools to flag an issue. I have downloaded the links from webmaster and it does look if some content has been scraped and then linked back to us from a large number of sites that we have never sort links from. I have upload the google disavow link tool. Only one keyword appears to be effected not all of them? Any ideas? Thanks

Does part of a keyword phrase need to be repeated in a sub folder?
I have a page that targets "web design" at /web-design/ I also have a page at /web-design/price-cost-calculator/ In the second page the target keyword is "web design price" and "web design cost". Do I need to repeat the "web design" part in the sub folder, or is it sufficient to have it in the root folder? I.e., /web-design/price-cost-calculator/ or /web-design/web-design-price-cost-calculator/

Can I use canonical tags to merge property map pages and availability pages to their counterpart overview pages?
I have a property website, for each property are 4-5 tabs each with their own URL, these pages include the overview page which is content rich, and auxilliary pages such as maps, availability, can I use a canonical tag to merge the tabs with very little content to their corresponding overview page which is content rich? I.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/overview This page has tabs for map, town info, availability which all have their own url i.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/map
