Urgent: Campaign set up 'Select Competitors' errors
-
Hi.
Im setting up my first campaign and Im having issues with step 3: 'Select your competitors to track'.
I only want to track 1 competitor:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Murphy_(writer)
When I enter this and the competitor name into the form provided and click 'continue to next step'
it throws an error at me:
Darn, there are errors in your form! Don’t worry, Roger can’t feel pain.
- Competitors domain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ryan_murphy_(writer) may not have a /path after the host
- Domain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ryan_murphy_(writer) may not have a /path after the host
Can anyone help me as this is urgent.

Hey Jen,
Its so good to see you back!

Hi Ryan,
The problem I believe is that you are trying to track the specific page, rather than the entire domain (Of course I understand why in this case), but the feature is configured to track the domain and will therefore not accept a URL that includes the path following the trailing slash. Basically, it wants you to just enter http://en.wikipedia.org
I am not sure if SEOmoz staff will have any suggestion on solving this issue for your campaign, but you should email help [at] seomoz.org explaining your problem. Since it is a holiday weekend, you may need to wait a little while for a response, but I know that SEOmoz staff constantly surprise people by responding to enquiries when we don't expect them too, so give it a go. A direct email will definitely be the quickest way to let them know you have a problem.
In any case, while you cannot pull the information into your campaign, you can still obtain it using the Open Site Explorer tool. I ran your Comparison URL in Open Site Explorer , but there is insufficient data for this particular page so you will only see the domain information at present. You can find all of the information that is returned in a campaign using this tool. To compare with your own site, just click the "compare sites" link below the OSE search URL input, enter your own URL and then run the search.
You can also download the comparison report from OSE and run advanced reports if you wish to do so. Export to CSV and you will be able to utilize the information in Excel, or generate a PDF.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Hi Ryan,
Unfortunately right now when you set up competitors you can only set it to a domain and not to a subfolder. The current URL you're trying to use for a competitor will cause errors because it's a subfolder of wikipedia.org. If you have any additional questions, feel free to email help@seomoz.org to contact the SEOmoz help team directly.
Jen

Magento creating odd URL's, no idea why. GWT reporting 404 errors
Hi Mozzes! Problem 1 GWT and Moz, both are reporting approximately one hundred 404 errors for certain URL's. Examples shown below. We have no idea why or how these URL's are being created in Magento. Any hypothesis on the matter would be appreciated. The domain name in question is http://www.artorca.com/ These are valid URL's if /privacy is removed. The first URL is for a product, second for an artist profile and third for a CMS page 1. semi-abstract-landscape/privacy 2. jose-de-la-barra/privacy 3. seller-guide/privacy What may be the source for these URL's? What solution should we implement to fix existing 404's? 301 redirects should be fine? Problem 2 Website pages seem to also be accessible with index.php in the domain name. Example Artorca.com/index.php/URL's. Will this cause a duplicate content issue? Should we implement 301's, canonicals, or just leave as is? Cheers! MozAddict

Viewing past campaign reports
This is a basic SEOmoz question - Is there a way to view past campaign reports? I haven't manually "archived" any of my reports, because I didn't realize that may be important so it seems I might be out of luck on this. i would like to compare old reports to current ones and can't find a way to access the old reports.

Your opinion on this opportunity's difficulty?
I'm building a tool for mechanical engineers, and I'm trying to find 10 low-competition keywords to target in my first few content marketing efforts. I've got a lot of maneuvering room, so (with a bit of expert advice) I bet I'll be able to find some low-hanging fruit. Here's what I've found: Most keywords are seem to have about 40% difficulty. What's the highest level of SEOmoz "keyword difficulty" that a new website should reasonably try for? Some ranking high-authority pages are don't appear to be targeted at the term Is it fair to say that I could beat any page with less than a 'C' ranking for on-page optimization? (Assuming I target the term with general best practices)* Thanks! If you're interested, here is my current process: Go on engineering blogs for keywords Use Wordstream's Keyword Suggestion Tool for ideas around it Use Google Keyword Tools for keywords above 50 searches in direct match Use SEOmoz Keyword difficulty report, looking more deeply at keywords under <50% If I can find a top 10 page that's less than 30PA and less than 40DA, or has less than 'C' ranking for on-page optimization, I consider the keyword achievable within 3mo, using general best practices. *Except for YouTube/Wikipedia/etc

Duplicate page error from SEOmoz
SEOmoz's Crawl Diagnostics is complaining about a duplicate page error. I'm trying to use a rel=canonical but maybe I'm not doing it right. This page is the original, definitive version of the content: https://www.borntosell.com/covered-call-newsletter/sent-2011-10-01 This page is an alias that points to it (each month the alias is changed to point to the then current issue): https://www.borntosell.com/covered-call-newsletter/latest-issue The alias page above contains this tag (which is also updated each month when a new issue comes out) in the section: Is that not correct? Is the https (vs http) messing something up? Thanks!

Error 403
I'm getting this message "We were unable to grade that page. We received a response code of 403. URL content not parseable" when using the On-Page Report Card. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this? I feel like I've tried everything.
