Text-indent=-9999em = Bad SEO ?
-
Since we weren't the ones who designed above mentioned website there is something we really don't understand. They have replaced images with text using css as below examples.
CSS --------->
div#logo { background: #fff url(../images/logo.gif) no-repeat 20px 0px; margin-bottom: 30px; } div#logo a { height: 148px; text-indent: -1000em; display: block; }
HTML ----------- >

What my question is out of 100 scale how much does this affect SEO ? What if we keep H1 tags black without putting any text between tags ?

I understand your situation and am sympathetic. I am simply trying to offer you the information you are seeking.
If you are performing SEO work on a site, then it is your role to educate the owner / developer on the risks associated with the site in it's present condition and to make recommendations.
I am in the fortunate position where I can turn down a client. I would turn away a client who was unwilling or unable to make changes which involved black hat methods. I would not want my name associated with such a site, nor the headaches that are involved with such sites.
If you choose to continue working with the site, I would strongly recommend a written document where you advised the client of these issues along with the consequences and they have acknowledged (i.e. signed) the document.
As far as making other changes, you are still breaking the rules but are fixing some of the violations. The changes may or may not help you avoid a penalty.

This site wasn't designed by me . So I cannot change any code at the moment . This site uses alot of hidden texts . such as navigation , company logo etc . What If I just keep the image without putting any text between those tags . That why search engines don't find any text in HTML at least.

When any crawler visits your site, they can see all of your web code. They definitely can see your CSS and will de-index a site for this form of manipulation.
Blocking your CSS files would yield the same result. You are required to present the same code to search engines that you do for users.
It's called Black Hat SEO. The company you are trying to cheat is the world's #1 search company with 30+ billion in revenue last year. There are a million other websites trying to get away with cheating. This has all been tried before.
Even if you devised a brilliant new method of cheating the system, it is only a matter of time until you are caught and your site is de-indexed. You would lose 100% of traffic along with any revenue from organic search.

Well How Can I google find that Im hiding any text between tags unless one of my competitors report them ?
What If I block Stylesheet using robots.txt ?
-
If you hide any H1 tags or content on your site, you will surely be caught and penalized. It's just a question of time.
How costly will the penalty be? Log into Google WMT and see what % of your site's traffic comes from organic search. No imagine that being 0% for a few weeks that is will take Google to review your reconsideration request. Now weigh the relatively minor benefit this manipulation offers your site.

SEO page descriptions on mobile - how to hide while preserving the juice for SEO?
Hi everybody, On our pages we have crafted good text paragraphs for SEO purposes. On desktop everything is fine but on mobile the paragraph of text pushes the main content really low on the page. Is there a way of hiding the text while preserving the SEO juices and not getting penalised by Google for spamming techniques? I'd appreciate any recommendations on how to deal with this. Thanks very much!

How have your SEO Audits evolved over time?
Hi guys, SEO Audits used to be so focused on the basics like title tags, meta descriptions etc. but now more than ever, SEO is a discipline which encompasses everything from content marketing to UX design. Would be great to hear from everyone how their audit templates have evolved over time to keep up with the latest updates in SEO and algorithm changes! Which new sections have you added and which have you removed?! Cheers, Daniel

SEO Consult?
Is there anyone here that I can pay to give me a deep analysis of my website and my competitors with recommendation on what to do? I am a small business and I cannot afford expensive monthly SEO fees. I can probably afford a one time consult fee, then I can do the work myself. Or maybe I can pay a-la cart for some of the fixes. I understand this may not be something SEOs want to do since they make their money off doing the work and may not want to share trade secrets. I just thought I would throw that question out there. I've been working on trying to SEO my site for a year now... I was improving and happy with my progress until October and lost 30 positions over my tracked keywords. I have no idea why. I'm kind of at my wits end! 😞

Does Google read bullet point lists are text? WordPress SEO by Yoast says different...
I am using the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast. They have a site analysis, once you enter a keyword for optimize it for. Now I found that this plugin doesn't count in the text from bullet point (or numbered lists) as text. Now that made me curios...Does Google see bullet points text as text or not?

Does having a ? on the end of your URL affect your SEO?
I have some redirects that were done with at "?" at the end of the URL to include google coding (i.e. you click on an adwords link and the google coding follows the redirected link). When there is not coding to follow the link just appears as "filename.html?". Will that affect us negatively SEO-wise? Thank you.

Right SEO strategy for Wordpress
Hello all, I am working on my SEO strategy for a WordPress site. I am trying to cover all my keywords in: 1.a) Page title trying to have a length <70 1.b) Page url trying to have a length<115 My question is: should i try to focus all my keywords in both name and url page path? or only in the Page title as the SEOMOZ's guide suggest? I would go for a mix strategy with my keywords in both page title and url path name, but I do not know if the search engines PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE PAGE TITLE, so mixing 1.a) and 1.b) would mean I am loosing keywords. I am using the WordPress All in ONE SEO Plugin. Do you recommend me this or any other plugin? This plugin has 3 input fields: a) Title tag b) Description tag c) Keywords My questions here are: a) If these tags replace the standard settings of WP as described in point 1.a) b) If the description and title tags are META TAGS that are not taken into account in terms of SEO but in terms of customer description of the contento of the page. c) Where are the keywords listed inserted in the page? In H1, H2, H3 and H4 tags? My feeling after reading the SEOMOZ guide is that this plugin is not providing any added value for SEO any more??' Thank you very much, Best regards, Antonio Alcocer

# element above Menu - Is there any SEO Value to it
Is there any Value to having the H1 element above the MENU in a Typical Application ? My intention is to tell the "Bot" that the H1 element is more important than the Menu Items . Are there any examples of such sites . The closest that I have seen is (NOT MY SITES) http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/ and http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/cheap-flights/from-dallas-texas/1531/?airport_code=dfw&depsub=1&c2calert=0&deal_alert=0&from_hp=true Here they (second link) they have H1 above the Bread Crumb ( they dont have any menu though).

SEO Strategy for Microsite
I am working on a project to build a microsite of sorts that will represent a joint program between two large organizations with established web presences and strong domains. Each of the organizations has dedicated sections on their sites speaking to the program, but the leadership has decided the joint program deserves it's own site with dedicated content. The two larger sites perform very well for SEO, and I don't necessarily want to jeopordize thir rankings by delivering content that competes directly with them. So I am doing some keyword research to find some opportunities that will alllow me to use the new site to target keywords not yet being captialized by the larger sites. My grand scheme is to have the three sites targeting the broadest array of keywords possible, thus maximizing exposure and avoiding competition. Here is the rub: the content between the three sites will be different but very similar, and there will be plenty of cross linking, especially from the existing sites to the new site, as we grow the brand of the joint program. I'm curious to here some expert opinions on what the puitfalls of the strategy are and what are some of the things I can do to avoid falling in the black hat category - I recognize that proliferating sites around a single topic and cross linking them is black hat. The organizations simply want to build a brand around a joint program and we are striggling to do that without a dedicated website.
