Poor internal linking?
-
Hi guys,
Analyzing a large e-commerce site 10,000 pages on Magento and not getting much organic traffic to level 3 sub-category pages, the URLs are like:
Primary Keyword Target: BODY MOISTURISERS
https://www.adorebeauty.com.au/skin-care/bath-body/moisturisers.html
Primary Keyword Target: LIP MASKS
https://www.adorebeauty.com.au/skin-care/masks/lip-masks.html
Plus another 40 other URLs at level 3 with low organic performance.
Authority of the domain is strong, so it's not an authority issue I believe its internal linking.
Besides linking form the blog and breadcrumbs is there anything we can do to improve internal linking to these level 3 pages?
Cheers.

Hey Natty,
Not sure how much organic traffic you consider to be "not much", but either way, there are a few things you may want to consider:
1. Create content for each category page that is unique to them (e.g. create category description for "Body Moisturizers"). This will help create relevancy and reduce your overall "thin" and "duplicate" content throughout the site.
2. While it appears that the page is in main GG's index (as found here), I'd recommend adding links on the home page that deep link to the categories you're wanting to gain more traction with. Doing this will help reduce the crawl depth of the page and would help distribute some of the authority that the home page has, directly to those sub-pages. You could do this in a "categorical module" (e.g. create a visual box for a category "Skin Care") which has a sentence or two description w/ links to the sub-cats you really want to bring further up...could do max 5 links with a "view all skin care products" at the bottom of it.
3. You'll notice in the site search link from above that you have many pages indexed for the single page we searched for. This represents a duplicate content issue. Checking the paginated results pages (which is what those extra results are), you'll notice the URL canonicals to itself (which is fine if the content is truly unique, but in this case, it doesn't appear to be). You'll also notice that the canonical references conflict with the hreflang references.
In any event, just some thoughts. Hope this helps!
Cheers.

Hello,
This can be hard because you have a bunch of products on the page and very little text on each one. In my opinion, I think Google may be a little confused and so more links that are descriptive on a particular product level may help. Keep trying to get hi-quality "Do-Follow" links to the particular product pages that are as specific as possible.
Then follow up with a lot of category-based links to the particular category pages. It is not easy, but it looks like you are on the right track and just have to keep pushing to get the desired results.
Best Regards

Anchor Test (do follow link)
Hi, I am new to SEO, may I know how many anchor text with a do-follow link I should aim for a 500-1000 words guest post? also, what is the percentage of different type of anchor text per post, e.g. ( 20% Branded, 20% Exact-match, 20% Naked link and more? I know that quality is more important, but is there any magic number and the percentage I should really aim for? Kind regards CHRIS

Link building strategy
Hello Moz Community, For the last couple of months we have been trying to improve our ranking in Google UK for the keyword "church candles" http://www.wattsandco.com/church-supplies/church-candles.html We’ve been contacting relevant interiors/lifestyle blogs to feature our candles including anchor text linking back to our page. Our anchor text has been predominately our brand (Watts & Co) but also other key search terms (Watts and Co church candles, Watts and Co pillar candles). We have been tracking our ranking for the keyword “Church candles” using the Moz “ Rank Tracker” and we started on position 15 in Google UK. We went up to 12 briefly before moving down every week to 15, 17, 19 and 22. We checked today and we have moved back up slightly to 19. Our progress seems to be a bit slow and inconsistent. We wanted to reach out for any advice on how we can move up? If there was any way we can improve our strategy? Here’s the links we have built so far: http://nostalgiecat.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/what-autumn-means-to-me.html http://blog.pollyrowan.com/2015/10/5-small-ways-to-decorate-your-home-that.html http://www.happyhomebird.com/2015/10/watts-co-candles-for-cosy-autumn-home.html http://www.frolic-blog.com/2015/10/beeswax-candles-for-fall/ http://hisforhomeblog.com/lighting/watts-co-church-candles/#axzz3qhqN1wzA http://lorilangille.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/sponsored-post-watts-and-co.html http://www.californiahomedesign.com/product-finds/waxing-poetic-must-have-candles Thanks so much!

SEO and Internal Pages
Howdy Moz Fans (quoting Rand), I have a weird issue. I have a site dedicated to criminal defense. When you Google some crimes, the homepage comes up INSTEAD of the internal page directly related to that type of crime. However, on other crimes, the more relevant internal page appears. Obviously, I want the internal page to appear when a particular crime is Googled and NOT the homepage. Does anyone have an explanation why this happens? FYI: I recently moved to WP and used a site map plugin that values the internal pages at 60% (instead of Weebly, which has an auto site map that didn't do that). Could that be it? I have repeatedly submitted the internal pages via GWT, but nothing happens. Thanks.

Subdomain Metrics Links??
I have been analysing my companies website against our competitors and we beat them hands down on everything apart from the total links in the subdomain metrics. Our competitor jumped above us a couple of months ago to grab the number one spot for our industries most valuable keyword. They have had a new website designed and after looking at the source code and running it through SEO MOZ in comparison to our site I can't see how they have manged to do it. We beat them hands down on all factors apart from subdomain metrics > Total links where they have twice as many. When it comes to Page Specific Metrics and Root Domain Metrics we easily beat them on all factors. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to improve the subdomain metrics? Thanks

Link Building on a small budget
Hi Folks I'm looking for recommendations from the community that can help me tic the requirements below; Looking for link-building services for a small start up. Prefer to work directly with the person doing the work. Prefer that they speak English 🙂 Have a small monthly budget so not looking for big organisations, rather a expert who is working on his/her own, and can have a phone conversation with me before engagement. Any-hoots I may be looking for a needle in a haystack here but any recommendations on people would be highly appreciated 🙂 PS: I know SEOmoz recommends some folks, but wow they are expensive ... can't afford that

How do I reduce internal links & cannibalisation from primiary navigation?
SEOmoz tools is reporting each page on our site containing in excess of 200 internal links mostly from our primary navigation menu which it says is too many. This also causes cannibalization on the word towels which i would like to avoid if possible. Is there a way to reduce the number of internal links whilst maintaining a good structure to allow link juice to filter through the site and also reduce cannibalization?
