OSE Advanced for specific directory only?
-
Pls how do I set up Open Site Explorer Advanced to look for backlinks to files in ONLY a certain directory?
so if the domain is 1234.com, I don't care about links to 1234.com. OSE can find those very neatly!
What I do care about is ONLY links to 1234.com/profiles and I can't seem to figure out a way to do this.
the /profiles directory has thousands of profiles in it - and we think we have hundreds of thousands of backlinks - so ideally, I'd like to use regex or DOS like filtering to look at only those which start with 9 or 8 or whatever.
-
so yeah - this has worked.
thanks everybody!
you don't see the data in the normal interface, but there in the download from advanced - woot there it is!
well worth the wait!
-
thanks - already tried that but just in case I didn't do it right, I just tried again.
not happening - any one of the profiles has hundreds of backlinks from dozens of domains.
the Link Metrics (shown at the top of the page) result from /profile shows only 3 domains and 300 links. This is easily off by 100 to 1000.
of course, the advanced download may show more as it has been a few minutes and it has not yet completed the spidering process.
what was is not happening- at least in the OSE standard reports - is OSE is not looking at all files in that subdirectory somehow.
I'll let you know shortly if the download shows different results.

OSE does allow you to export backlinks to a particular subfolder, but it can be a little tricky.
1. On the OSE homepage, enter the exact directory path you want OSE to explore. This is the screen you want to enter it on, not the advanced report screen. Hit search.
2. The directory needs to end in a backslash "/". Sometimes OSE will try to redirect you to a directory without a slash. For example, it tries to redirect "seomoz.org/blog/" to "seomoz.org/blog" (no slash). But it gives you the option to see your original entry. Always choose the entry with the backslash.
3. After this, on the Advanced reports tab, choose the "Links that Link to;" option that says Any page in this subfolder. Choose any other options you want on this screen.
Viola. You are done!
This should return links only pointing to the subdirectory you specified in step 1. If you have any trouble, feel free to contact customer support.

tried it, (with and without the trailing slashs) - it doesn't seem to work - maybe you'll have better luck.
getting them all and filtering also doesn't work as we are well in excess of the size of the data set.
can we work with boolean or regex filters?
RE the size - well this is both good and bad news... we'll get into that in a bit.
-
Nope didn't work. Not sure what that feature actually does now. Once I download the CVS, it was possible to use excel to sort by the url that included the subdir. I know that is not what you are looking for, but it may help until someone else that knows chimes in.
-
I am not 100% sure, but it looks like on the advanced tab you can download a CSV that will return links to a sub folder. In section 2 of the tab there is an option for: "Any page in this subfolder".
I entered a www.seomoz.org/users to run the test. I will report back once the report is done.

Poor OSE results on my links
I am really disappointed with the "return on investment" I am getting from being a Pro member and using Open Site Explorer to analyze and remedy my inbound links post-penguin. My site has been crawled for over 4 months now by seomoz and OSE reprots that I have "external links" from just 25 or so domains - whereas Google webmaster tools has accurately identified well over 270 domains that link back to my site. How can do any sort of link removal strategy using open site explorer? I am paying $100/mo for SEomoz, and nothing for Google. What is the problem?

Has SEOMoz considered making it possible to follow a specific Q & A thread via Twitter and/or Email?
I think it would be great if there was a way to follow a particular Q & A thread without having to post a comment. There are so many great topics and discussions in here and sometimes I lose track of some that I'd like to continue following as people post, without having to post in the thread myself. Have you guys (Mozzers) ever considered adding a "Follow this thread on Twitter" or "Follow this thread by email" function? Or is there already a way to do this (without posting), that I just haven't found?

Is it possible to use the RankTracker to track specific location rankings?
We are a regional store and tracking the "global" rankings isn't super useful. We need to know what our organic rankings are for our specific market area. Is this possible with the SEOMOZ Rank tracker tool? I didn't see this option but I just wanted to check over here since it seems like it would be a pretty common issue. Thanks!

I need country specific ranking reports for our Google/Yahoo/Bing positions
Hi Guys, Using the ranking reports given here at SeoMoz I cannot select various countries as it seems to only provide US Google/Yahoo/Bing results. I need ranking reports specifically for Thailand, UK, States, Australia, India, Hong Kong. Does anyone know of any such tools? Many thanks in advance.

Discrepancy in OSE data
When I look up a domain in OSE, it shows that there are 3K+ links from 349 domains. However, when I download the CSV, I only see around 1,500 links. Why the discrepancy?

Discrepancies in link reports from SEOMoz and OSE
Hello, I am trying to understand the link profile of my site. In the competitive analysis from SEOMoz, it shows 22K+ of links, with about 900+ being external followed links and 800+ internal. Webmaster tools shows a similar number of external followed links, but the link report from OSE only shows about 150 external followed links. This brings up several questions: Where is this 22K total links coming from? Why is there such a difference in the SEOMoz competitive analysis and the OSE report? Why does the OSE report show some links as not followed, while Webmaster tools lists them as followed? Am new to the off-page aspects of SEO, and I have to say the discrepancy in data from different tools is by far the most challenging thing for me. Would welcome general advice on this topic as well. Thank you!

What happened to OSE/Linkscape data?
Can any member of the Moz team or of the community comment on the most recent OCE/linkscape update as of 09/08/2011. It appears that the link data capture for one of our platform is dramatically different than previously and that there are some huge discrepancies? Any update on the change would be appreciated as we use all these updates as benchmarks. Thanks
