Social Media Convergence Issues
-
Hello and Good Morning,
I have a tech convergence question...
In our social media package we have listed that we will subscribe to hubpages and scribd.
a lot of these services do the same thing (twitter vs identi.ca, color vs instagram, gowalla vs fourquare, ect), what are some of the better services to use and why? We have our favorites but they may not necessarily be the most effective.
thanks!

I'm not convinced social media is on a path of convergence. Each platform offers something different for its user base. But if you want to overcome the duplicity of multiple platforms, I found that Hootsuite.com has really helped me put a leash around social media management. Simply put, this platform combines all your social networks (Facebook, Facebooke pages, Flickr, Ping.fm, WorPress, etc.) and can post to all at once, or you can select which networks to post to at any given time. You can also schedule posts to be delivered on a schedule, which I find very convenient. Reports are pretty good in letting you know which post on each platform gives you the best response. I've also tried Hubspot but found it a bit under-featured and overpriced.

Glad I could help! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. Very insightful.
We work mainly with SMBs, and not retail. For them to go beyond FB and twitter is a stretch. In fact they can barely handle the idea of those two, so we dont want ot scare them off
LI seems more of a personal networking tool, the corporate pages are automated by LI and many areas (SUCH AS OLD EMPLOYEES) cant be removed without a lot of headaches. WE need something easy and affordable...probally based on the blog feeding all SM platofrms that we choose. I think options to add slideshare, scribd are good ideas. 4square, prob not viable for us at this time.
(This coment is form IWS owner, not my SMM, i thought id chip in and tell you how much i enjoyed your feedback)

Hi,
1. In terms of LinkedIn, here is a video that will help explain the power of LinkedIn: Linked Influence.
2. Myspace is still there for leverage, but I think the focus of it has moved towards music.
3. Photo sharing, I would recommend: Flickr and Photobucket.
4. I would definitely recommend Foursquare over Gowalla due to its massive popularity. And any features it may lack I am sure it will be developed within 6 months most likely.
5. I would skip the group texting, as this would be just one more thing to manage. I would have people just stick to communicating on Facebook and Twitter.
6. I would suggest Blogger and Wordpress.
7. I am not familiar with Fwix or Whatser.
8. Definitely go with Groupon, but you could certainly try Living Social for extra umpf!
9. Bump has multi phone support, I'd recommend that.
10. I would create offers for both Foursquare and Yelp if that's what the customers use. It would also create additional exposure for the business and helping them get people they would never normally have would make them happy.
11. Slideshare and Hubpages aren't apples to apples, but you should use both.
12. Use both Squidoo and Scribed.
Hope my opinion helps.

Hi Alex!
Thanks for your response!
A couple of items:
How effective do you think Linkedin is? We havent been terribly successful with it.
Myspace? Still? they are talking about shutting down...
What do you suggest for apps for photo sharing? Color? Instagram? or shall we stick to flickr?
What about for location based? We are pushing gowalla because the icons are larger on facebook and it syndicates to Foursquare.
In gowalla you can commission them to make custom badges, how do you feel about that?
grouped in or beluga? or none?
fwix or whatser?
tumblr or blogger? or none? just stick to wordpress? or a combination?
groupon or living social?
bump or cloudcard?
for brick and mortar clients should we be making foursquare or yelp offers for check ins?
slideshare or hub pages?
squidoo or scribd?
these are just a few examples....

The most effective social media solutions would be: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Myspace, Foursquare, etc.
These are the ones you would want to incorporate into your package.
If you could, clarify your question further so I can provide a better answer and so other people can join in too!

The relationship between Social Media and SEO?
I have read mixed reviews about the relationship between these two in the past. Are there any ways Social Media can improve SEO?

Best way to research the social potential of content (NOT just search potential).
I'm wondering if anyone in the community has found a good method for researching the social potential for content. I'll break down what I'm asking exactly so it makes more sense. In order for a page to get ranked highly on Google for a keyword it needs authority (usually). With social media having an ever increasing impact on the authority of content, creating content that has social value (shared, liked, talked about, etc) can really help increase the authority of that page in Google's eyes. In saying this if content is created that people search AND talk a lot about, it's authority will rise quickly, thus getting traffic through that keyword is easier and faster (not to mention your link building happens for you organically). I've formulated a pretty good keyword research process to find the search potential of creating content around that keyword; however I am looking at how to research the potential social value of content. I'm thinking the best way would be to crawl the social platforms and find trends in what people are talking about for the last x amount of time. Must be some patterns to look for in things like hashtags. At the end of the day I'd like to have content created based on both search keyword and social research. I'm looking for advice from people who have found a good way to do this social research on what they look for / what tools they use.

I have 3 different niches - Should I create 3 different Social Profiles/hubs?
So I have 3 completely different niches. As in B2B vs. B2C, as well as markets that are not related whatsoever. Unless your grandmother that likes to sew, just so happens to also love to demolish giant buildings (lol, I never thought about how polar opposite my niches were until I re-read that sentence). Anyways, I guess the company should also have profiles/hubs, but what about for Outreach? I feel like outreach should be done by a personal profile, since outreach is all about networking and building relationships. Any direction/help/tips here? Thanks everyone, Tyler A.

Value in content from website being shared across social media?
If I write content (small career advice quotes) on my website and I distribute across Twitter and FB I assume my site will get the full credit (from an SEO perspective) since that is where the content was originally uploaded. However, will I still get SEO credit for being active on social media, or will Google view it as duplicate content and evaluate that I am not active on social media? thank you

Social Signals CONFUSION
You know how sharing on social networking sites can act as social signal for ranking but I was wondering that what type of sharing on fb/google + ? does it has to be our site links all the time or any sharing other than our own site links matters too ? lets say if we are just discussing something on fb/google+ without our site link does that count too? social signal is sent only when we share our own sites link on social sites or through any kind of activity on our social fb/google+ page ? If you want to tell anything else connected with social signal please go ahead ..

Should links to your social media accounts be followed?
Hi There, Just wondering if you guys (and girls) think that your links to social media accounts be followed or nofollow? This includes sitewide header/footer links and other text links littered throughout the site. Includes Twitter, FB, Pinterest and G+ specifically (for my site anyway). Thanks in advance!

Social Bookmarking
Hello, In our SEO package that we use to sell our product to clients we list Social Bookmarking as one of the services we provide. What is the appropriate amount of social bookmarks that we should obtain monthly? How heavily do these weigh in your opinion? Thank you for your time
