An SEO companies position
-
One worrying thought following a meeting with a friend in the Poker industry was when he told me he heard some rival companies tried to spam other sites with paid listings a few years ago ?
Does this happen all the time ? Also could it happen in other industries ?
I was worried when hearing this news and then thought about an SEO companies position in all of this.
Could an SEO company be falsely blamed for this sort of behaviour ? Is it is better to cover these things in contracts with customers.
-
thats good to know thanks chaps I was getting worried for a moment back then.
-
I've never seen or heard of it actually happening, except one example I was given where it was attempted but ended up boosting the competitors rankings. It's highly unlikely to ever be an issue in my opinion.
-
thanks do you think it would be a wize move to place this in any contract or agreement with a client to avoid any problems in the future.
-
It does happen often, I've seen clients of mine suddenly hit with thousands of fake inbound links from garbage sites, Chinese sites, etc. I'm a relatively small fish so if it's happened to me I'm certain it happens on a much larger scale. I can't see how any one particular company could be singled out and blamed. There is the burden of proof, and without an actual credit card transaction or some other form of evidence how could anyone make that claim and have it stick? There are literally dozens of companies on the internet right now where, for $25, they will go out and spam the internet using software/bots to any link/text that you request. I'm sure there's no verification that you're the actual owner of the website when this is taking place. Since anyone can do it to anyone else, it's best to stay on top of what's going on for your clients but don't worry about it too much. Any time I have seen this happen I've always notified the client with a brief status update that something is going on. From the standpoint, mostly, of making sure that the owner of the company or an employee is doing something stupid without my knowledge.

Does redirected traffic still contribute to SEO?
My company recently rebranded with a new website (and comparatively lower authority). We've built a bunch of backlinks for our old website, which now redirect to the new one, and I was wondering if these still contribute to SEO? Is there a difference in the SEO effect of a direct link versus a redirected one?

I'm hiring a link building company - need help choosing
I asked this question before and got mixed feedback. Companies vs. Freelancers. Well I have a couple questions here. At a certain point it is definitely worth going in house, but what about the knowledge that we could gain from working with a big agency? Does that really add any value? Can I hire a freelancer and trust him as much as a big agency? or vice versa? Can I hire an agency and trust them as much as a freelancer? I have also been advised to make sure they offer competitive / site analysis as a first step, AND inform you of exactly how many links they plan to build per month, how much time they will dedicate to you and your account, expect turn around times, and light strategy details that they would likely use. Thanks for any help! TA

One page website SEO
Can a one page website rank well with the right SEO? I am building a new site so it is best to put the content related to two or three related items on one page or create seperate pages? Surely by creating just one page I can put all my link building efforts into improving the authority of that page as opposed to spreading my time over 3?

SEO value to Reddit backlinks?
Can someone point me to an authoritative article on the value of Reddit links? I'm trying to determine if it's something we want to put effort into doing on a regular basis. Are reddit links followed? It seems like some are and some are not.

Is publishing press releases for SEO thorugh newswire sites as effective post panda?
Does anyone have any knowledge/thoughts on how leading newswire sites have been effected by Google's latest updates, i.e. Panda? To date this has been a method (alongside others) I have sucessfully used to build links, but the results of late have not been as good for some clients and I'm beginning to question how effective this is - so I would be very interested to hear anyone else's experiences in this area?
