Website Grader Report - Permanent Redirect Not Found
-
Have you ever checked HubSpot's website grader at www.websitegrader.com? I usually notice that the tool gives an error namely "Permanent Redirect Not Found" with below explanation:
"Search engines may think www.example.com and example.com are two different sites. You should set up a permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect") between these sites. Once you do that, you will get full search engine credit for your work on these sites. :(Website Grader)
Can we trust this tool?

Thanks Ryan, appreciated!
-
You are certainly welcome to set your preferred domain in Google WMT but it is not required to do such if you have your permanent redirection properly in place.
-
Definitely makes sense Ryan. Thank you so much!
One more question; there is settings under Google Webmaster Tools, where you can set www.example.com or example.com. After we have done permanent (301) redirection to one of the versions, we should adjust settings in Google Webmaster Tools as well, right?

I can definitely confirm this issue has a negative impact on SEO.
Let's use "mysite.com" as the root site. In this example "www.mysite.com" is a sub-domain. It's statistics such as Domain Authority are gathered independently of the "mysite.com" root domain.
If you want to see an example, try the wordpress.com site. You can create your own subdomain (subject to availability) on the wordpress.com domain. Try making Stradiji.wordpress.com. You will notice your DA starts off at zero. It is a different subdomain. In this same manner, the "www." and root domain are different sites.
I hope this makes sense.

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the answer. My question was not so clear; I wonder how can we verify whether this has a negative SEO effect where there are hundreds of thousands websites in similar situation?
-
It is very easy to confirm whether the tool is working correctly or not.
Visit the site in question, then add or remove the "www." portion of the URL. A properly redirected site should adjust and only appear using a common URL. For example, the SEOmoz site uses the www subdomain. Try removing the "www." prefix and you will see the redirect happen where the "www." subdomain is automatically re-added. That is the correct behavior. If that change is not happening on the site in question, it should be fixed.

Setting Up A Website For Redirects
I've got an old defunct domain with a lot of backlinks to individual pages. I'd like to use these backlinks for link juice by redirecting them to individual pages on the new domain (both sites belong to the same company). What is the best way to set this up? I presume I need some kind of hosting & site, even if it's just a default Wordpress install, which I can then use to set up the redirects? Would it be best done using .htaccess file for 301 redirects or some other way?

Redirect Question
We have a client that just did a redesign and development and the new design didn't really match their current structure. They said they didn't want to worry about matching site structure and never put any effort into SEO. Here is the situation: They had a blog located on a subdomain such as blog.domain.com - now there blog is located like domain.com/blog They want to create redirects for all the old the blog urls that used to be on the subdomain and not point to the domain.com/blog/post-name What is the best way of doing that - Through .htaccess?

404 : UserPreemptionError:
http://www.iainmoran.com/comments/feed/ This is a WordPress site and I've no idea what the best course of action to take. I've done some searching on Google and a couple of sites suggest removing that url from within the robots.txt file. I'm using the Yoast Plugin which apparently creates a robots.txt file, but I can't see any way to edit it. Is there another solution for resolving the 404 error? Many thanks, Iain.0 -
Bug in Competitor Rankings Report?
I am looking at the report called: Rankings Report for [Competitor XXX] For all keywords in the report, the rankings on the main page say "Not in Top 50"... however when I drill down I can see that this is not true... there is a graph with valid rankings which were gathered as recently as March 20, 2013 (2 days ago) is this a known bug? 302 Redirect from HTTP to HTTPS
Hi Guys One of our client's website is having 586 linking unique domains to http://www.XYZ.com.au (to home page only). They have migrated their site to https://www.XYZ.com.au so all of their site pages are on HTTPS now instead of HTTP. The HTTP version of the home page is 302 redirected to HTTPS therefore we think they are not getting all the link juice of 586 linking domains and would like to recommend to change their 302 to 301. However we have not seen any ranking drop due to this migration and redirect in place. The new HTTPS site/redirect is live from last 2 months now. So not sure its worth recommending 301 or not? Does this mean Google is picking up this 302 redirect as normal and attributing all link value to HTTPS version? Please can anyone share their thoughts on recent Google interpretation of 302 from HTTP to HTTPS? Thanks

How to write 301 redirects in WordPress
I've successfully migrated new site to new domain (www.cmsearchmarketing.com) But I cannot get 301 redirects for pages and blog posts to redirect from the old domain (www.creativemindsearchmarketing.com). And it's my understanding I need to do a 301 for each page to maintain SEO. Here's what I've tried: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^p=975$RewriteRule ^index.php$ http://www.cmsearchmarketing.com/top-5-questions-to-ask-an-seo-firm-before-signing-up/? Maybe some other issues are in the way: --Old site is WP-Remix theme no longer supported, and latest WP version is 2.9.1 -- Old domain (www.creativemindsearchmarketing.com) is the primary account on BlueHost …and the new domain (www.cmsearchmarketing.com) is an addon, so the new domain's directory is within root of old domain. -- in root domain of old site there are other "handler files" that also have base file rewrites, if this is an issue: name of this file in root directory is:
