Content for ecommerce site
-
How important on site/page contents are for ecommerce site. Keeping in mind the page layout.
-
Its not that important to have page copy/content at all for ecommerce sites
-
If yes, does position of content is an important factor?
-
if putting page copy/content in upper fold of a page then the most important thing which is product itself will have less exposure
-
if putting near the footer of the page, does that seem like doing just for the sake of SEs and ranking.
-
How important internal linking form that content would be compare to left panel links or links at the header of a website
Thanks
Rick

Thanks for your reply. You are talking about product pages, which is very specific. I am talking about category and subcategory pages where products are in grids, those pages are for main kws.
Thanks

Content can be really important for ecommerce sites. When you're selling a product that 100 other sites are selling and describing the same, good quality content can give you a competitive advantage.
You can put this content under the product. That's what Amazon does. I wouldn't bury it under the footer though. I mean ultimately, you are adding the content for the sake of SE's and rankings but if it helps you convert a sale then it serves two purposes. And the new copy would give you a good internal cross-linking opportunity for other keywords.

Site wide content like "why choose us" just above the footer on every single page
Hi Guys, I know that is not good having any kind of duplicate content on your site, but SEO is above all "competition", so I have to see what my competitor are doing to find the best way to outrank them. So this is my question: is it good or not having site wide content like "why choose us" just above the footer on every single page? At the moment, I can see many - too many - of my client competitors having the "Why choose us" as site wide content above the footer. The funny thing they don't use a couple of sentences, they have placed many words and 10/20 internal links, in other words, they have enough stuff to put down a stand alone page. What do you think: this is just a bad SEO practice or it may work, as I can see so many sites ranking well with this kind of piece of junk on each page. I am not going to recommend this to my client, but as am trying to detail every decision I make showing what the competitors are currently doing, my concern is that my client finds it and therefore will ask to have the same shiny piece of garbage above the footer. Thanks, Pierpaolo

Stolen Content reposted on other sites. How does this affect ranking?
Visitors often copy and paste my content and post it elsewhere... on Facebook, on Tumblr, on forums and sometimes on competing websites... but they don't link to me. How does Google treat this duplicated content? What is the best way to handle it? File DCMA claims or ask them for a link?

Is there a way to tell Google a site has duplicated content?
Hello, We are joining 4 of our sites, into 1 big portal, and the content from each site gonna be inside this portal and sold as a package. We don't wanna kill these sites we are joining at this moment, we just wanna import their content into the new site and in a few months we will be killing them. Is there a way to tell Google to not consider the content on these small sites, so the new site don't get penalised? Thanks,

Duplicate Content - Potential Issue.
Hello, here we go again, If I write an article somewhere, lets say Squidoo for instance, then post it to my blog on my website will google see this as duplicate content and probably credit Squidoo for it or is there soemthing I can do to prevent this, maybe a linkk back to Squidoo from my website or a dontfollow on my website? Im not sure so any help here would be great, Also If I use other peoples material in my blog and link back to them, obviously I dont want the credit for the original material I am simply collating some of this on my blog for others to have a specific library if you like. Is this going to damage my websites reputation? Thanks again peeps. Craig Fenton IT

What is the best way to manage industry required duplicate Important Safety Information (ISI) content on every page of a site?
Hello SEOmozzer! I have recently joined a large pharmaceutical marketing company as our head SEO guru, and I've encountered a duplicate content related issue here that I'd like some help on. Because there is so much red tape in the pharmaceutical industry, there are A LOT of limitations on website content, medication and drug claims, etc. Because of this, it is required to have Important Safety Information (ISI) clearly stated on every page of the client's website (including the homepage). The information is generally pretty lengthy, and in some cases is longer than the non-ISI content on each page. Here is an example: http://www.xifaxan.com/ All content under the ISI header is required on each page. My questions are: How will this duplicated content on each page affect our on-page optimization scores in the eyes of search engines? Is Google seeing this simply as duplicated content on every page, or are they "smart" enough to understand that because it is a drug website, this is industry standard (and required)? Aside from creating more meaty, non-ISI content for the site, are there any other suggestions you have for handling this potentially harmful SEO situation? And in case you were going to suggest it, we cannot simply have an image of the content, as it may not be visible by all internet users. We've already looked into that 😉 Thanks in advance! Dylan

Why does Google no longer like our site?
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out why the traffic and rankings have been plummeting on www.readprint.com. It's a collection of both public domain books and books on Amazon's store. If anyone can offer any pointers as to if it's duplicate content or ??? It used to get 300K visits/mo but has slowly been dropping over the last year. I appreciate anyone's expertise!

Why is our site dropping in Domain Authority
Hi all, I have a question. I have been working SEO on our site www.betxpert.com for the last 4-6 weeks and I have been looking forward to seeing the new DA and PA numbers. However today, our DA is now 30...where it was 31 or 33 a couple of days ago. How come the decrease? I have only improved the site i should say... Hope someone can shed a little light on the issue... -Rasmus
