    I have two clients, both of which have a single website, with multiple top-level domains, many of which represent "subpages". For example, when you navigate to the home page, the URL is "[CompanyName].com". However, when you navigate to a subpage, the browser appears to remain at the same website, but in actuality (as you can tell from the URL bar) you've navigated to "SubPage.com". Client A is an insurance company that has multiple branded insurance products. Each product is independent of the other (it's unlikely that a single client would purchase multiple insurance products from different brands) and have their own brand. Thusly, each section of the site that represents a different brand has its own top-level domain. The website design/structure remains the same, with some light color changes and image swaps. Client B is a consultant and offers various services. None of these services are "branded" (a single client would hire the consultant for a wide range of available services). Each subpage on the site represents a different service and has its own top-level domain. Here are my questions: Are either Client A or B breaking guidelines set forth by major search engines? Are either Client A or B hurting their optimization with this trickery? My inclination is that Client A is doing it right, but Client B is not. Your insights would be appreciated!

I have noticed that they have been getting credit for their own inbound links within their site. Is there something I am doing wrong as inbound links on my site aren't getting found?     So I realize it's a bit of a short notice, but April 24 (next Tuesday), I will be hosting a Joomla users meetup in conjunction with Blogsvertise.  The first get together is going to be more of a social meetup, with not much specifically planned.  Topics that will be discussed: Joomla - everything from basics to advanced questions SEO - open discussion, Q+A,  networking Bloggers - Bloggers will be there, and can connect with other bloggers/companies. Anything else web related as well. The event is going to be hosted at the Blogsvertise office in East Brunswick NJ. There is going to be some free pizza and snacks, and should be a good networking event.  In the future we aim to get more organized, and have guest speakers and presentations, but for the first one we want to gauge people's interest, and see what they would want to hear presentations on.     I know the recent Google update devalued a lot of low quality blogs, but i'm having a hard time understanding what can be considered low quality? My site is www.247VirtualAssistant.com and it wa sitting in the top 3 for all my keywords(virtual assistant, virtual assistants etc etc). Last month everything tanked and now on the 2nd and 3rd page for my keywords. I'm thinking this is because of a lot of my links got devalued but with my limited SEO knowledge, i'm having a hard time identifiyng these. Please help!

    I arrived at work this morning to find my weekly SEOmoz ranking report for a main competitor waiting in my inbox. 90% of the their rankings have tanked in the last day or so by an average of 3 pages - most down from page 1 or 2 where they had been sitting pretty for ages. I'm not in a state of (total) euphoria about this because a) you should be humble enough not to gloat at your enemy's demise, and b) I need to find out what they did wrong so that I don't make the same mistake, too. **What is your first suggested port of call to determine where my (vanquished) foe has gone wrong? How much can I find out? ** I do know one thing - with OSE I can see they've used dodgy blogging services but this, to my mind, would have been jumped upon by Google last year. No? Thanks guys

The company is undergoing an overhaul of their design and want a new site to match this. They have asked how changing the site design will affect their rankings.     I have seen the latest news about Google penalizing blog networks and as a newbie starting out am wondering if my multi-site plans would constitute as a blog network. My question is, is having a couple of external blogs on keyword rich domains pointing back at my primary domain name considered to be a blog network of the kind that Google is penalizing?

    Hi all Had a look for info on this one but couldn't find much. I know these days that if you have a decent domain good will often automatically put site links on for your home if someone searches for your company name, however has anyone seen these links appear for sub pages? For example, lets say I had a .com domain with /en /fr /de sub folders, each seoed for their location. If I were to then have domain.com/en/ as no1 in Google for my company in the UK would I be able to get site links under this or does it only work on the 'proper' homepage domain.com/ A client of mine wants to reorganise their website so they have different location sections ranking in different markets but they also want to keep having sitewide links as they like the look of it Thanks Carl

    I have been trying to test my site through the on page report card using our primary keyword phrase, however, I keep getting the following error message: We were unable to grade that page. The page did not load. Got a 410 response code from server If I try the same search and keyword phrase on other sites, it does work. Am I doing something wrong?

    I am trying to help out a site with its Search Engine Optimization and I am experiencing something I can not explain. For the last 2 months I have tried to build some inlinks to the site.  Since then, I have been receiving a lot of comment spam, so I know that my links are being followed, at least by bots. The mystery is that when I look at this site through SEOmoz or any other backlink checker, the result is always 0 linking Root Domains, 0 Total Links. When I do a Google search with the domain I get 364 hits of sites that mention this domain, so the links are out there. What am I doing wrong?     I am new to this website. Tried to run a campain and got a warning that website.com resolves to www.website.com which hinders SERP by competing for Keyword indexing!. (website is my domain name) Would appreciate help with this. Thanks. S.H. PS: here is the exact wording of error : We have detected that the domain www.yfvaccine.com and the domain yfvaccine.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here.

    As a novice I created my main site, (waspkilluk.co.uk) and it was geo-targeted for my local City (Bristol). As I got better I created sub-domains(nailsea.waspkilluk.co.uk) for the smaller towns. Now I am suffering because I need to create a sub-domain for BristoI, allowing the main site to be free from geo-targeting and thus rank more cleanly for specific topics e.g flea control, wasp control etc, etc. My question is simply this - How do I avoid or limit damaging my existing rankings when I swap the site content over to the sub-domain and remove the key word Bristol from the root domains pages. Not a short question, but any thoughts would be lovely to hear.

    The issue I am having is an overwhelmingly large number of pages on cafecartel.com show that they have duplicate page content. But when I check the errors on SEOmoz it shows that the duplicate content is from www.cafecartel.com not cafecartel.com. So first of all, does this mean that there are two sites? and is this a problem I can fix easily? (i.e. redirecting the URL and deleting the extra pages) Is this going to make all other SEO useless due to the fact that it shows that nearly every page has duplicate page content? Or am I just completely reading the data wrong?

    I have read many posts on this. However, the one thing I find challenging is getting an expert to give me a social mention. In many cases they have shared something similar in the past, and in many cases they are too busy. IMO building relationships via forums is the easiest way to find experts who will mention my site. I can engage them in a thread, and eventually take it to a Personal Messages. After building a relationship I can ask for a link or a social mention or to guest post or something. I have attempted contacting many experts via Blogs, E-mail, Facebook, Google + etc. for many different sites, IMExperince most “Experts” (people with large followings) will not give a noob (new site w/no rankings or new user w/no following) the time of day, nor a social mention. I have read many posts on engaging experts: tag them; send them flowers; like every post; make great comments. My result… bruised lips (from kissing behinds). I work with an SEO company, and every new site we work on seems to require a unique strategy for ranking. When we work on building relationships in fields we know nothing about, the outcome is weak. Unless we use forums. What are some strategies that work for you? what approach do you take when you have to build a relationship with someone you cant give value to?

    I'm trying to figure out a process to find specific youtube embed videos using Google search.  But a lot of sites are not being returned.  For example, I know that the following video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MnylRaQC3w) is linked to and embedded on http://gizmodo.com/5898438/watch-how-fender-builds-its-iconic-stratocasters However, I can't figure out a set of search terms to find that in Google.  Searching for (1MnylRaQC3w  Gizmodo) doesn't return the right page in the results. I'd like to figure this out so I could see everywhere a certain youtube video has been embedded.

    We are migrating a very large site to a new CMS and I'm trying to determine the best way to handle all the links (~15k) in our html sitemap. The developers don't see the purpose of using an html sitemap anymore and I have yet to come up with a good reason why we should migrate rather than just get rid of the sitemap since it is not very useful to users. The html sitemap was created about 6 years ago when page rank sculpting was a high priority. Currently, since we already have an XML sitemap, I'm not sure that there's really a need for a html sitemap, other than to maintain all the internal links. How valuable are the internal links found in an html sitemap? And will it be a problem if we remove these from our link profile? 15,000 links sounds significant, but they only account for less than .5% of our internal links. What do all you think?

    Hi Can somebody   help with the inbound links tool  of seomoz,  can you point me in the direction of how it works and the best practices to get the most from it. I know i have a lot more inbound links to  the site in my campaign but  its shows for example 114 links but when i click on show more it only shows 3 . am i doing something wrong? Any help and advice from how people use it , what for  and  what is best practice thanks.

    I have a Wordpress blog on our subdomain and we use relative paths on our domain.  It appears as though Google bot is crawling from the subdomain categories back to the domain relative paths.  This of course results in hundreds of 404 pages. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue without changing the relative path structure of our domain?  I can provide more information if need be.  While I realize these issues are not that pressing, I'd obviously like to remove as many errors as possible.  If anyone has encountered this problem, especially in Wordpress I'd really like to hear your solution or lack there of.  Thank you in advance.

    Hi Guys We have recentley done work for a client where they ended up position 1 for their chosen keyword, which was great. Since then there rank has changed and they are now first in google places rank but not on organic search at all, where as before they were on both? Any suggestions on why this may have happened? Not to sure at why google would have replaced the organic rank with the places rank? Cheers Chris

    I don't use Google analytics to see much more than how many visits I'm getting and what sort of keywords people are using to find our site. I'd like to step up my GA skills a bit. I'm wondring if you guys could give me some advice. I've never really set up any GA goals, or used it to track specific things, but I'd like to. Here are a few things off the top of my head that I would like to track. I'm wondring if these are posable in GA, and if someone could give me some feedback on how to track it / set up goals. Thanks.1 1. I'd like to know how many people click play on a video when they are on a page that has a video. 2. I'd like to know how many people are clicking "like" " google plus, etc.) 3. I'd like to know the path people are taking on our site. For instance, if they click a link from Facebook, and go to a landing page, what page are they visiting next..... 4. How long people are staying on the page I would really like to break this down further by people that visit a link I posted on Facebook, or twitter, or from the link on my twitter profile page, etc... Also if there are any other valuable goals / reports that would be useful for a blogger to track I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

    Hi, I am having an issues among others, regarding indexing dynamic pages. Our website, www.me-by-melia, was just put live and I am concerned the bottom naviagtion pages (http://www.me-by-melia.com/#store, http://www.me-by-melia.com/#facebook, etc) will not be indexed and create duplicate pages. Also, when you open these pages in a new tab, it takes you to homepage. The website was created in HTML5. Please advise.

    Hi all, I recently watched this webinar http://www.seomoz.org/webinars/microformats-real-life-use-cases and it was very good, but I'm not entirely certain if this is a worthwhile thing to be doing? I have a couple of websites I'm improving the SEO on, and things are slowly picking up but I'm not sure if I should be spending time working on improving my landing pages (once these have been identified) or working on the code side of improving my SEO position. When improving my landing pages I'm asking myself the following questions: What is this page about? (Is it clear through headings or introduction text / imagery Does the page sell the benefits of the product / service in a clear manor? Does the page explain what the product is all about? Is the information easy to read, well positioned on-screen and is the content optimised for 1, maybe 2 distinct keywords. Is there an easy method of communication to the site owner if the visitor is interested in the product or service and wants either a quote or wants to find out more. Are there a few links to other relevant areas of the site Granted at the moment I'm in the process of teasing the relevant information out of the client but that's like trying to get blood out of a stone, so I'm exploring other avenues, while they get more content. I am considering going down the route of guest blogging, to possibly get a one-way followed backlink, but again this seems like a lot of effort with no clear guarantee if my efforts in doing this will pay off in being able to generate more leads / enquiries from the websites. Would anyone like to share their thoughts on this?

    Just want to check my thinking on something. So, Google says subdomains stand on their own right? They don't get juice from the root domain. If this is true, the subdomains on a site like HubPages or WordPress.com are essentially a PR0 domain, right? Something like, mysub.hubpages.com. But if you posted an article on Squidoo, a site that doesn't use subdomains, you should get some juice from the root domain passed to your post, right? I usually go the guest blogging route, but I recently read a couple of posts on Web 2.0 link wheels swearing they are awesome, but most of the time the recommendation is to build it using what I perceive to be PR0 sites - Wordpress.com, Tumblr, HubPages subdomains. You would have to develop those sites so they have PR in order to pass juice. Am I off base here or does building a link wheel in this way seem like a waste of time?

    I am dealing with a boss who does not understand all the aspects of SEO and its value. He thinks if I just plaster keywords on a page, we'll rank. He thinks I'm wasting my time blogging, link-building, ect. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an article or blog post that has been published that BRIEFLY explains the value of these things. What I am looking for is NOT an article about the basics of SEO. I don't need something that is written for a beginner SEO just starting out who wants to learn how to do it. I need something that is written for a business owner who isn't technically-minded, so he can understand why and how each aspects helps rankings. Does any such reference exist?

    Just emailed a domain broker about an EMD, looked like a nice short domain and thought a little site off this domain would work well. Domain was a .co.uk, gets around 1,600 ems a month but specific to a service so no room to open it up, even still as a little site that would just turn over I was interested. Say average price of service £50. They come back with: Please make an high $X,XXX offer. I reply: I could rank a non-emd (branded) domain using $XXX with guest blogging for the same term. There logic for the price quoted: If you take £25 profit from each sale, you only need to sell 400 to make your money back. This is coming from one of the largest domain brokers in the US. What a silly way of valuing a domain.

    Hi Moz, A few of our sites experienced widespread ranking drops across all keywords this morning.  Both of these are very strong sites with a high DA (56), moz rank and moz trust above 5. We haven't been doing any black hat SEO, creating spammy links, or paying for links. Is anyone else seeing anything similar or have any ideas as to what type of Algorithm update this might be? We currently rank 67th for our name.

    I use a justhost.com reseller account to host about 15-20 of my own websites.  None of the sites are related, nor do I interlink or do anything blackhat with any of them.  All of the sites have unique content.  Some of it isn't great, but I didn't use a writing service on any of then, it was all written by myself. Recently I found a list of my sites (as well as about 200 others hosted by justhost) on a hacker website that listed the cpanel usernames.  I alerted the host and the issue is being fixed.  I am changing all of my usernames and passwords for all of the sites. Anyway, I recently took a look at some analytics and rankings and noticed that I lost a lot of my rankings on a handful of those sites recently.  I know there was the big de-indexing of junk blogs recently, but I don't think that is the case.  I can still find all of my sites in Google, they are just out of the first 50 results, when a majority of them were ranked from 5-20 in the SERPs. Here are three of the sites and their phrases: http://nintendoconsoles.com/ "nintendo consoles" - This domain I bought from someone so there could be some sort of sandbox period for it. http://webhostingfordrupal.com/ "web hosting for drupal" - This was a new register. http://seotirical.com "seotirical" - we don't show up, but all of the tweets and links to us do. - This was a new register. I realize these sites aren't perfect, and might not have been ready for the first page.  The Nintendo site is about 3 months old, but the Drupal site has been around for 8+ months.  I might try adding a fresh piece of content tonight to see if that helps, but I thought it was curious that it happened across the board with about 5-6 sites on my one reseller account.  I don't even know if the top portion of this post has anything to do with the problems, but I thought I'd see if anyone has insight.     So my website has a paywall that allows users that are IP Authenticated to look at content where unauthorized users don't have access to but this is hurting my SEO (since googlebot doesn't go past the paywall either). Is there any way that I could ask google to go through and crawl the entire site?
