YouTube Optimisation
-
Hey guys, what are in your opinion top ranking factors for YouTube optimisation?
-
Thank you for your great answer.
-
What about posting a video as a response to popular video? What are the pros and cons? Thanks
-
Thanks for your valuable input.
If you are to sort the factors - I guess titles would be at the top of your list, what would follow?
-
Do feel the being more consistent is a ranking factor or just a reliable way to get views which helps your rankings?
-
I have a ton of experience with YouTube and own a very popular channel. The title tags are of course key. Without your keywords in there you'll be hard pressed to rank. Most of your views are going to come from related videos within YouTube, not from Google search.
Other big key factors are going to be your subscribers to your channel, views on your videos, comments on those videos and number of likes/dislikes on those videos.
The more consistent you are with releasing your videos the better. We release 2-5 per week. People know we are consistent and they check back often. We interact with our community, mention them sometimes in our videos.
Of course, quality videos will create many of these things naturally for you. But I'd say the quantity of videos you have are the most important. As I said the bulk (50%) of your views will come from the related videos sections. So the more videos you have to show up in these areas, the more views you'll get. Entice people to subscribe to your channel. Sometimes we do giveaways. Ask questions in your videos and ask people to answer them in your comments.

I can't help but agree with Lisa, YouTube video optimisation also follows backlinks. The more websites that display your video the more hits you’re going to get and YouTube will class your video as being more relevant. The king of YouTube optimisation is making useful, informative and valuable videos and the traffic will come. I occasionally use videos for a small injection of traffic in times of a promotion.

I've experimented around with this quite a bit - below are some of my conclusions.
Title tags and descriptions are quite important. Use the "auto complete" suggestions to help assist with your keyword phrases and descriptions. Use all of the "characters" allowed. For example, you are allowed 5,000 characters for the description - use it!
Obviously, creating good quality videos with useful or entertaining information is critical. Even if you get your video to show up on the first page, people will still need to be compelled to watch it. Keep it short!
Give YouTube context in which your video should be viewed. If your video is about learning how to play the piano. Subscribe, like comment on other relevant videos. Doing so gives YouTube added insight about your video. Be active and authentic.
Good luck!

Getting indexed in Google Scholar
Hi all! We have a client who publishes scholarly research as a highly regarded non-profit. Their Publications aren't being indexed in Google Scholar 50% of the time and when they are, Google is pulling random stuff from a PDF vs. from the html page. Any advice on best practices is enormously appreciated

Why rich snippets have disappeared in Google search results ?
Hello, Few weeks ago, we have implemented a snippets strategy in order to increase our ranking for our blog posts. That was successful and our results were showing up in Google. But today, every single snippet has disappeared. We go back to a simple search result, without snippets for us or for our competitors. It seems that Google has delete rich snippet for specific keywords because for the generic keywords (for exemple "inbound marketing definition" in our case), there is still a snippet result. Do you know if Google has changed snippets parameters for keywords with low search volume ? Thank you !

Local Search Not Responding To Optimisation
Hi guys / gals. This is quite rare for me because I normally can put together a good strategy based on the best articles / content etc I have read. However this time I am in a bit of a situation where I dont seem to be able to get results for my Google Local Listings or Google Plus Places page. The listing is good, has a description, images, url, address etc. The weakness was a lack of citations, so I got the White Spark Tool and went to work. I have probably built about 20 citations - all pretty good sites, nothing dodgy. The issue is my listing has gone the wrong way i.e. lost positions. What am I doing wrong here. Is 20 citations just not enough? Is there another ranking factor I am neglecting? I have digested this : http://www.davidmihm.com/local-search-ranking-factors.shtml Please advise peeps 🙂

YouTube, Closed Captions and Search
Hey team, Just wondering if there's anyone out there that may have dabbled with YouTube closed captions and if having them has any effect at all on search results. My theory (unfounded) is that perhaps these files can be crawled (or viewed) by crawlers and/or given priority in search due to having indexible content which defines the content within the clip - which otherwise wouldn't have been known. Now, I have no evidence that this may be the case but wondering if anyone out there may have seen or read something about it. Seems like kind of a cool thing for SE's to do to help promote accessibility across teh web. Thanks guys.
