Site: on Google
-
Hello, people.
I have a quick question regarding search in Google.
I use search operator [site:url] to see indexing stauts of my site.
Today, I was checking indexing status and I found that Google shows different numbers of indexed pages depends on search setting.
1. At default setting (set as 10 search result shows)
> I get about 150 pages indexed by Google.
2. I set 100 results shows per page and tried again.
> I get about 52 pages indexed by Google.
Of course I used same page URL.
I really want to know which data is accurate. Please help people!!

The site: and other results are often just estimates that get refined when you put in additional information or change the parameters.
If you left your search displaying ten results and went to the next page, you'd likely have a change in the total number of results displayed. This will happen (or at least did) happen on Bing as well.
Google does give some more accurate data if you verify your site in Google Webmaster Tools. If you verify your site and submit a sitemap, you can see how many URLs are indexed out of how many you submitted for that map.
Another way to judge what's in the index is go to your analytics program, look at organic traffic from Google, and look at the URLs that are receiving organic traffic.

It does seem that the numbers change for different numbers of results, but as Russ mentioned, they are indications/estimates.
What I'd be more interested in is which pages Google Webmaster Tools knows about from your sitemap.xml (since these are the pages that you consider important). With a larger site you could also split your sitemaps into sections to give easier analysis of which sections are poorly indexed.

I'm not sure why Google's results would depend on how many results you're showing, but if either setting shows a URL, then it must be indexed, right?
Also of note, if you're interested in getting indexed in Bing too, I'd recommend setting up their webmaster tools as you can submit 10 URLs a day, and up to 50 URLs a month, to be indexed if Bing hasn't indexed your site yet.

Neither of the results are accurate as they are both representative of sampling and estimations made by Google, which is doing its best to find your site's pages out of the trillions of URLs they have indexed.
If you are just trying to get a general count of how many pages Google knows about, I would try this...
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:yoursite.com+inurl:yoursite.com&filter=0
just replace yoursite.com in the URL with your actual domain name (make sure you do it both times).

Site Migration of 4 sites into 1?
Hi Guys, I have a massive project involving a migration of 4 sites into 1. 4 sites include: **www.MainSite.com ** www.E-commerce.com www.Membership.com www.ResearchStudy.com Goal of this project is to have 1-4 regrouped into Main Site I will be following the best practice from this post https://moz.com/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos which has an awesome checklist. I am actually about to start Phase 3: URL redirect mapping. Because all of these sites have hundreds of duplicates, I figured I should first resolve the Main Site dup issues before creating the URL redirect mapping but what about the other domains (2,3,4) though? Should I first resolve the Dup issues on those ones as well or it is not necessary since they will be pointing into the Main Site new domain? I want to make sure I don't overwork the programming team and myself. Thanks For sharing your expertise and any tips on how should I move forward with this.

Merging Niche Site
I posted a question about this a while ago, but still haven't pulled the trigger. I have a main site (bobsclothing.com). I also have a EM niche site (i.e shirtsmall.com). It would be more efficient for me to merge these site, because: I would have to manage content, promos, etc. on a single site. In other words, I can focus efforts on 1 site. If I am writing content, I don't have to split the work. I don't have to worry about duplicate content. Right now, if I enter a product URL into copyscape, the other sites is returned for many products. What makes me apprehensive are: The niche site actually ranks for more keywords than the main site, although it has lower revenue. Slightly lower PA, and DA. Niche site ranks top 20 for a profitable keyword that has about 1300 exact match searches. If you include the longer tail versions of the keyword it would be more. If I merge these sites, and do proper 301s (product to product, category to category) how likely is it that main site will still rank for that keyword? Am I likely to end up with a site that has stronger DA? Am I better off keeping the niche site and just focusing content efforts on the few keywords that it can rank well for? I appreciate any advice. If someone has done this, please share your experience. TIA

Google Manual Penalty - Unnatural Links FROM My Site - Where?
Hi Mozzers, I've just received a manual penalty for one of my websites. The penalty is for 'unnatural links from my site which I find disturbing because I can't see that anything really wrong with it. The website is www.lighting-tips.co.uk - its a pretty new blog (only 6-7 posts) and whilst I've allowed guest posting I'm being very careful that the content is relevant and good quality. I'm only allowing 1 - 2 links and very few with proper anchor text so I'm wondering what has been done so wrong that I'm getting this manual penalty? Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance. Aaron

Will an inbound follow link on a site be devalued by an inbound affiliate link on the same site?
Hey guys, quick question I didn't find an answer to online. Scenario: 1. Site A links to Site B. It's a natural, regular, follow-link 2. Site A joins Site B's affiliate program, and adds an affiliate link Question: Does the first, regular follow link get devalued by the second affiliate link? Cheers!

It appears that Googlebot Mobile will look for mobile redirects from the desktop site, but still use the SEO from the desktop site.
Is the above statement correct? I've read that its better to have different SEO titles & descriptions for mobile sites as users search differently on mobile devices. I've also read it's good to link build, keep text content on mobile sites etc to get the mobile site to rank. If I choose to not have titles & descriptions on my mobile site will Google just rank our desktop version & then redirect a user on a mobile device to our mobile site or should I be adding in titles & descriptions into the mobile site? Thanks so much for any help!
