    Hi. Mybsite is www.theprinterdepo.com and I am trying to find a good template for my product/page titles. Many users search our products by the product model: something like Q2121X. Some other users search by: hp 1320 printer or just 1320 printer. They will almost never search for hp 1320 new, or hp 1320 refurbished. My website is developed in magento, and we have a SEO plugin in which I can put a template for the URL and also a template for the product title. I was thinking for title and URL. title + condition + productmodel However many users search for: "refurbished printers" and maybe its better that our products say something like this: HP 1320 Refurbished Printer, instead of: HP 1320 Printer - Refurbished - Q2121X Please let me know your suggestions.

    HELP!!! after implementing some changes suggested by SEOMoz Pro the only changed is that i lost some very very very dear positions. I had expected that my website would raise in position due to the changes but in fact it lost some. I live in the netherlands so i use Google NL and Bing NL for rank tracking. For some specific keywords like: kamperen bij de boer, boerderijcampings, boerencampings, Vekabo Campings, minicampings, kampeerartikelen, boerencamping frankrijk i only lost positions and thus visitors. Some of the keywords lost about 9 positions. What am i doing wrong? I do everything SEOMoz suggested including changing 301 titles on my website due to titletags with more then 70 characters and the only thing that happens is losing positions? Duplicate content is no longer an issue. No errors were found what so ever and still in stead of improving the rankings the declined. Who can help me because this is not what i expected from this program.

    Hi, I'm looking into building a tool which would incorporate SEOMOZ ranking metrics and I have a few questions with regard to the ranking data which will help me develop it correctly. I have done a few searches, for the information but haven't found an answer to these questions on seomoz - if they exist somewhere then I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction. 1/. When looking at the values of metrics such as MozRank and DA, is there any information on how this values are distributed amongst the ranked website - EG The mean / median values of DA and MozRank etc of all websites monitored is X & Y . If there were any distribution graphs for these values then even better. 2/. Along the lines of the above - are there any online resources showing similar information for google PR? 3/. What is the calcuation used in the scale of MozRank and DA  - ie We have a scale of 1-10 for these values - be we also know the scale in not linear but logrithmic - ie Double the Links of a DA 5 website and you would not end up with a DA 10 website - so what is the calculation which defines the scale. A WBF about google PR by Rand indicated that a value of between 8-9 is used in Google PR - but what about the values used for DA and MozRank etc? Many thanks for your help

    I have a relatively simple and small site (60 pages).  All of it is crawlable and there is nothing I want non follow. So, is there any real benefit to a sitemap since Google can get to all the site anyway? Do they give the site more credence or something because it's there? I guess as an aside,  are there any favorite sites that will generate a site map? Thanks!

    We have operated a small ecommerce company for over 10 years in the home and garden industry.  Our product niche is small and there is not a lot of "community" around it as it is just not a social product, yet the product is interesting.  Our internal time is very limited and therefore we have hired external help over the years to do our SEO.  As you all know, this is very challenging to do affordably and not get spammers. As part of our SEO strategy we would like to do some guest blog posts but do not have the internal time to research and build the relationships needed.  We basically have no internal writing skills and have always hired writers to do our blog postings.My question is if you had to hire someone to do guest blog posts how would you go about finding the right person to use?  Of course an excellent writer would be required.  What would you expect to pay for this type of service?  Would you do it hourly or "pay per live post". Any ideas on where to find this type of person?  Thanks.

    In late November, our site experienced a dramatic loss in serps across several pages.  Since this time, we have been trying all sorts of recommendations that included adding the +1 button, adding Facebook like button, differentiation link types and so on.  At the time that all of this happened we also noticed a few problems in GWT concerning inaccessible pages, pages not found and other problems.  We have come really close to fixing all of the technical problems, our pages load quickly and have even added the +1 buttons.  Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any improvement.  Now people are saying that when our site was built, about 5-years ago, the url's had keywords stuffed into them.  Admittedly, they are long but from what I have read making a series of redirects may not be an optimal solution and will take a long time to see any potential benefits. All of the listed url's in the image below have been on the first page in google for the listed search phrase.  While they are still indexed, they are very difficult to find. I would like to solicit the help from people with real world experience in diagnosing a problem like this one?  Is this an offsite problem, onsite problem, hosting issue or something else? I emailed support saying I was not interested, do not charge my card, and I then canceled my account. A few days later they charged my card. They have not replied to my email and I do not see a number anywhere. Anybody know how I can actually reach them?

    I am I really new when it comes to SEO and especially link building. I have been hooked into websites ever since I did my first just writing content on what I loved. Then came the number one ranking and enquiries! Since that time I have created many websites and have always relied on good on page optimisation and have got great results in low competition keywords. Now I am trying to make a living out of this business with multiple websites retailing products I am hitting more moderate competition on keywords and have found myself on a 30 trial with SEOmoz. This has been a huge eye opener for a beginner and I have not had much sleep since analysing all the data that the tools can give. (My wife thinks I have an online mistress). What has really got me stuck is the link analysis on competitors open site explorer! As I am becoming a real SEO research geek and creating spreadsheets on my competitors links I am finding many are paid directory links! (one off 30 dollars’) . From what I understand from Google is that paid links are against their guidelines? These links are from sites that are ranking above me? What I am asking is should I follow suit in a fine balanced mix or stay clear of paid links completely? Where I always write unique content  on experience for my content category pages the real chance of organic linking is slim. Is the only way forward to buy the odd cheeky link?

    Hey everyone. So here is what's going on. 1. Built new website. Will be using generally the same URL's as original. 2. Incorporated and expanded on a previously separate informative blog. a. Many articles contain very similar if not the same articles as our blog. 3. The blog will be taken down as soon as new site is put online. So my question is just. Could someone list the like top 5 important things I need to keep in mind before putting this website live? I don't mind searching forums and blogs for the how-to part; I just need to know what I should be thinking about and getting done pre-launch. I believe re-directing the blog articles should be done?     Hi again, Right I have wrote some notes on what I have read on here, the web and from my diagnostics. Our site is a e-commerce site for mens designer clothing. All back end editing has to be done by the web firm who host it. We can edit CMS stuff such as SEO title, descriptions, product info etc... Any help or clarification would be greatly beneficial, right lets go (sorry about the long read). <70 title characters, this is something I am going to implement on the back of some advice on here. Does it matter what order words appear in the title? Eg) Mens Blue Armani Jeans Jacket or Blue Armani Jeans Mens Jacket. Would it really matter? Is it good practice or worthwhile to use seo titles with the colour of the item at the front? I ask this as I am not sure if we would be affected by starting the first few words of each title with the brand name. eg) Blue Armani Jeans, Red Armani Jeans as opposed to Armani Jeans in Blue, Armani Jeans in Red? SEO title still, should I just include what that item is and nothing else? Or does adding something else at the end go against you? eg) Blue Armani Jeans as opposed to Blue Armani Jeans | Mens Armani Jeans UK? Am I trying too hard to get relevant words in there? Our meta descriptions are about 170-220 characters long for each item/page, is this too much? Sometimes struggle with the uniqueness of descriptions, as we can have loads of the same item, but only the colour is different. So after 5 go's, words get harder to put together. What % of a description do you think needs to be unique? Next is what comes from the crawl diagnostics Duplicate Page Titles: We are being warned because each page is showing up with a sort applied to it or pages that no longer exist. We also have filters for product types, so we show as dups for say all-clothing/armani-jeans/  has the same SEO features as shirts/armani-jeans/ and say jeans-trousers/armani-jeans/. I don't have the ability to SEO the filtered titles in the CMS. How would I fix this? Long URL: How important is the length of the URL? I make sure the URL is what the item is eg) armani-jeans-mens-jacket-6A554. The number at the end is the items style number. Should I always keep the URL as short as possible? And how far over the 115 is acceptable as for some items were only 1-10 characters over and its hard to go shorter? No. of links per page: Due to being an e-commerce site, pages such as TOPS could have over 100 products easy, not to mention the links in navigation etc... How important is this? Rel Cononical: We have 2,591 of these. What are they, how can I fix it? It is important? H1 tags: Should these be put on keyword phrases on each brands page? Should it go on the homepage only? How many H1 tags on a site/page can you have? I can't go back end code so webfirm would have to edit. Howver in CMS I can H1 product decriptions and brand descriptions, would that be useful? Keywords within the CMS, how useful are these? They are becoming a pain to do, so I don't want to do them if I dont have to. How many would be too many? Product On Page Descriptions: How long should these be? Does it matter if its a bullet list of features? Or should it just be 2-3 lines of what the item is, features etc...?     Looking for any insights regarding experience with optimization and HTML5 websites that use parallax scrolling making the website only one page (single unique URL). If done right, I've seen a number of these sites with great UX, clean design and nice layouts, but it comes down to only being able to optimize a single page.     Hello everyone, I am new to SEOmoz and SEO in general and I have a quick questions. When running a SEO Web Crawler report on my URL, I noticed in the report that my home page (also known as my index page) was listed twice. Here is what the report was showing: www.example.com/ www.example.com/index.php So are these 2 different urls? If so, is this considered duplicate content and should I block crawler access to the index.php? Thanks in advance for the help!

    I have a few high pr blogs all setup on different ip addresses.  Should I optimize these blogs for my chosen keywords I want to use as backlinks to my "money site". In other words if my keyword is "ice cream" and im sending links back to my money site with the anchor text "ice cream" and ice cream type keywords...wouldnt it be logical to make that blog optimized for ice cream as well?  My thought is that google will find these links even more powerful if they come from a website that already appears to be ice cream related. ...man i want some ice cream now

    Im currently setting up a large network and my original thought was to target keywords via the city and then setting up a website with the domain name being that keyword.  Now im thinking that in the long run thats going to be a massive pain in my ass.  Im thinking what i should do is something along these lines...     Hi i have found a website on my dedicated server that is not mine by using a number of tools including http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/web-sites-on-web-server/ the site that i found that was not mine is buycostumes.com i contacted my hosting company and told them and this is the reply i got back We have checked the issue and it appears there have a bug/glitch in this site, because after we checked the mentioned domain we found that this website respond on IP which is not our and is not assisgned in your Dedicated server as you may preview below: Found 3 domains hosted on the same web server as buycostumes.com (66.45.3.44). buycostumes.com (linkback) target.com (linkback) www.certifigroup.com (linkback) Thus if you find any issues on your web server, please mention them in this ticket and we will be glad to provide you with further assistance on this matter.     I noticed recently that one of the main sites I run dropped ranks quite heavily across the board. I then noticed that with very link building during the time that the ranks were down (about 1 month) that my ranks went back up again really quickly. All this with very little link building effort, and its the same link building campaign I've been running for a while. So I'm wondering has any been experiencing ranking flux between jan and feb? I know that people reckon if you fix some things your ranks can improve again, but I barley fixed anything on the site and yet it dropped some keywords from 1st page to 3rd page and then back to 3rd page; some keywords went back to original position some were lower but non were higher.

    Hey there I'm new to both SEO and Seomoz. I have this personal site I've been working on SEO wise (slowly since I started learning from 0) and I have reached a point where the only missing thing for me to do is build links. However, the competitors for my site have thousands of links. From all I've read on the web regarding SEO&LinkBuilding, including articles in this site...the old method of spamming links wherever/whenever possible is now being penalized while the practice of manual/hand-built links of higher quality and lesser quantity is rewarded. So I went ahead and approached several linkbuilding companies and one thing that struck me was the level of uncertainty regarding the chances of getting a site to get to the first page. I understand there's factors you cannot predict or control, such as what your competitors are doing on the SEO front...but ultimately, I'm curious as to how do you effectively gauge the possibility of getting to the top page of any keyword combination? Especially when dealing with clients... since apparently whoever 'guarantees' you anything is a fraud or uses blackhat techniques...how do you pitch the 'uncertainty' to the client? Likewise...how do you know if you can make it to the top page or viceversa? Cheers

    Hello, I have run the "Crawl Diagnostics" report using SEOmoz pro and it says that I have a total of 56 errors. 18 of those errors being duplicate content and another 38 errors being duplicate title tags. Now I have looked at both reports and detail and the reason I am getting there errors is due to the fact the it is checking "http" and "https". So for example: my website is http://www.widgets.com On the crawl diagnostics report, it also checks https://www.widgets.com So it looks like I have duplicate content and duplicate title tags because of this Now my question is this: Is this really duplicate content? If so, how do I fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello everyone, I am new to SEOmoz and SEO in general. I am trying to wrap my head around everything and one of the issues I am having trouble grasping is how each individual page on our website plays into ranking for certain keywords. I will explain in more detail below: 1.) We are not a blog, we have a pretty static website. 2.) We can add as many pages to our website as needed (for SEO purposes) 3.) Our site is fairly small, about 25 pages on the website. Now with that information above, here are our main questions & concerns: 1.) What is the best way to rank in the search engines for 50 of our best converting keywords with only 25 pages on our website? 2.) We have 2-3 competitors that rank in positions 1-3 for about 30 of our keywords we are trying to rank for. But no matter what you type in, for example, "cars" "buy cars" "buy a car online" "truck prices" etc, the results that the search engines display our their homepages. Not the other pages on their websites that actually rank for each one of those individual keywords. Is this normal? That is something that we would like for our rankings to do if we have any control over it. 3.) Should each page try to rank for a unique individual keyword? For example, when using the SEOmoz On-page Optimization tool, should I try ranking 2 pages for "buy cars online" or just 1 page? Say my homepage has an "A" grade for the keyword, "buy cars online" but so does my second page on my website. Are these pages essentially competing with each other? Or will the search engines pick their favorite page and display the one they like the best? Any help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to getting this cleared up. Thanks

    I just got a duplicate URL error on by SEOMOZ report - and I wonder if I should worry about it Assume my site is named  www.widgets.com I'm getting duplicate url from http://www.widgets.com & http://www.widgets.com/ Do the search engines really see this as different on the home page? The general drift on the web is that You site should look like Home page = http://www.widgets.com And subpages http://www.widgets.com/widget1/ Of course it seems as though the IIS7 slash tool will rewrite everything Including the home page to a slash.

    We had a site from Feb-2011 to Nov-2011 at the domain amcoexterminating.com. The site was pure HTML/CSS and the daily unique visitors steadily increased over that time. So all was fine. We then moved the site to a CMS (Joomla)  on Dec. 6th.  From that day forward, the daily visitors went into the tank. Before the move, if you typed "amcoexterminating.com" or "amco exterminating" into Google search, the site would be the first result (as you'd expect since those are the words that make up the actua domain).  But we tried this yesterday and the site did not come up at all.  NOT GOOD.  It would work in Yahoo or Bing, but not in Google.  So obviously, the problem with Google search directly affected the daily visitors. We just checked Webmaster tools yesterday (yes, this should have been done sooner, lesson learned) and it said "Site has severe health issues - Important page blocked by robots.txt".  It listed the "important" page URL and it was just a link to an image. Regardless, I wiped out the Joomla created robots.txt file and added a new one and made it just say... User-agent: *Allow: / About 14 hours later, after the new robots.txt file was recognized by Google, the "severe health" message went away.  However if I search in Google for "amcoexterminating.com", it still doesn't show up and the client is concerned (as they should be). Do you think the search engines just need more time to refresh?  If so, once it refreshes, should the site show up first again right away? Or is it possible the robots.txt file had nothing to do with the issue?  If so, what other things could I check into that might cause Google search to not find a site even if you search for exact domain name? Please share any and all things I should look into as I need to get this site showing in Google search again (as it was before moving to the CMS). Thanks!

Has anyone any idea on how to fix this or ave you  being on the same boat as me. Im pretty sure this is why it coming up that I have a lot of dup content on the website also.     Hi Guys, I have a technical question. Ive started optimising an ecommerce site for a client and come across some duplicate content issues:- This page: http://www.bracknelllamps.com/projector-manufacturer/SANYO/70 is actually indexed in Google as:- http://www.bracknelllamps.com/projector-lamps.php?make=SANYO Both pages have the same content and I'm guessing the indexed page refers to an old way of navigating the site. As I'm concerned about duplicate content issues, what's the best approach as this seems to be the case for all 'projector manufacturer' pages. would it be to 301 redirect each manufacturer url (this could take forever with 107) manufacturers or rel="canonical" tag? to show Google which page I want indexing?     I realize the importance of keyword research and finding keywords where there IS demand and not TONS of competition and optimizing your title and descriptions etc AND content on the different pages for those same specific keywords.......... But.... What do you suggest I do to BEST optimize a site for a law firm that handles family law (divorce), bankruptcy AND criminal. It's one firm with 3 attorneys who specialize in different areas. I know SEO is challenging and ever changing and I read and study and have made significant, noticeable, improvements for some sites but I have to admit this is over my head. I am a true student of seo and love the subject. My dilemma is I know a blog is an important piece of any good seo campaign but I know very little about HOW to blog well......this is my new site and blog page. I only have a couple articles so far but many more planned. http://sawwebmarketing.com/seo-blog/ When I read an article that would be particuarly beneficial for my visitors can i post or share that on MY blog (giving the author the credit of course) without google thinking its duplicate content? is there anything specific I need to do with my blog for google to "see" the new, fresh content that is being added to the site? I have seen "tagged" items at the bottom of some blogs. Is this important? Some blogs will have a word or string of 2-3 words that are a link to a specific website. Does this help me or just them or just people reading the blog? **All I know is articles I write need to be relevant to my site and interesting and ORIGINAL and of benefit to my site visitors. ** Any advice that would help insure my blog articles get me all the juice they can would be GREATLY appreciated!     Hi i am working on my site at the moment www.in2town.co.uk and i am going through y slow as well as http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2town.co.uk/upnmEWvO  to make my website faster and better and it is telling me to enable keep alive. Now i am not sure what this does but i have contacted my hosting company and they are asking me if there are any settings that i want. my site is in joomla and it is a magazine site, can anyone let me know if it is a good idea to enable this or not and if so what settings should i be looking at. my site is updated all day long so i need to make sure this is write for me. many thanks

    I'm rebuilding a real estate website with 4 subdomains that have Page Authorities between 45 and 50. Since it's a real estate website it has 20,000+ pages of unique (listing) content PER sub-domain. The subdomains are structured like: washington.xyzrealty.com and california.xyzrealty.com. The root domain has a ~50 Page Authority. The site is about 7 years old. My preference is to focus all of my efforts on the primary domain going forward, but I don't want to waste the power of the subdomains. I'm considering: 1. Putting blogs or community/city pages on the subdomains 2. 301 redirecting all of the existing pages to matching pages on the new root domain. 3. Any other ideas??

    I have an old site which is being moved to a new tld due to re-branding. I understand I would do a series of 301 redirects from the pages of the old site to capture the authority and move to the new site. However, at some point in the future (probably 1-2 years) we may want to re-use the old site again for a different brand (it has a good brand, just not for what we're going after). Question is - can a redirected site be re-used at some point in the future? And if so, which site would new authority (links, etc.) go to?

    Something interesting happened on the last update for my site on SEOmoz pro tools. For the last month or so the errors on my site were very low, then on the last update I had a huge spike in errors, warnings, and notices.  I'm not sure if somehow I made a change to my site (without knowing it) and I caused all of these errors, or if it just took a few months to find all the errors on my site? My duplicate page content went from 0 to 45, my duplicate page titles went from 0 to 105, my 4xx (client error) went from 0 to 4, and my title missing or empty went from 0 to 3. On the warnings sections my missing meta description tag went form a hand full to 444.  (most of these looking to be archive pages.) Down in the notices I have over 2000 that are blocked by meta robots, meta-robots nofollow, and Rel canonical. I didn't have any where near this many prior to the last update of my site. I just wanted to see what I need to do to clean this up, and figure out if I did something to cause all the errors.  I'm assuming the red errors are the first things I need to clean up. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Also if you'd like me to post any additional information, please let me know and I'd be glad to.

    Hi, Never used cloud hosting before. Found a service for $60-70 a month, just want to give it a try on a new website. They also have an additional CDN feature for additional $40 a month. It promises great results as well as google's love. Does cloud hosting+cdn worth it's money? Website will have around 500 visitors a day, but all will be ppc, so there is no need for a server. but reliability is a great issue Thanks, Serge

    I know this one is a little more technical than pure SEO, but it somewhat ties in. I'm redirecting 2 sites to one. The companies have combined, and I've imported all their content that has been created, and the url mapping is set up correctly. So it currently is set up like this: A.com --> C.com
    A.com/blogpost-1 --> C.com/blogpost-1 B.com --> C.com B.com/blogpost-20 --> C.com/blogpost-20 What i would like is some method a redirect when landing at C.com or C.com/blogpost-XX. And in turn display a message in a DIV so I can style it. And yes, I have nothing better to do on a Friday night 🙂

    I was just checking Google Webmaster Tools for one of the first times (I know this should have been a regular habit). I noticed that on Feb 8th we had almost 80K errors of type 503.  This is obviously very alarming because as far as I know our site was up and available that whole day.  This makes me wonder if there is a firewall issue or something else that I'm not aware of. Any ideas for the best way to determine what's causing this? Thanks, Chris

    I was using Open Site Explorer to check out some competition and I noticed that there were a good amount of links coming from a no-name blog Seen Here. Obviously there are 50+ mentions of Express Auto Repair across a few blog posts. I've seen this tactic used before, but does it really do anything for the client, or is this just old school trickery? Thanks for your help.
