Is someone trying to sabotage my site?
-
I think I may have a problem with someone trying to get me in trouble for paid links. If you look at the following websites, scroll to the bottom and look at the featured links area. There is a link to my website with my keyword on all of them.
Now I see a lot of the same links here which leads me to believe these sites are all owned by the same group. Also, 4 of the 5 are Bay Area news sites. The question I have is, are these links hurting me? I did not buy these and did nothing to put them there. I asked the previous owner of the domain who I am in touch with. He is the only other person to own it and he never purchased those links. My guess is a competitor is targeting me perhaps?
Just wondering on everyone's take on this. I really can't afford to be getting hit by these potentially penalizing links right now, not when the busy season is starting up. Should I try to get them removed? Does anyone have experience with this or know how it might have happened?

I would suggest contacting the group and first asking how the ads were placed. Just be honest and share you represent the site owner, you noticed the ads and want to understand why they exist. If they wish to verify your authenticity, they can always e-mail you using an e-mail address on the given domain.
Either way, 5 out of 362 linking domains should not be any worry at all. While these links are not nofollowed, they are marked as featured links so Google likely devalues them anyway.

I know everyone ever associated with the website and no one put the links there. We have no idea how they got there. Think its worth trying to get them removed?

I work closely with the last owner who had it its entire life. I looked it up in archive.org and from the earliest version of the site it has been him. He knows he definitely did not place the links there. I asked every employee that has ever worked on the site and no one put it there. It is baffling.
There are 362 linking root domains and these are the 5 I can find that appear paid. Likely not doing a lot of damage. Should I contact the group Keri found, MediaNews Group and get these links removed? Even worth it? I mean, they are obviously paid, so I would think this can be hurting me.

Hi Dan,
I can't speak to sabotage, but I can confirm that the newspapers are all owned by the same group (MediaNews Group http://www.medianewsgroup.com/consumers/Pages/OurBrands.aspx ). I happen to be in the Bay Area and knew that at least three of them were related.
Like Ryan, I'd ask around to see if someone thought they were being helpful and signed up for those without letting you know. I've seen it happen on here before.

How many linking root domains does your site have overall? What percentage of "bad" linking domains are there to your site?
If your site has 1k LRDs and 10 of them are spammy it should not have any affect on your site. If you have 100 LRDs and 50+ of them are spammy, then I would definitely be concerned.
With respect to how it happened, I have yet to find a competitor who has paid for links in an effort to devalue a site. I would suspect the last site owner paid for the links and forgot about them. How long ago did you buy the domain? How long have those links existed? Any chance they have been there a long time and you are just now noticing them?
Is there anyone else who could have acquired those links? Someone who may have thought they were helping?

Moving content form Non-performing site to performing site - wihtout 301 Redirection
I have 2 different websites: one have good amount of traffic and another have No Traffic at all. I have a website that has lots of valuable content But no traffic. And I want to move the content of non-performing site to performing site. (Don't want to redirect) My only concern is duplicate content. I was thinking of setting the pages to "noindex" on the original website and wait until they don't appear in Google's index. Then I'd move them over to the performing domain to be indexed again. So, I was wondering If it will create any copied content issue or not? What should i have to take care of when I am going to move content from one site to another?

Does ID's in URL is good for SEO? Will SEO Submissions sites allow such urls submissions?
Example url: http://public.beta.travelyaari.com/vrl-travels-13555-online It's our sites beta URL, We are going to implement it for our site. After implementation, it will be live on travelyaari.com like this - "https://www.travelyaari.com/vrl-travels-13555-online". We have added the keywords etc in the URL "VRL Travels". But the problems is, there are multiple VRL travels available, so we made it unique with a unique id in URL - "13555". So that we can exactly get to know which VRL Travels and it is also a solution for url duplication. Also from users / SEO point of view, the url has readable texts/keywords - "vrl travels online". Can some Moz experts suggest me whether it will affect SEO performance in any manner? SEO Submissions sites will accept this URL? Meanwhile, I had tried submitting this URL to Reddit etc. It got accepted.

Is this site buying backlinks?
dankstop.com Almost all of their links come from mainly the same few sites, and some of their links have a really high spam score.

Should I 301 redirect my old site are just add a link to my new site
I used to offer design and web services on a site that is current blank (no content, no links). My questions is should I add a little bit of content, maybe a brief explanation with a link to my new site. Or should I just add 301 redirect. This is purely a question of what is better for SEO and ranking for my new site (not a branding question).

Whether to use new domain or old ecommerce site domain that has been incomplete for a long time.
Hello, We are starting a second store in our niche. Which of the following should I choose: A. We have a site from a year and a half ago that we put content on but never actually added products. The category and article content needs to be completely rewritten. We will completely rewrite the content to be much better and up to date. We're planning on adding products and rewriting the manufacturer descriptions. B. We could use a new domain that is closer to exact match for our main keyword. We'd just buy one for $15 I don't know whether A or B would be the fastest way to get the site going. I'm concerned that leaving a site half done for a year could cause an issue, but I really don't know. If you've got experience with this, please advise. Thank you.

Is one of my competitors trying to get my site penalized?
Hi guys, I have been ranking #2 for a popular search term for several months now, and today I noticed a drop to #5, so I went to check my backlink profile, and I'm seeing thousands of no-follow exact keyword matched backlinks, all from spammy looking websites. I looked at some of the links and they do link to me, but I didn't generate these links, and I have never paid anybody externally to build links for me. What is the best course of action for me here? link disavow tool?

If our site hasn't been hit with the Phantom Update, are we clear?
Our SEO provider created a bunch of "unique url" websites that have direct match domain names. The content is pretty much the same for over 130 websites (city name is different) that link directly to our main site. For me this was a huge red flag, but when I questioned them and they said it was fine. We haven't seen a drop in traffic, but concerned that Google just hasn't gotten to us. DA for each of these sites are 1 after several months. Should we be worried? I think yes, but I am an SEO newbie.
