Does anyone have any experience getting local DMOZ listings?
-
I have a client with a business that has locations in about 20 different states. Can I get them local listings in DMOZ? If so, how?
-
I guess you can be thankful for the one you managed to get : )
-
DGSEO, as everyone else has stated, it's VERY unlikely that you'll be able to get more than one DMOZ listing. I know it took me weeks just to get one!!
-
Definitely, Liz... Google places works for this client very well.
Thanks!
-
Yeah... we're thankful to have the ones we've got!
-
You will have trouble getting any site listed in DMOZ!
Not saying it's impossible, but the last 5 sites I've tried to get listed have failed miserably despite following their guidelines definitively.
-
You would have difficulty getting one site listed in more than one category of DMOZ:
"You should submit a site to the single most relevant category. " http://www.dmoz.org/add.html
Is there a main office location you could use?
Google Places would be really important for you- setting a listing up for each location and ensuring to link to the most appropriate subdomain of the client's site.
Liz

How do I get rid of these nofollow backlinks from 1 comment I made?
I wrote a comment on another blog and now every single time that blog posts an article, it comes up as a nofollow backlink in OpenExplorer. It is really annoying to see when I check for new follow backlinks. I just wrote ONE comment on ONE blog post. How can I stop this? There are at least 10 showing up today! Thanks!

I am working on Google Reconsideration Request Process for a website and have been asked by a few links to pay a certain amount to have my link removed however, the links were placed without my knowledge is there any way to be able to get them to remove without having to pay especially since I did not ask to be linked anyway? Does anyone know if Google has a templete that has been used in the past that possibly works well to bypass charge due? Thanks!

Getting two BOTW.org listings? Regular drirectory + blog directory?
I have a start-up website. It's a niche market that's not all that competitive. I'm trying to get going with some basic link building, and I'm trying to focus for the time being on some recommended directories: BOTW, yahoo, business.com, etc. I already have a regular BOTW directory listing, accepted a few days ago. I'm wondering if it's worth also getting a BOTW blog directory listing? So two BOTW listings, the first pointing to the homepage, the second would point to the blog. If there is meaningful link juice to be passed, would there be an advantage of having two links? Or will the one I already have suffice? Also, since the site is new, I only have a few blog posts. Is BOTW likely to reject me because my blog is too thin? The posts I have are content-heavy (1000-2500 words per entry), but there's just not a large total quantity yet. Normally I wouldn't consider it, but they're having a cyber-monday sale today where it's 50% off the regular price, so it makes the decision easier. Thanks.

Can I get your expert opinion?
Hello fellow Mozzers! I've been brainstorming about getting links for my site and thought of the following scenario, let me know if its a good idea or not. Who we are: an IT consulting firm. There are many tech support forums and groups on the internet including Google, Yahoo and a few other big dogs... I thought it would be a good idea to browse them on daily basis and find questions/topics that haven't been answered or don't have any real clear good answers, or are very popular. Then create an article in the blog on our site describing the same exact problem with a solution. Then would post a response under that question/topic with a link back to the solution that is located on our site. Hoping that this will bring in more traffic, links, and authority... However I also thought about the possibility of getting spammed, since there are many spam sites that scrape forums and groups for web site addresses, email addresses, phones, etc... So what do you guys think, is it a good idea or should I stay away? Thank you!

Has anyone every researched how long before a link took effect.....
What I mean is lets assume you were to get a link from BBC or CNN how long does it take for that link to have a positive impact on your rankings? I ask because I am experiment with getting links from different sources and I want to try and nail down their real worth..... Also if you do get a link is it normal that google would crawl your site and if so do you see this reflected in googles cache immediately? Thanks

Ideas for structuring contest to get links?
Hi Mozzers, So I'm getting all set to run a contest. The prizes are great and I've developed a good way to promote it via paid and natural venues. I'm just not sure how to structure the actual contest so the end result is more links than mentions. One idea I had was to make this a story telling contest where the contestant blogs about a good/bad experience within the niche industry and adds a link back to us to enter. Does this seem like to much effort for the user? Prices are worth about $250 each, and I plan to have 3 winners. Any ideas on how to better gear this towards link building is appreciated. Thanks!

Local Search Citation Building - 2 links on 1 page?
I have the opportunity to display information about a business on a handfull of high PR web pages (with relevant content, not directory listings). I'd like to use these listings to build local search citations and homepage authority/rank for chosen anchortext. The format allows name, address, phone number, email & url plus a description of the business (short paragraph that can contain a link) - see below. Should I link from the homepage url and body anchor text? Will search engines ignore the anchor text used in the 2nd link? Example Limited, 123 Example Road, London N12 3AA United Kingdom Tel: 020 712 3456 Email: ** hello@example.com** **Web: www.example.com ** A unique service offering special widgets to customers in the London area
