Latest OSE Update - Strange Numbers and Links
-
Hey everyone. I just checked our website in OSE with the latest update and noticed some strange numbers. The number of linking domains skyrocketed from 300 to 785 which definitely caught me off guard. Like all good SEOers I work hard to get links, but in a typical month I usually get between 40 and 50. To suddenly jump up by over 300 seems odd.
Digging deeper, I noticed that some of the incoming link domains could be considered less than trustworthy (pages filled with links), while others I couldn't find at all on the page in question. I also never ever asked for any of these links, nor did anyone on my team.
Should I be worried? I've heard of websites who purposely gain bad links to their competitors in order to penalize them. Is there an easy way to find out if this is going on? Could this possibly be a problem with OSE and just reporting non-existant links?
Thanks for your feedback!
Andrew
BTW, the website in question is www.gooverseas.com

Hey guys,
The issue you are seeing is due to the new OSE update. We have done some updating with our crawler and this index represents the newest version - sadly, with a few bugs...We are looking into this issue and hope to have it resolved as soon as possible!
The newest version of our crawler is built to be fresher, but it is also going much deeper into high MozRank pages. This bug has probably always existed, but has never been obvious since we weren't crawling as deep into domains where there are more download links. We are currently looking into fixing this so these won't be counted as inbound links.
I'm so sorry for the inconvenience - once we get this new version of the crawler dialed and smoothed out, it will be providing you guys a much fresher and higher quality index!
There is another thread regarding this topic, so check it out if you want more information on what is going on with this index.
Thanks,
Carin

Yeap, we noticed the same thing. A lot of these new links turned out to be weird files. I'm hoping this is just a minor glitch with the latest update of the linkscape, and in the months to come will start to die off.
Good luck!

Andrew, I'm noticing something very similar with one of our sites www.intervention-referral.com
I have an extra 320 linking root domains this month all coming from High Domain Authority sites within deep subfolders and subdomains. According to OSE they all use the same "intervention" anchor text and link to our homepage. However, all the URLs in question point to files that prompt downloads like pdfs, .ppt, .img. etc. I downloaded a few and could not find our text link anywhere. Here is a sample:
BTW - We are not outsourcing any seo services so I'm very confused as to what's going on.
Thanks,
Aaron Brownell

Problems with csv file from OSE
Hello Support, I have problems with the formatting of csv files from OSE in Excel. I got lines that only contain -- and these lines break up the data. It is possible to correct this manually but a bit annoying if you have 1500+ links generated in the file. I work a lot with csv files from other tools and programs and those give me no problems. Can you help me out please? Greetings Rob

Big drop in Moz Domain Authority in the latest mozscape update
hi, Before Moz were forced to roll back the moz scape I saw a drop in all 3 of my campaigns domain authority; 42 > 39
Moz Pro | | FDFPres
39 > 35
24 > 22 I am employing differing tactics on these campaigns, one of which i would say leans towards the less white (the one in the middle of those stats). The other 2 however are all clean. So, did anyone else see a drop in DA before moz retracted the figures? was there an issue with the latest moz update? Thanks in advance.0 -
Why do the competitive link analysis numbers not match the domain analysis?
There is only one area that our competitor out ranks us and that is in the total links on the root domain. But when i go to competitive link analysis we have more links then they do. Any ideas?

MozRank per Link: Valuable or Worthless?
Since the MozRank and MozTrust metrics are on a logarithmic scale, I'm wondering if it's still valuable to get a general idea of the quality of a site's link profile by calculating: MozRank / Total Links MozTrust / Total Links Would this be useful, or is it always going to be higher for sites with lower MozRank & MozTrust since it's "easier" to achieve the lower values?

Last Linkscape Update?
Has anyone seen their competitive link analysis update in the last 2 weeks? My campaign summary says the last linkscape update was on the 21st Dec but the data is still showing from November. Looking in the full analysis section especially the timeline confirms that it is only going up to November. OSE also seems to show the old data.

Forcing an update (revisited)
Really quite disappointed with the response to this thread: http://www.seomoz.org/q/possible-to-force-the-seomoz-ranking-report-to-update Three of us expressed an interest in this but the response was for (only) the original poster to create a ticket and the question was closed to any further discussion. Might I request that SEOMoz folks read the thread? There is a general question and three of us have requested some feedback. It is very clear that more than one person is interested in the answer Just asking one of those individuals to open a ticket and get a response for himself doesn't seem very customer-centric (well, beyond that first customer). I'd really appreciate an open and public discussion as to whether SEOMoz can support updates more than once a week and, if not now, whether it intends to in the future. Thanks. Mark
