Can duplicate content issues be solved with a noindex robot metatag?
-
Hi all
I have a number of duplicate content issues arising from a recent crawl diagnostics report.
Would using a robots meta tag (like below) on the pages I don't necessarily mind not being indexed be an effective way to solve the problem?
Thanks for any / all replies

Thanx!

This is an old question... And the answer is yes In fact a page blocked in a robots.txt can be reindexed if that same page is linked in an external site. check this old webmaster help thread > http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=3747447eb512f886&hl=en That is why is always better use the meta robots no index to be really sure we don't want a page to be indexed

Yes it
would, but i would rather use the canonical tag, all pages have pagerank and
even weak pages help you site rank better. Google once released their page
rank, since then they have changed it many times, but from testing we know that
the main idea still holds true. Pages not in the index can not add to your
sites pagerank.Take a
look at this page it explains it very well. http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.htmlUse the calculator,
it is very intuitive -
Using a noindex meta tag is one way to resolve duplicate content issues. If you take this approach, it is most likely you wish to use only the "noindex" tag and not the "nofollow" tag. You don't want to prevent Google from following the links on the page, but instead simply stop the content from being viewed as duplicate.
If you wish to explicitly include the "follow" you can but it is unnecessary since it is the default setting.

Duplicate Content Indentification Tools
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good tool that can identify which elements on a page are duplicated content? I use Moz Analytics to determine which pages have the duplicated content on them, but it doesn't say which pieces of text or on-page elements are in fact considered to be duplicate. Thanks Moz Community in advance!

Duplicate Content only an Issue on a Huge Scale?
To what extent is duplicate content an issue? We have a support forum with some duplicate content because users ask the same questions. The Moz reports we receive highlights our duplicate content and page title for our support forum as a "big" issue. I'm unsure to what extent it harms our SEO, and making the support section non-crawable would impair our level of support. It would be nice to know for sure if we should be concerned about this, and if yes, how can we do it differently? Thanks, I appreciate you help. -Allan

Duplicate Content from on Competitor's site?
I've recently discovered large blocks of content on a competitors site that has been copy and pasted from a client's site. From what I know, this will only hurt the competitor and not my client since my guy was the original. Is this true? Is there any risk to my client? Should we take action? Dino

Does schema.org assist with duplicate content concerns
The issue of duplicate content has been well documented and there are lots of articles suggesting to noindex archive pages in WordPress powered sites. Schema.org allows us to mark-up our content, including marking a components URL. So my question simply, is no-indexing archive (category/tag) pages still relevant when considering duplicate content? These pages are in essence a list of articles, which can be marked as an article or blog posting, with the url of the main article and all the other cool stuff the scheme gives us. Surely Google et al are smart enough to recognise these article listings as gateways to the main content, therefore removing duplicate content concerns. Of course, whether or not doing this is a good idea will be subjective and based on individual circumstances - I'm just interested in whether or not the search engines can handle this appropriately.

Notonthehighstreet.co.uk - duplicate content? a reason to not sell via 3rd parties
A mixture of questions and discussion Question 1. can the following two pages be considered duplicate content http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/gardenbeet/product/deer-head-wall-art http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/1/1/219933-deer-head-wall-art-by-garden-beet.html both pages are indexed and both pages have different meta - aimed at different search combinations Discussion The search for 'deer head wall art gardenbeet' is generated by my PR company - we have done loads of print advertising for this item yet the sheer mass and volume of noths.com stops my store http://www.gardenbeet.com/garden-wall-art/58-deer-head.html from obtaining the number one position. All is fair in the business world I suppose BUT the original marketing machine for noths.com was claiming that they were assisting the small business owner. I paid them over £600 to join and now they compete with me head on. Stupid me I suppose. Let this be a key learning for those toying with the idea of investing in their own SEO or a 3rd party selling platform. Ho hum

Blog content on homepage - Dupe Content Penalty?
Hi All, I am working on a website which has a blog at domain.com/blog/ On the homepage they are currently looping the latest 5 blog posts in a 'Latest News' tab. Is this therefore classed as dupe content, and would this be penalized by Google? Should I recommend they use the excerpts instead of full articles and simply loop the excerpts on the homepage? The website is built on WordPress. Thanks, Woody
