Homepage Title Tag - Key phrases spread too thin? Advice please
-
Hi there. Im newish to SEO and first time poster here (so apologies if I've posted in the incorrect place), and I'm hoping for some advice on my homepage title tag. Its is:
"Asbestos Surveys & Removal, Kent & Sussex - MyBusinessName Asbestos Surveyors UK"
Im hoping to target keyphrases "Asbestos Surveys Kent", "Asbestos Surveys Sussex", "Asbestos Removal Kent", "Asbestos Removal Sussex", "Asbestos Surveyors UK".
My question is, have I attempted to jam too much in? By breaking the location bits away from "Asbestos Surveys", will it rank poorly for "Asbestos Surveys Kent"? Should I only target "Surveys" OR "Removal".
Many thanks in advance.

Hello Gemma,
Title tag is one of the most important things on your webpage. Like me, this was also my first question here on Moz about 5 years ago. Back then I was referencing Rand Fishkin's post from 2008 about how to structure a title tag. At the time it was recommended to use no more than 80 characters in the title, today that recommendation is 60 characters. In practice I still refer to Rand's original post for guidance and I love to reference it for people who want to learn.
I think you pretty much got your title tag right, but I would think about removing the last bit, "Asbestos Surveyors UK". So you end up with "Asbestos Surveys & Removal, Kent & Sussex - MyBusinessName". 58 chars depending on the length of your business name.
As you can see in Rand's post on how he was able to target multiple keywords, your title tag follows that logic to the T. The last bit is somewhat redundant and just takes up more space. Breaking down the last bit..."Asbestos Surveyors UK"
- Asbestos is already stated and at the very beginning of your title tag which means it has the most weight.
- Surveyors is a noun that can be derived from the act of the survey which is already in your title
- UK while important, is somewhat implied by Kent & Sussex. Having your address on your site, or server in the UK will likely get you that correlation by Google anyway.
To answer your questions specifically;
Did you jam to much in? - No, I don't think so. You want to use as much of that title as you possibly can!
By breaking the location bits away from "Asbestos Surveys", will it rank poorly for "Asbestos Surveys Kent"? - Its hard to say how it will rank because the title tag is only part of the equation. Obviously Asbestos Surveys Kent is stronger when those words are together, but your example will still show strong for that keyword.
Should I only target "Surveys" OR "Removal"? - Well again this comes down to other factors, but I wouldn't remove either one if they are both part of your business model. All in all I think you did a good job on your title tag creation, it hits all of your keywords and doesn't sound spamming. I would really consider removing that last bit and run with it.
My thoughts,
Don

Tags - Good or bad for SEO
We are getting Moz errors for duplicate content because tag pages share the same blog posts. Is there any way to fix this? Are these errors bad for SEO, or can I simply disregard these and ignore them? We are also getting Moz errors for missing descriptions on tag pages. I am unsure how to fix these errors, as we do not actually have pages for these on our WordPress site where we are able to put in a description. I have heard that having tags can be good for SEO? (We don't mind having several links that show up when searching for us on google...) As far as the SEO goes, I am not sure what to do. Does anyone know the best strategy?

The meta tags: Title and Description, showing unexpected results on google
When I type my company name on google "Navneet Gems", it shows a very different meta tag then what it actually is. How do I change this meta descrption when its non-existent on my homepage? The worst is, it is having a spelling mistake. We want to correct this.

Meta tags - removal
A couple of months ago, I did something that has caused me great angst. My website unique visitors was on a steady growth path for about 3 years. I swapped out my SEO plugin, from all-in-one, to Yoast. I then removed all of my meta tags. My site has about 2000 unique posts. After doing that my unique visitors has been on a steady decline of me loosing traffic at a rate of 5 to 10% of my visits. Any thoughts on the best remediation plan I should use. I put back in the meta tags, but wasn't sure of the SEO plugin switch caused the issue.

Which is better, have our location in the title or have a title that is 66 characters?
I was told by an SEO company that I need to put our name and location in every page title, however, an seomoz.org campaign gave me warnings for having a page title that is too long. Which is better, have our location in the title or have a title that is 66 characters? We have both a physical and online store, so it would still be nice to direct foot traffic to our physical store.

Temp redirects of homepage URLs
Working on a site for a client and the CMS provider has all variants of their domain (.co.uk & .com and / and http:// etc) temp redirecting to the /default.aspx homepage. I know in theory that this means no Google Juice is being passed to the final location page, does this mean that all backlinks that point to their domain are not actually passing Juice onto the homepage? Thanks

Duplicate content on homepage?
Hi I have just created a new campaign and it states that I have duplicate page content which would affect search rankings. Basically it is counting my site www.mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com/index.php as two seperate pages. How can I make it so that only www.mydomain.com is visible reducing the duplicate content issue? Many Thanks

Tags to index or to no index that is the Question
Sorry for the silly Shakespearean introduction but what are peoples opinions on leaving tag clouds to be indexed or no indexable by the search engines. I tend to leave them non indexable at the moment. I use wordpress for blogging as do most others.
