In order to improve SEO with silos'urls, should i move my posts from blog directory to pages'directories ?
-
Now, my website is like this:
So I use silos urls. I'd like to improve my ranking a little bit more.
Is it better to change my urls like this:
- myurl.com/category1/blog/mypost.html or maybe myurl.com/category1/mypost.html
- myurl.com/category1/mypage.html
Thanks

It's not particularly important. "Blog" doesn't offer any sort of semantic importance to the content underneath. Singular and dense category landing pages are the goal with this strategy. That's more important than creating a URL distinction between your blog and static content.

I'll jump in even though you didn't ask
Really I think it makes the URI unnecessarily long.
While thinking about your site in terms of 'levels' the URI doesn't play that big a part (if all the posts are linked to from the home page for example that's still a second level page [for the most part]). However it is located at site/blog/category/page in the URI, which has at least one unnecessary directory.
Also, as a personal preference, I'd rather call my blog 'news', 'updates' or 'notices' in the URI.

I'm going to assume you don't already have many links into these pages since you're going to be messing around with them. If they do (and really even if they don't) make sure and set up the redirects correctly.
Site structure really depends a lot on the content that's on the site.
'example.com/category/title' is quite a good way of doing it.

I agree with Daniel here - its what in the pages that count more than the link structure.
Daniel Why would you say he should he ditch the blog in the path - if he has a blog he has a blog ??
-
Ditch "blog" in the URL entirely unless your model specifically keeps the blog under a separate directory as it currently is. Just ensure the category landing pages are syndicating content or provides some method of navigation that's relevant to the category.
Your existing model duplicates that landing page, so it's preferable to go: myurl.com/category1/mypost.html or myurl.com/blog/mypost.html.
This is really more of an accessibility and navigational issue, rather than SEO. It was big a few years ago, but I'm betting its effects will be negligible. It's just nice to have these sort of things organized, especially before you start a link building campaign where a small mistake in redirection could really hurt. I feel your time may be better spent on content strategy rather than PR sculpting.

Are In-Page Tabs still detrimental to SEO?
Hi Mozers, Are in-page tabs still detrimental for SEO? In-page tabs: allow you to alternate between views within the same context, not to navigate to different areas. As in one long HTML page that just looks like it's divided into different pages via tabs that you can click between. Each tab has it's own URL, which I guess is for analytics tracking purposes? https://XXX https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=1 https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=2 https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=3

What's the best redirect to use for a newer version of a blog post?
For example: suppose you have a post "The Best Games to Play for YouTube Gamers in 2016" and you want to make this a yearly series. Should you 301 the 2016 version to the new 2017 one? Should you use the canonical attribute? If 2016 isn't in the URL, should you make the 2017 one the new URL?

WordPress posts Title field inserts title into blog posts like a headline but doesn't ad H1 tag how to change?
I have a Wordpress website which is just using the Default theme, when I post in the blog, whatever I put in the "Title" field at the top of the editor is automatically is placed within the body of the blog post, like a headline, but it doesn't include any H1 tags that I can see. If I add my own headline within in the blog editor, it still inserts the Title like a headline. I am using the Yoast SEO Plugin and also write the meta title there, should I just leave the Wordpress title field blank so it doesn't insert into the blog post? Or is that inserted Title being recognized as an H1 even though I don't see h1 tags anywhere? Hope this isn't too confusing.

Moving hosting to another company/server . What about SEO?
Hi, We have been experiencing issues with our hosting company and want to move the hosting to someone else. One problem was that we did Isapi rewrite rule but the company moved to mod rewrite and they never adjusted the rewrite rules. We are considering a move to another hosting company - would that hurt rankings? Are there any SEO considerations to think about when switching to another host?

Multi-Location SEO: Sites vs Pages
I just started with a new company that requires multi-location SEO for its niche product/service. Currently, we have a main corporate website, as well as, 40+ individual dealer websites (we host all). Keep in mind each of these dealers consist of only 1-2 people, so corporate I will be managing the site or sites and content strategy. Many of the individual dealer sites actually rank very well (#1-#3) in their areas for our targeted keywords, but they all use the same duplicate content. Also, there are many dealer sites that have dropped off the radar in last year, which is probably because of the duplicate and static content. So I'm at a crossroads... Attempt to redo all of these location sites with unique and local content for each or Create optimized unique pages for each of them on our main site and redirect their current local domains to their page on our site Any advise regarding which direction to go in and why. Why is very important. It will be very difficult to convince a dealer that is #1 with his local site that we are redirecting to our main site, so I need some good ammo and reasoning. Also, any tips toward achieving local seo success will be greatly appreciated, too! Thank you!

Are Silos Still Important for SEO?
I am in the process of migrating www.nyc-officespace-leader.com from Drupal to Wordpress and my developer is of the opinion that it is not necessary to implement silos to achieve favorable ranking for competitive keywords. I know a lot has changed in the last two years with Panda and Penguin. Is it SEO best practices to implement silos in the course of the redesign? Will this make a significant difference for SEO? Thanks, Alan Rosinsky

Traffic drop off and page isn't indexed
In the last couple weeks my impressiona and clicks have dropped off to about half what it used to be. I am wondering if Google is punishing me for something... I also added two new pages to my site in the first week of June and they still aren't indexed. In the past it seemed like new pages would be indexed in a couple days. Is there any way to tell if Google is unhappy with my site? WMT shows 3 server errors, 3 Access denied, and 122 not found errors. Could those not found pages be killing me? Thanks for any advise, Greg www.AntiqueBanknotes.com

How to Make My Membership Pages More SEO Friendly
I'm working on a website that has multiple member pages. They are generated generically by the cms. Think of this website as a convention visitors bureau. Is it possible or is there a way that I can make the individual member pages more seo friendly. Other than the url structure, do anyway have any advice.
