Any Good Ideas on Promoting a Contest?
-
Does anyone have any good advice on how to promote a contest? Has anyone hosted a contest and had a lot of good luck that could offer some pointers on how to get the word out? The contest consists of people uploading a 60 second or less WildBlue commercial video that they have created. The video with the most votes will win the competition, and we are giving the winner a $50 cash prize. So far I have been Tweeting about it, and I have sent out a press release. Any other advice will be appreciated. The link to the contest page is http://www.mybluedish.com/lp/contest/ if you want to take a look at it. Thank you in advance.

This seems like a contest your customers might be interested in. Do you have an email list? Perhaps send it out there.
I have never run a contest where someone has to create a video, but I have had success with free contest listing sites. Do a quick google search and you will find a few where you can list your contest. Also, don't be afraid to ask your followers to RT your Tweets. I find when I ask followers are happy to oblige.
Best of luck with the contest!

I know this probably isn't what you're looking for by any means, but I think it's going to be hard to really promote the contest given how small the cash prize is. It's just not exciting enough to really generate any sort of buzz, and certainly no press whatsoever. If you had a few thousand dollars in your budget and thought up some unique prizes for the top 3 winners, it would be much more marketable.
But I understand, budget is always an issue. I would try tweeting bloggers and influencers in your niche or in related industries asking if they can RT the details. Now is the time to call in any favors you have from personal connections or people you know in the industry.
You might try reaching out to niche amateur filmmaking communities, although I suspect you would have much better luck with a bigger prize. Though that's not really the audience you want to reach with this contest, it could help get you some better quality submissions, for content's sake.

I haven't personally hosted a contest but some of the ones I have seen have mainly used Facebook to promote it. This allowed fans to view the videos others have created and comment on them. Potential entrants can then see what others have done and get ideas. It also creates more followers of the contest as they come back to see the new videos. It is only one idea I have seen work in the past but I hope it helps.

How to get more keyword ideas
I am trying to get more keyword ideas for one of my project. For example the seed keyword is computer virus and the results which i get is keywords related to the phrase computer virus such as virus in computer , virus threats but actually i am trying to get search details on actual threat names or types of viruses and i expect output such as malware, trojan etc.. ( Currently using ad words keyword planner to fetch keyword data ) Is there any way to achieve this ? Even if i use "types of computer viruses" as seed keyword i am not getting the types of viruses people searching for instead i get keywords ideas such as computer viruses, computer threats etc... ? Can somebody suggest a solution ?

23k Links from one doman pointing to a single page, good or bad?
Hey all, So I found a domain that GWT tells me has 23k links pointing to a landing page. I found that the link is part of their global nav as a text ad and that's why it's probably registering so many links. The site has a DA of 56, is this a bad thing? Could it be hurting the rest of my site's ability to rank? Thanks, Roman

Significantly reducing number of pages (and overall content) on new site - is it a bad idea?
Hi Mozzers - I am looking at new site (not launched yet) - it contains significantly fewer pages than the previous site - 35 pages rather than 107 before - content on the remaining pages is plentiful but I am worried about the sudden loss of a significant "chunk" of the website - significantly cutting the size of a website must surely increase the risks of post-migration performance problems? Further info - the site has run an SEO contract with a large SEO firm for several years. They don't appear to have done anything beyond tinkering with homepage content - all the header and description tags are the same across the current website. 90% of site traffic currently arrives on the homepage. Content quality/volume isn't bad across most of the current site. Thanks in advance for your input!

Is there a way to show random blocks of text to users without it affecting SEO? Cloaking for good?
My client has a pretty creative idea for his web copy. In the body of his page there will be a big block of text that contains random industry related terms but within that he will bold and colorize certain words that create a coherent sentence. Something to the effect of "cut through the noise with a marketing team that gets results". Get it? So if you were to read the paragraph word-for-word it would make no sense at all. It's basically a bunch of random words. He's worried this will affect his SEO and appear to be keyword stuffing to Google. My question is: Is there a way to block certain text on a webpage from search engines but show them to users? I guess it would be the opposite of cloaking? But it's still cloaking...isn't it? In the end we'll probably just make the block of text an image instead but I was just wondering if anyone has any creative solutions. Thanks!

Purchased new site with good SERP ranks, do I operate and build links or redirect the TLD?
I recently purchased a blog within my product category - it has many first page rankings for difficult keywords within my niche. I am wondering if it makes more sense for for me to continue to operate this blog and build links to my site and blog (blog is in wordpress) or to export the XML feed and upload the content to my blog (new site also in wordpress), at which point I would do a 301 at the Top-Level domain. Any thoughts, ideas, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a .com site but I am only ranking good on google for Canada and not the USA.
We are located in Canada but sell our products world wide. We are ranking ok on google.ca but are not in the top 50 on google.com. Is it due to my ip address? Is there any tips that you can give me to help up my rating for google.com. Any info you can provide me with will be amazing. Thanks,

Is publishing a large quantity of content at once a bad idea?
If you plan on doubling the size of your site with original, unique content, is it better to publish it all at once or over a period of time? Is there any penalty for publishing it all at once?
