Played Out ? about BLOG COMMENTING LINKS
-
Want to get some thoughts if some of you still see significant (or have ever) results from blog comment links. Heard them all about why it's worth it, people see you, click, etc etc etc...
Want anyone to share experience with this type of link building and if you guys think its worth it and has seo value.

Participate participate participate. If you are sincere and leave great comments it will help.

If by SEO purposes you are strictly referring to a bump in rankings, then I would say 100% yes, gaining followed links from well ranked blog domains will have a noticeable and direct effect on your page ranking. Of course, it will take time to build out these links, but yes I use this technique as a strategy and the benefits are noticeable.

We do comment on strongly targeted blogs for our industry even though they are no-follow and find even though they are no-follow for search engines they still account for about 20% of our direct traffic. If what you post is relevant and informative to the reader they may click and arrive directly at your site bypassing the whole search process.
It does not help your page rank but it can help conversion rate.
There is also a better chance a request for you to supply an article for their blog will be accepted if you have been a valuable contributor.
-
10-15% of all links can be no-follow, so yes, I believe they add some value. However, would spend more time getting no-follow links in Facebook and Twitter and relevant site instead of just random blog links.
I mostly do blog links (no-follow) for traffic.

Thanks for responding (Richard and Ryan). Question still remains regarding if blog commenting is time worth spending as a link building strategy.
We can all argue about if adds value, bring traffic, etc. I guess what I am asking is if you've used this as a link building strategy and if you've seen it being effective for SEO purposes.
-
I agree with Richard. There is definitely value in blog comment links. The question is how much value, and is it the value you seek?
Some blog links are followed, and others are no-follow. Clearly the followed links will offer more value, but the popularity of the blog and the particular page are factors.Blog comments also offer you the opportunity to provide the perfect anchor text.
If you reply on matt cutts' blog, while it may be a no-follow link it will be seen by a lot of people in the SEO world. If your comment is good then you will definitely see traffic from your link. If your page is good, then you will be able to retain some of those visitors.
So the real question is what type of results do you seek? Whether it is direct SEO benefits or indirect results, blog comments can offer good value.
-
a) most blog links are no-follow
b) most SEOs believe some no-follow are good (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
c) If it is relevant and your post speaks to the topic and adds value, then post it regardless of SEO value.

Dead/Broken links on old blogs
Hi We are currently trying to update our blog page on our website but quickly realized there are numerous dead or broken 404 links after clicking on anchor text from past blog posts. Our blog is set up in WordPress and we recently installed an SEO plug in with it. Some of these anchor texts don't actually need links and I want to unlink them, is there a simple way to do this on WordPress? Other anchor text I would like to "301 redirect" to another page. Can i do this on WordPress or is this something my SEO plugin should be able to fix? Answers are much appreciated! Thanks

Poor Blog and Website DA and links
Hi There We have a mature website and a mature blog with over 500 genuine blogs written on it over 4 years. In terms of actual "people" value it has to be high. We used to get 1000 visitors per day, we now get 300. We still have 850 subscribers so its of a certain size. However we have been hit by the Penguin/Panda updates and our DA has dropped to what everyone is telling us is too low for a site like this and we still have a google backlink problem, unyet we only have 190 external links that we think are all OK now. The problem we have is that we seem to have too many links from the blog to the main website with the same anchor text. This has occurred with a blogroll style link to the home page which appears on every post/page of the blog, also I think we have too many anchor same anchor text links to product pages (Motorola ES400) and category pages (Tablet PC). We're going through changing these now so that we have the right mix but the specific questions I wanted to ask were: 1. Will loads of links with the same anchor text affect us if the blog is counted as internal links. Its on the same "blog" sub-domain as the main website. 2. Will this affect the DA of both sites? 3. Is Wordpress capable of damaging us with all the extra pages it creates automatically. We've done nothing but genuine content posting here and i'm sure we can get it back but it kind of really demotivates you when 2/3rds of your traffic goes overnight. Many thanks for any help.

Link Relevance vs Link Authority ?
Hi guys, I have a quick question regarding some low quality links my site is getting. From the information in Open Site Explorer, the website Im talking about has a page authority of 16 while the domain authority is 11\. These are very low quality scores in my oppinion and Im thinking of removing them with Google Disavow Tool. The thing is that, although the domain is low quality, the links have relevance as they're in the same business sector as us. More exactly, the name of the domain is taxisavona and the company I work for is also a taxi company. So, now I`m thinking, should I disavow the link because of it's low scores or should I leave it because it is relevant to our business ? Thank you in advance! Best regards, Tiberiu Iavorenciuc

Is it a reciprocal Link ?
Hi, I found a great website and tought its content would be extremely interesting for our clients. I wrote about it on my blog (which has an URL with our website URL in it) , Facebook Page and even in Twitter. Meanwhile, I contacted them and offered to write an article about an interesting subject for them. They accepted and liked it so much that they decided to put 2 links for us on two of their pages. My questions are : Will this be a reciprocal link for Google? Did I make a mistake talking about them on my blog ? Did I «devaluate» the links they gave us?

Total Links vs Ext. Followed Links
Hi I'm fairly new to SEO and SEOMOZ. I've created a campaign for my own site and I've added 3 competitor sites. There are 1,385 total links to my site and a massive 49,450 links to one of my competitor's site. However under "Ext. Followed Links", there are 1,045 to my site and only 911 to the same competitor site. Am I correct that it is the "Ext. Followed Links" which are more important from an SEO point of view as the other links have the "no follow" attribute set? Or have I got this wrong? Thanks James

Links and keywords
A rather simple question, If i have a paragraph and have the words cat, dog and bird would it be a good idea to have them all linking to the same url? or is better to have them all going to different urls?

So I ran into a site that was not ranking 4 days ago and has over 2 million links to it on some keywords. My guess is this is a link bomb, but the issue is this is pushing one of my sites down. Does anyone know a good way to over come a bomb like this?
So I ran http://www.riogrande.com/ into this site not that long ago and wanted to see if any other SEO's have an opinion on it. I've seen a Google bomb before, but the amount of links going into this URL is insane. The thing is how does one over come a Google Bomb? Do you just wait to see what Google does or do you just hope to rank under that URL? I should also note that it appears that all the keywords to it are relevant to the sites content. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks
