302 (Temporary Redirect) & HTTPS - how to improve for SEO?
-
Hello,
I have a crawl diagnostic warning that says 302 (temporary Redirect). My site is set up with HTTPS - is that the main reason I am getting this warning? I don't have a strong need for higher security SSL on my site, which is what I understand the main purpose of HTTPS to be so, to improve SEO, would I be better off getting rid of this and going with HTTP? Or would 301 redirects be a better option?
Thanks for your help!
Niall

Thank You, Darryl. Do you know if it is required by some online merchants to have SSL on all pages of a site, or just credit card info pages? Or do they not require it at all?

Hey Niall,
I'm going through the same issue at the moment. You are currently receiving the 302 warning because Rogerbot does not read secure pages. I am working with the understanding that the moz team is adding this ability to Rogerbot in the near future and SEOmoz will be able to track secure pages. Using https throughout all pages does add load time (not considerably) and we do know that any addition to load time can have an effect on your SEO ranking. I would encourage limiting the amount of secure pages as much as possible and prominently placing your SSL badge within the sidebar of your site in order to inform users that you do have a solid SSL.

There's some debate as to whether 302's are ok to use or not, largely depending on your specific situation. Without getting into technical details, if its possible to use http and 301 redirects I would recommend going that route because its simpler and more understood.

301 Redirects
Hi, Going to be redirecting our current domain to a new domain. Can anyone verify for me that I'm doing it correctly. I want to forward the entire domain plus individual urls. My current structure is below: Options +FollowSymLinks

Add to cart redirect using 302
I am getting a list of crawl errors in Moz because I am using a 302 redirect when people click on an item using the quickview add to cart eg:http://copyfaxes.com/cart/quickadd?partno=4061 will redirect them to the viewshoppingcart page. Is this wrong should this be a 301 redirect? There is no link juice to pass. Thanks

Rel=canonical "redirects" to double links
Our devs have set up rel=canonical on our website. First they used relative links href="/dir1/dir2/dir3" for the page http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 meaning that it will redirect to http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3, but no luck, the MOZ dashboard showed the tag value to be http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/dir1/dir2/dir3, then we have decided to rewrite the code, and now the canonical to http://wwwmysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 looks like href="http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/" but the tag on MOZ looks like http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3. So what is the problem? I really got a problem or MOZ does? The code on website looks exactly like href="http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/" rel="canonical" /> for the page http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/

We have just hired a new SEO guy and he wants to know what tools we have for link analysis. I would like for him to be able to use my SEOmoz tools, but i do not want him to have access to payment, billing, changes to the account, etc. Is this currently possible?

Domain redirection www or without
when i start campain for the first time it says " "Roger has detected a problem: We have detected that the domain www.xxxxxxtour.com and the domain xxxxxxtour.****.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here." How to resolve this and how can i redirect xxxxxxtour..com to www.xxxxxxtour.com ? Thank you

Seo Moz for Clients
One thing I recently pondered following the introduction of logos on reports bringing that level of personalisation for the customers is ... would it be somehow possible to take it a step further and have a login on your own personal site that could somehow enable clients to download and look at the information as and when they wanted. An almost mini sep moz for clients where customers login through your own site ?
