Should I be worried about our 'Duplicate' content
-
Hi guys...
I've just been working through some issues to give our site a little cleanup. I'm working through our duplicate content issues (we have some legitimate duplicate pages that need removing, and some of our dynamic content is problematic. Are web developers are going to sort with canonical tags this week.)
However...
There are some pages that are actually different products, but are very similar pages that are 'triggering' MOZ to say we have duplicate pages.
Here an example...
and
They are very similar refill products, it's just the diary format is different.
Question: Should I be worried about this? I've never seen our rankings change in the past when 'cleaning up' duplicate content.
What do you guys think?
Isaac.

That does help thank you. Really appreciate your time, and I can see how the extra content on the products pages could help with conversion.

Hi Isaac,
This question pops up a lot in the forum. Here's what's happening: Moz flags any two pages on a site with 90% or higher source code match as duplicates. When you account for the code that makes up your template (header/footer/styles/etc.) that's often the bulk of the source code of a particular page. In the examples you provided, the product details and descriptions aren't robust enough to make a distinguished difference for Moz.
What you can do to handle this is write unique descriptions for each product, add more specs & details, a Q&A section, or even customer reviews. While this seems like a lot of effort for a duplicate content issue that probably isn't that big of a deal, everything listed there will vastly help your user experience and drive them closer to purchase.
Hope that helps!

Duplicate content in sidebar
Hi guys. So I have a few sentences (about 50 words) of duplicate content across all pages of my website (this is a repeatable text in sidebar). Each page of my website contains about 1300 words (unique content) in total, and 50 words of duplicate content in sidebar. Does having a duplicate content of this length in sidebar affect the rankings of my website in any way? Thank you so much for your replies.

Putting content behind 'view more' buttons
Hi I can't find an upto date answer to this so was wondering what people's thoughts are. Does putting content behind 'view more' css buttons affect how Google see's and ranks the data. The content isn't put behind 'view more' to trick Google. In actual fact if you see the source of the data its all together, but its so that products appear higher up the page. Does anyone have insight into this. Thanks in advance

How to deal with duplicate content when presenting event and sub-events information?
Hi, I'm have a sport event calendar website.
On-Page Optimization | | ahotu
It presents events that may have multiple races.
The event has its own page as well as the races. example :
Event: /event/edinburgh-marathon-festival Races:
/race/emf-half-marathon
/race/emf-10-km
/race/edinburgh-marathon
/race/emf-5-km The pages may have a lot of information in common (location, date, description) and they all link to each other.
What would be the best practices to avoid having the pages considered duplicate content by Google? Thanks0 -

Sliders and Content Above the Fold
I was just inspecting a wire frame that is going out to a client and realized that the slider may interfere with the "content above the fold." Can't believe this had not struck me on others. If the Header has basic business info, etc. in it and you place a slider to display images in the area just beneath the Header or slightly down from it, does that decrease the amount of content seen a being above the fold? Or, is content above the fold established by virtue of H1,2, 3, etc.?

How much constitutes duplicate content in your opinion?
Mornin' In your experience, how much constitutes duplicate content? A sentence, a paragraph, half a page, etc? What about quotes - are they considered duplications, too, if there aren't quotation marks? Over the years, the client has been a bit bad in taking a paragraph from here, a sentence from there, and coupling it all together as daily news on their site. I'm now in the middle of a purge. Oh boy! All hail originality.
