Redirecting my new Website URL to my old Website URL

Hi! OK, I am semi - new to SEO Moz but have been self-teaching for 3 years. However I am stuck.. I have been operating my e-commerce site from www.shopadornonline.com for the past 3 years. I just purchased www.shopadorn.com
Right now Shopadorn.com re-directs to www.shopadornonline.com because all my products and links go to shopadornonline.com/productblahblahblah
I guess I am stuck. Not sure what to tell my web designer to do? Do I give up on having shopadorn.com OR do I start re-directing customers and doing 301 re-directs?
I think from what i have read that it is bad to have traffic going to both shopadorn and shopadornonline as they compete for rankings?
Where should I start?

I can not understand the difficulty of the web designer. Also do not understand why he speaks in the DNS migration if there are two different domains.
Well, what he has to do is an exact copy of the site for the new domain in a new host plan.
After the copy being hosted in the new domain, it does a 301 redirecting the old domain to new. So all pages will redirect to the new, including the intern will be right and you will not lose rankings. -
Ok, SO I checked with my web designer about the transfer and showed her the strand. This was her response. Are we on the right page? Her response is below.
There is so much in that email, I have no idea what's going on there. So people do recommend switching it? We have to switch the domains before doing 301 redirects. Hopefully all we need to do is hostshopadornonline.com with a redirect rule that will change the URL to shopadorn.com an keep the rest of the URL. If you do redirects now nothing will happen because there is technically nothing atshopadorn.com to redirect to. Yet. We need to switc the domain in volusion then wait for the dns an ip to move over to the new domain, hopefully won't take long, then one simple redirect rule can do it all, no need to redirect every page individually. My only concern was the losing ranking part so if thats not a problem, hurray!

Hi Nicole. If you make a 301 on the server from one domain to another. And on the new site, the inside pages have the same address, you need not apply 301 at all pages.Example:
If someone clicks on a link or a search page:
http://www.shopadornonline.com/Accessories-s/29.htm
The 301 will automatically interpret:
http://www.shopadorn.com/Accessories-s/29.htm
What Alan said about www and without www, that your site is not doing the 301 for only an option on the home. If you type www.shopadorn.com or shopadorn.com, the url remains. So you are dividing the relevance of your homepage.
To stay safe in the migration, follow the guidelines that Google asks:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=83105&hl=en
There you can see more about the 301 redirect and also inform the webmaster tools on migration, so google transfers relevance.

That is the best plan. There are also some online tools that a person can use to confirm that redirects have been placed correctly and work in a search engine friendly way.

At the moment google sees your site as 4 seperate sites,
you need to 301 them to one
UYou ra pages will be found at your new domain as you said, but will search engines send your link juicve to the new page? only if you 301 them.

It sounds like one-time professional SEO help might be a good investment to be sure that everything is considered and executed perfectly. This could be reviewed with the current designer to be sure that everything goes well. Would cost a little money but well worth the spend.

I think that shopadorn.com is a much better domain. Congratulations.
I would consider redirecting your original domain to it. If you are in this for the long term that is what I would do.
Redirects generally work well if done carefully. Good luck!

Sorry for not completely understanding. So I WANT my website to be www.shopadorn.com , so do I have to do a 301 redirect for every product?
My concern is a lot of blogs link to a specific product on our site. So they would link to http://www.shopadornonline.com/Prairie-Underground-Long-Cloak-Hoodie-in-Natural-p/prairieu_longcloak_hoodie_nat.htm
Once I make the switch to shopadorn I believe my products will now be found at www.shopadorn.com/Prairie-Underground-Long-Cloak-Hoodie-in-Natural-p/prairieu_longcloak_hoodie_nat.htm
I'm just worried about being able to keep all of those links working.

Pick one of the other and 301 redirect it to the other, at the moment you can get to your web site with either without a 301 redirect.

Hi there! Thanks for your time 😉 I have a new cutsomer that bought his domain name via WIX and your know... WIX sucks huge time for SEO. Basically, we want to do SEO outside of WIX. But I am not sure HOW I should proceed. I think I have 2 options: OPTION 1- We transfer the domain name from WIX to a new hoster. I build the new Website on it and then use the SEO juice from the old domain name with redirect to push the new domain name. Like this, I won't lose any opportunities. BUT I will have to restart the SEO as new... Any tips or ideas for me? Maybe there is an OPTION 3 that I don't know about.

Two Different IP address pointing to my website, does it will effect my website from SEO point of view
Due to some reason my website https://xyz.com is not redirecting to my main website domain - https://www.xyz.com so our tech team suggested - we will have the non-www name on a different IP and we'll 301 redirect that to the https://www.xyz.com. if it works does it will effect our website from SEO point of view? please let me know.

New site causes massive drop off in ranking, old site restored how long to recover?
Hello, We launched and updated version of our site, mainly design changes and some functionality. 3 days after the launch we vanished from the rankings, previous page one results were now out of the top 100. We have identified some of the issues with the new site and chose to restore the old well ranking site. My question is how long might it take for the ranking to come back, if at all? The drop happened on the third day and the site was restored on the third day. We are now on day 6. Using GWT with have used fetch as Google and resubmitted the site map. When migrating website platforms but keeping the domain name how best do we add the new site to google webmaster tools? Best redirect practices?
We are moving from BigCommerce to Shopify but maintaining our domain name and need to make sure that all links redirect to their corresponding links. We understand the nature of 301s and are fine with that, but when it comes to adding the site to google webmaster tools, not losing link juice and the change of address tool we are kind of lost. Should we use URL parameters or plain URL's=
Hi, Me and the development team are having a heated discussion about one of the more important thing in life, i.e. URL structures on our site. Let's say we are creating a AirBNB clone, and we want to be found when people search for apartments new york. As we have both have houses and apartments in all cities in the U.S it would make sense for our url to at least include these, so clone.com/Appartments/New-York but the user are also able to filter on price and size. This isn't really relevant for google, and we all agree on clone.com/Apartments/New-York should be canonical for all apartment/New York searches. But how should the url look like for people having a price for max 300$ and 100 sqft? clone.com/Apartments/New-York?price=30&size=100 or (We are using Node.js so no problem) clone.com/Apartments/New-York/Price/30/Size/100 The developers hate url parameters with a vengeance, and think the last version is the preferable one and most user readable, and says that as long we use canonical on everything to clone.com/Apartments/New-York it won't matter for god old google. I think the url parameters are the way to go for two reasons. One is that google might by themselves figure out that the price parameter doesn't matter (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1235687?hl=en) and also it is possible in webmaster tools to actually tell google that you shouldn't worry about a parameter. We have agreed to disagree on this point, and let the wisdom of Moz decide what we ought to do. What do you all think?

Old URL showing up in SERPs 4 months after Re-direct
Hi guys, I did a full site redirect back in October to a new URL, SERPS eventually changed to the new URL and everything was fine. However recently i have started to see the old URL showing up? Anyone else seeing this?

Redirecting Canonical 301s and Magento Website
I have an issue with a client's website where it has 3700+ pages, but roughly half of them are duplicates. Thankfully, the only difference between the original and the duplictes is the "?print" at the end of each URL (I suppose this is Magento's way of making a printable page version of the same page. I don't know, I didn't build it.) My questions is, how can I get all the pages like this http://www.mycompany.com/blah.html?print to redirect to pages like this... http://www.mycompany.com/blah.html Also, do they NEED to be Canonical, or will a 301 redirect be sufficient. Also, after having done this, if anybody knows, is there a way I can turn that feature off in Magento, because we're expanding our product line, and I don't want to have to keep chasing after these "?print" pages after the fact.

Move to a new domain - How to get the redirects right?
Hi, I hope that someone with good htaccess knowledge can help. I am planning on moving my site to a new domain. I understand that I should make 301 redirects using htaccess for every URL. This is a big site so it will be impossible to not forget some of the thousands existing URLs. Now to the question: How do I make all the URLs that is not specified in htaccess to redirect to my new root? Thanks!
