What keywords should i be using to promote my site
-
Hi i am looking to promote my home page which is a lifestyle magazine www.in2town.co.uk and i am not sure what keywords i should be using to promote it.
I am doing ok for the keyword lifestyle magazine but i am struggling on what other keywords i should be using to get people to the home page of the magazine.
The magazine is nearly finished and we still have a couple of finishing touches to do but the basics of the magazine is as follows
holiday and travel news, soap gossip, celebrity gossip, product reviews, lingerie brands, gastric band hypnotherapy, health, fashion and beauty and holiday reviews.
I want the home page to be the main page where everyone visits but i am not sure what i should be doing to accomplish this.
Any ideas would be of a great help

Along the lines of what Alan is saying, I think your site is a prime candidate to take advantage of many juicy long-tail keywords.
I understand that you'd like to drive traffic to your home page, but keep in mind that the more likely scenario is you'll draw traffic through your articles which are easier to optimize than a frequently changing home page. This is a good thing, though, because people who enjoy your articles will click the home banner and read other articles from your home page. I've become a fan of many blogs this way.
So how do you get more traffic to your site? Make sure you incorporate keywords into every article you write, especially in the titles. For instance, with the Michael Le Vell article, you can search for relevant keywords by simply using Google Autocomplete (see attached image).
This will show you what people are frequently searching for related to Michael Le Vell. In this case, it's good that you included the word "arrested" in your Michael Le Vell article title, but it would be better for SEO purposes if the phrase was together. An alternate title might be "Michael Le Vell Arrested: On Coronation Street AND In Real Life!" There are a lot of related Coronation Street keywords you could use that can be found through the Google Keyword Tool.
My advice: leverage the strength of your site to draw traffic to the entertaining articles and your readers will naturally go to your home page when they want to read more.
I hope that helps!

most glossy lifestyle magazines cover topics from holidays, celebrity gossip, true life stories etc.
Our online magazine is aimed mainly at women

You say that you are targeting.. "lifestyle magazine"..... but you also have lots of content about these topics....
holiday and travel news, soap gossip, celebrity gossip, product reviews, lingerie brands, gastric band hypnotherapy, health, fashion and beauty and holiday reviews.
.... So, which of those would be considered a "lifestyle" and which of them do you have abundant content to support.?
-
well i doubt many people enter "lifestyle magazine" into search. they may want to read one, but i doubt thats what they type.
I would go to the google keyword tool, and start investigating, but most visists will come from long tail search terms, your type of site i think will do well out of long tails. You may not get far with the exact term "Paris Hilton", but you may get a lot of long tails if you write about her.

Moving site from html to Wordpress site: Should I port all old pages and redirect?
Any help would be appreciated. I am porting an old legacy .html site, which has about 500,000 visitors/month and over 10,000 pages to a new custom Wordpress site with a responsive design (long overdue, of course) that has been written and only needs a few finishing touches, and which includes many database features to generate new pages that did not previously exist. My questions are: Should I bother to port over older pages that are "thin" and have no incoming links, such that reworking them would take time away from the need to port quickly? I will be restructuring the legacy URLs to be lean and clean, so 301 redirects will be necessary. I know that there will be link juice loss, but how long does it usually take for the redirects to "take hold?" I will be moving to https at the same time to avoid yet another porting issue. Many thanks for any advice and opinions as I embark on this massive data entry project.

Site Link Issues
For several search terms I get site links for the page http://www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/kolea-condos/ It makes sense that that page be a site link as it is one of my most used pages, but the problem is google gave it the site link "Kolea 10A". I am having 0 luck making any sense of why that was chosen. It should be something like "Kolea Condos" or something of that nature. Does anyone have any thoughts on where google is coming up with this?

Why does my site have a PageRank of 0?
My site (www.onemedical.com) has a PageRank of 0, and I can't figure out why. We did a major site update about a year ago, and moved the site from .md to .com about 9 months ago. We are crawled by Google and rank on the first page for many of our top keywords. We have a MozRank of 4.59. I figured this is something that would just take time to work out of the system, but nothing seems to change while we patiently wait. One more thing to note - when a user comes to the homepage (city selector) and selects their region they will then be cookied and directed to their relevant city site on subsequent visits. But even our city-specific pages (ie www.onemedical.com/sf) have pageranks of 0. My management team keeps asking me about this and I suspect there is something silly that we keep overlooking...but for the life of me, can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

The course of action to move my macro site to some mini sites- justin if you can help
We have a site that we want to break up into mini sites but keep the old site for the major brands. Empirecovers.com is the major and we want to break it off into Empire Truck Covers and Empire Boat covers. What I am thinking of doing is linking from the home to Empiretruckcovers.com instead of a mini page on the site and 301 redirect the mini page to empiretruckcovers.com. Than (there wont be duplicate content) making a small page for truck covers on empire just so people do not get confused. Is this the best way to go or what do you suggest? We are doing this because I feel there is seo value in having mini sites and also the user experience will be cleaner and people will trust it a lot more than inside a big site. The other problem is I have some great rankings on the pages so I want to do it so there is as little damage as possible. I guess once I start I will do all the free directories, yahoo directory and try to get links as fast as I can. Any suggestions would be great. I am going to do a/b testing to see if my adwords convert better on mini site or on the big site for certain keywords too

Recently revamped site structure - now not even ranking for brand name, but lots of content - what happened? (Yup, the site has been crawled a few times since) Any ideas? Did I make a classic mistake? Any advise appreciated :)
I've completely disappeared off Google - what happened? Even my brand name keyword does not bring up my website - I feel lost, confused and baffled on what my next steps should be. ANY advice would be welcome, since there's no going back to the way the site was set up.
