New PDF Guide. On My site or linked by blogs?

Hi experts, I created a new worth guide about food. Its purpose it to improve backlink by adding website's URL on PDF's footer (spider crawls that one, is it true?). I want send my guide to trusted blogs so users can download new pdf guide on the web.
- Is it the best way to gain popularity and let my backlinks grow?
- I've seen that seomoz published is guide such as html pages.
Could it be the worth way for me?

Google has stated publicly that they do read pdf documents.
"...However, while we can process HTML, PDF, and Flash files, we have a more difficult time understanding (e.g. crawling and indexing) other rich media formats, such as Silverlight" (from Google Webmaster Tools Forum)
So, I think this strategy will definitely help your seo efforts. As with all things seo, there are a million ways to chase backlinks (here is a good list of back-link article to read) so I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, but I think your off to a really good start. Been offered a no follow link on a blog post ?. Is it worth it ?
Hi All, We are having a go at doing our own link building and just wanted some advice on a couple of questions I've found some industry related blog sites which could be good but alot of them only offer a no follow link ?. Is this worth it ? And if ,so what is the advantage of having a no follow link ? as it won't directly help with our DA etc ? I've also noticed some of these sites link to each other or recommend each other (i.e other blog sites) which may be some sort of link network ?.. I have created 5 model specific blog sites which deliver links to my core site.
I post about 500 words of unique relevant content weekly to each model blog site. Each week, seo smartlinks delivers keyword anchor text links to my core site with a 3% keyword density. I have been doing this for 3 months and my core site traffic is stagnant or slightly down. Is this a good practice since its relevant content, or am I writing for nothing? Also, am I in danger of over optimized anchor text?

Open Site Explorer and comparing links of competitors , then export the differences?
Hi, I'm totally new to this community so please forgive me if this question is a bit dumb.

A client of mine is trying to get better rankings for a specific keyword and if we check out the competition we notice that our site has way better and more unique content. The tools here at SEOmoz indicates that the competitor sites have more authority, and so probably more backlinks. With the Open Site Explorer I can quickly see what sites are linking to competitor sites.
And since we're in the same country and trying to rank for the same keywords we also are after the same backlinks. Now there are a few that my client is missing compared to the competitors.
So I would love to get a document that tell us what backlinks we are missing instead of
downloading many reports and do all the checks manually. Is this possible? Thank you,

Are my new resource sites worthless?
I have ended up with several hundred sites which I purchased off the seo company I use as they went belly up. I purchased them as I had spent a small fortune buying links for the years and I thought that if they went under all my links would be lost. When they transferred the sites into my accounts in go daddy the owners names changed to one owner! Therefore google either know that I own them or at the very least know that only a few people own them as I had four go daddy accounts. Previously they were all registered to different people. The registrar details have since been changed to various owners but I guess the damage is done. I have gone from pos3 pg1 to pos3 pg2. I ranked highly for lots of terms and they have all dropped. I don’t want to be using black hat techniques and my intention was to continue to build content on these sites with a view to adding links to other relevant sites in the future. Not all of them link to me and they do link to lots of other sites that the seo company did work for To be honest my only concern short term was not to loose the links. Now I feel the links are considered worthless by google and I don’t know if I should keep the sites or throw them away! I think all the sites need redesigning and updating and this is what I intended to do. However now that google have seen that they once were owned by one person have they become worthless?
