Www.mydomain.tld same as mydomain.tld - unexpected results
-
Hi
I set up a campaign to monitor a website and chose to track the root domain, however the report showed every single page on my website was duplicated with itself when seen as www.mydomain.tld as opposed to just mydomain.tld.
I deleted the campaign and set it up to monitor only the www.mydomain.tld as I don't use any other subdomains, however in Bing results the website is listed without the www and so is not recognised in the ranking checker.
How can I set it up so that seomoz recognises the pages as the same either with or without the www?

Excellent response THB. We do both for all sites.

Hi Pandy
Set your htaccess file to redirect all non www variants to the www ones (or vice versa depending on which you'd prefer). That should prevent the seoMoz 'bot' from reaching the 'wrong' ones(and also make sure search engines don't too.
On a side note - if Bing has your pages cached without the www and you want to go with the www variants then I suggest you first do a 301 redirect of all the pages and the domain itself so you don't lose out on any traffic and links built etc
Edit : going to leave my reply even though it seems THB beat me too it(only just though!)

To handle this you need to setup a permanent redirect from mydomain.tld to www.mydomain.tld (or vice versa).
If your site is running Apache you can use a .htaccess file do handle this.
Simply create a file called .htaccess (make sure when you save the file you are not saving it as .txt as that with append the .txt to the file like so: .htaccess.txt which you do not want; save as 'All Files' or whatever), and save it to your public_html directory, or whatever your web root is.
Add the following:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.mydomain.tld$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.tld/$1 [L,R=301]
That should now effectively keep your site from being broken into 2.
Google also recommends you create two(2) Profiles within Google Webmaster Tools, one for the www. and one for the non www. where you can then specify under "Site Configuration > Settings > Preferred Domain" which method you have chosen as per your .htaccess file.
Hope that answers your question.

Google results not close to matching MOZ PA and SA - Why?
I'm trying to convince a boss and another client/partner of the value of MOZ, but it's a challenge when Google's results and the MOZ analytics are way off. For example, when I do non-personalized (MOZ toolbar) Google search for "stair lift kansas city" I see some results that make sense. Further down the page I see my prospective client, kclift.com -- it's a new site with poor MOZ grades and almost no backlinks. It has a PA of 1 and a DA of 4. Yet it ranks above a YP site that has a DA of 89, and another site that has a PA of 27 and a DA of 14. What gives? When I used an in-private Bing search for those terms this site didn't display in the 1st 4 pages. That makes sense with these MOZ rankings and the new site. So how does the site get page 1 results on Google for the same terms? (I should note that I've gone to this site a lot, for the client, and done other related searches. I live in Charlotte, which is why I've included Kansas City in the search terms. With this search, I've tried several ways to do a Google search that is truly anonymous, but I'm not sure I've succeeded. I've erased browsing data, used incognito, used other browsers, and used the MOZ non-personalized Google search. All from the same IP though. Does Google track that? If so, how can one do a truly anonymous search on Google?) All suggestions welcome. Thanks! Richard S.

Using Keyword Tool Results
I love the keyword tool for giving me direction and helping to prioritize. My question: Once I have the prioritized keywords, do you recommend having a page for each of the top keywords, using the keyword as the page name? Or is it better to sprinkle the keywords into existing pages? Thank you.

Abnormal crawl issues appearing in my Moz results
I have been asked to look at a site for a friend and was more than surprised to see 16,9k crawl issues appear in the dashboard... of this 6,238 are duplicate page content and 5878 are duplicated page titles. What on earth is going on? I have spoken to the web developer as it appears there is a dev site somewhere and this is his response [Can I stress that Google determines which site was in the index first and then removes other sites it sees as having duplicate content. Our dev sites appearing in the search index would not affect your ranking due to duplicate content as Google would see your site as the first site with the content] As I cannot make contact with him, I am scratching my head, surely a dev site should be no-indexed, it sounds as though he is saying that its ok because Google will take the main site as the first site with the content... Very confused! Help need MOZ community. Manythanks, Sarah

Need Help with www and non-www redirect
Hi everyone, I've been looking around the forum and found some similar topics but none of them have solved my problem. Anyway, I'm new to SEO and found that when I use Open Site Explorer for the www version of my site I see the links directed to my page, but none of my twitter stats show up. When I do the same for my non-www version. I see my twitter stats, but no links. Facebook seems unchanged. Also, the Page Authority is much higher for the www (I assume because of the links) It is my understanding that it doesn't matter which version of the domain is used, I just need to pick one and stick with it (on Google Webmaster Tools, etc.). And that I also need to do a 301 redirect for the version that I'm not using. The issue now is that I have a 301 redirect, and when I type in my url in any version (http, https, www, non-www) it all redirects in the browser without issue. So i know users are getting to the right page, but the Open Site Explorer still sees them as 2 different sites. My concern is that if Open Site Explorer sees it this way then Google may see it this way as well and I could be missing out on potential rankings. I'm currently doing the redirect in the .htaccess file. The redirect looks like this: RewriteEngine On
Moz Pro | | opstart
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L] Any Ideas on what I need to do to properly 301 redirect the site so that my preferred version can get credited with the links, twitter, and Page Authority stats? Also, I'm using wordpress and it has the URL set to the non-www version of the site. However, I think I would like to change this to the www version because most of the links are directing to www, and I also think people are more familiar with that format. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.0 -
Rogerbot's crawl behaviour vs google spiders and other crawlers - disparate results have me confused.
I'm curious as to how accurately rogerbot replicates google's searchbot I've currently got a site which is reporting over 200 pages of duplicate/titles content in moz tools. The pages in question are all session IDs and have been blocked in the robot.txt (about 3 weeks ago), however the errors are still appearing. I've also crawled the page using screaming frog SEO spider. According to Screaming Frog, the offending pages have been blocked and are not being crawled. Webmaster tools is also reporting no crawl errors. Is there something I'm missing here? Why would I receive such different results. Which one's should I trust? Does rogerbot ignore robot.txt? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Campaign Domain "change" (www. vs no www.)
Hello, I'm tracking a domain (with www.thespin.be) since months. Last week we changed things related to domain & server and now SEOmoz has 0 pages crawled. I think that's because now my main domain is without www. (thespin.be). How can I modify my campaign to reflect this "change" (that's not really a new domain..) to avoid losing all my campaign history ? Also, on Google Webmaster Tools it's like I have 2 different sites (one with www. and another without), although I've defined my favorite domain (without www.) months ago.. Google won't update its index. And I have this problem on several other sites.. Thank you very much for giving me a feedback. Regards Jean-Louis
