HTTP301 or link ?
-
We have a page on a website (let's name it ABC) which ranks very well on Google for a specific keyword but this keyword is not the main activity of website ABC.
For this reason we created website XYZ for offering the services related to the specific keyword.
How shall we redirect the visitors from website ABC to website XYZ so XYZ gets all the weight ? Is it best to do an HTTP301 from the specific page on site ABC or from site ABC, remove nearly all content related to the keyword and create a link to website XYZ ?
Your advice is well appreciated.

I also ways say, go with what the SE gives you, we think we know a lot, but some times a page will rank well and you just don’t know why. Take it and run with it.

As Alan said, a 301 would not be the best thing to do.
Consider the link from ABC as being a valuable backlink to XYZ for that keyword/niche, and continue with a link-building campaign for both sites. Since ABC is already ranking well for that keyword, you should not stop optimizing it.

Does the page have incomming links?
If not i would not bother 301ing i would place a link on the page to xyz.
I will make a good relevant link,
A 301 redirects requests, if there is no links requesting the page there is nothing to redirect.
if it has incomming links, then you have a choice, maybe test each. I am not quick to mess with a page that ranks, i would try the link first

Internal no follow links
I have just discovered that the WordPress theme I have been using for some time has no follow internal links on the blog. Simply put each post has an image and text link plus a 'read more'. The Read more is a no-follow which is also on my homepage. The developer is saying duplicate follow links are worse than an internal no follow. What is your opinion on this? Should I spend time removing the no follow?

Disavowing Links: Over-optimized Anchor Text
If a site has been effected by Penguin, and the main issue is over-optimized anchor text. Would the disavow file take care of this? If there is a no-follow added to the link when Google next crawls the site, wouldn't you still have the optimized anchor text in your profile?

Outbound Links
I have a page on upstrap-pro.com that provides weights of cameras and lenses. The user/buyer of my on-slip camera straps needs to know the weight his camera and lens to determine the proper pad size... large to small. We have put together a long list of the most popular customer cameras. The way it was done (by my daughter) was to also provide a via a link to dpreview.com which is an excellent site for camera information including specifications etc. My personal feeling about this is mixed. I can do it by having it open dpreview.com in a new tab but then the user/customer could still get distracted and go down the rabbit hole. On the other hand dpreview is such a good site that if they are new to photography and don't know about it, they should. I don't get a dime from dpreview. If fact I doubt they would ever link back to me because they do not write about camera straps. I hear mixed things about outbound links. In this file there are quite a few outbound links to dpreview to keep it consistent. I could do a nofollow on all of them but I read that this is the easy way out. Google is jump ball and I have no clue what Cutts and his merry men are going to decide is cool or not cool. I'd like some thoughts or options... Thanks... A small part of the file below. Quality links are beneficial, but are neutral links detrimental?
So obviously a link profile featuring quality / authoritative / relavant in-bound links is preferable, but here's my question: If I'm starting work on a brand new domain, should I build links that one would consider neutral (i.e. from a non-spammy, but unrelated site) or should I not bother and only focus on quality links? Thanks

Canonical versus 301 for affilaite links
Affiliate links for the Volusion ecommerce shops are of the form mydomain.com/?Click=XX where XX is the affiliate ID. Volusion uses rel=canonical to redirect the affiliate links to mydomain.com. Is this a good solution? I used iDevAffiliate for another online store, and their solution was to use 301 redirects to trip off the ? string. Comments? Best,

Does HTTPS Affect Inbound Link Numbers?
Hi All, I'm dealing with an internal IT staff that is trying to change an entire site to run on HTTPS instead of HTTP. The way they want things configured, all links pointing to HTTP URLs would redirect to the HTTPS. I'm assuming this would adversely affect page rank/domain authority, etc... am I right there? Thanks, Ben
