How do you get the Mini-Embed-Link-Thingies in search results?
-
Rand Fishkin touched on the tiny links that can appear for your search result - not the 6 pack of links that show the structure of your site, but the 2-4 links that show up on one line below your meta description. Any idea how to earn or influence these?
He mentioned them in the "New Opportunities in Google's Search Results" webinar from May 2011 on Slide 19 if that helps.
An example would be if you search "seo guide" in Google search, the SEOmoz link has those mini links below the meta description.
Are they random or can they be influenced?
-
Hi Dylan - I'm pretty sure they can be influenced, but to say precisely how is tough.
For those who are curious about what these are - this query currently shows some under the first result: https://www.google.com/search?q=site+explorer
I'd say they're likely triggered by some of the same things that make sitelinks happen on a broader scale:
- User/usage data showing navigation from that page to other subpages on the site
- Link connections from folks who link to the main ranking page and subpages
- Relevance overlap of content between the pages
- Link popularity/importance of the subpages
- Some inclination from Google that this particular site/set-of-pages are potentially a navigational result for the query (i.e. the user is searching specifically for that stuff, not necessarily in discovery mode for broader results)
Hope that helps!

i think those links are anckor tags within the page, at least they were on one example i have seen.
-
I have been watching your post hoping someone would answer, so then I may know also.
I tried for a long time to get sitelinks(not mini links) for a clinet, when they pop up on a different clints site who i did not think a likly candidate. so I guess there is a bit of luck to it.
I could not miss your name, as I am a fan of Bob Dylan and Slim Whitman.

How I can check if Google and other search engines will properly cache a page (a dynamic one)?
My site is currently disallowing search engine bots with the help of robots.txt. These dynamic pages can be crawled using Screamingfrog since they are linked to a static category page which is also linked to the homepage. Thanks in advance!

Drop in Page Indexing, Small rise in Search Queries
Hello, I have a news based website so i am creating multiple new posts daily. I changed a lot of the site and got rid of old potentially duplicate content back in feb and had a sharp drop in pages indexed. I know this was because I removed a lot of pages though. However I still have a good 20,000 + pages on my site and my indexing has dropped a further three times since then. From 9,000 to 2,000 a coupe of months ago and then slowly down since April to just 133. It doesn't seem to have affected my search queries yet but surely will if it continues. I am really confused as to how this might happen & how to turn it around. We dont use any dodgy SEO tricks either.

Are internal search meta keywords necessary?
One of my duties is to improve internal search results. From my reading, good site architecture and content is the way to achieve that. However, for example, are internal meta keywords necessary? I know they haven't mattered externally for a long time, but somebody in my department mentioned wanting this functionality in our CMS. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I used to rank 12 or 13 for a specific search term. Now I don't show up at all. What's cuasing this?
Used to rank on the second page for a specific search query, now we don't seem to show up at all for the same query. Has Google penalized us or is something else going on?
