WP description plugin
-
Can anyone recommend a WP plugin which creates a description from the individual blog post it's describing?
-
Thanks Jeff
I've been resisting the Yoast solution for the same point you raised, but it does seem to be the best solution. Will download it into a test blog and try it out.
Thanks for you help

My vote's for headspace2.
I like that I can add js and css on the fly to specific pages with it easily.
-
Sure. The one that's getting the most attention right now is by Joost de Valk: http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/ It does a lot of SEO stuff and might be overkill. Another that creates a Title and Description field on the WP backend is HeadSpace2: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/headspace2/

Ok I'll take your advice. Could you recommend a good plugin to allow for easy addition of a description?
-
I wouldn't recommend automatically generating the meta description because it won't necessarily be the best summary to display in the serps. Writing something specific for users will have a better chance of click throughs.
-
I want it to do the former - take the first 165 chars from the post!
-
What do you mean? Just a character limiter that takes the first 165 characters of the post and adds it a meta description? Or one that uses the excerpt? Or something else?
All in One SEO does auto descriptions, not sure how they're generated though - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Site's meta description is not being shown in Google Search results. Instead our privacy policy is getting indexed.
We re-launched our new site and put in the re-directs. Our site is https://www.fico.com/en. When I search for "fico" in Google. I see the privacy policy getting indexed as meta descriptions instead of our actual meta description. I have edited the meta description, requested Google to re-index our site. Not sure what to do next? Thanks for your advise.

Is using part of a meta description already on your site for another product considered duplicate?
I'm writing meta descriptions for this site, trying to keep them different, however, for two product types, I want to add the same info I added in the other likeminded product's meta descriptions. Is this ok as long as it's not the whole sentence or am I really to rewrite the same info another way, which is hard for " quick shipping available for x amount of colors ". Any Advice?

Can't get Google to Index .pdf in wp-content folder
We created an indepth case study/survey for a legal client and can't get Google to crawl the PDF which is hosted on Wordpress in the wp-content folder. It is linked to heavily from nearly all pages of the site by a global sidebar. Am I missing something obvious as to why Google won't crawl this PDF? We can't get much value from it unless it gets indexed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Here is the PDF itself:

Templates for Meta Description, Good or Bad?
Hello, We have a website where users can browse photos of different categories. For each photo we are using a meta description template such as: Are you looking for a nice and cool photo? [Photo name] is the photo which might be of interest to you. And in the keywords tags we are using: [Photo name] photos, [Photo name] free photos, [Photo name] best photos. I'm wondering, is this any safe method? it's very difficult to write a manual description when you have 3,000+ photos in the database. Thanks!

Are descriptions in Social Media Accounts seen as Duplicate Content bt SE?
Hello, I was wondering: If someone (like me) has same or very similar description for all social accounts (eg google plus, linkedin, etc also considering less famous or more specific accounts) profiles, will it be considered as duplicate content by search engines? And what if the content and description will be similar also to the one in the website? Will this be duplicate for the website? Thank you!

Redirection Plugin and Regular Expressions
I am using Wordpress and the Redirection plugin. I have recently launched a new site and while it was in development, a lot of broken pages were created and indexed. These are terminating in 404s. I am looking to redirect all traffic from: /replay/postname/ to the homepage. When I use this regular expression: Source: /replay/* Target: / it removes the /replay/ but leaves the postname. Any idea how I could redirect all traffic inside of /replay/ to the homepage? Thanks a bunch, Josh

Optimum title and description meta tag length
Hi all, I have read that a title tag and description tag length of 69 and 156 characters respectively, should be used as this is all that Google will show in the search results, but that search engine robots will read longer titles and descriptions and additional characters will have an effect on ranking algorithms. However, is there any SEO benefit in making title and description tags longer to include more keywords to aid ranking, even though the latter part won't be visible in the results. I have read elsewhere on this forum that there may be concerns with regards to keyword dilution, but what about keyword reinforcement, i.e. by a repetition of the main keyword at the end of the title/description (I mean in a readable manner here, not 'stuffed')? Thanks in advance, Gareth

How do I put something below description in the SERPs of Google?
How do I put something below description, the search box within the website, and map in SERPs of Google? For example, when I enter ‘mit’ as the keyword in Google, the description of MIT is shown more. Many thanks in advance.
