New Backlinks by Week?
-
One of my competitors has recently got a surge of links and I need to work out where they've been focusing their efforts to make sure I don't get left behind.
The only method I've really got at the moment is looking at saved reports from OSE and trying to find new links between them. This is obviously time consuming and has some odd results (Old content showing up only on newer reports for example and have to ensure that each weeks report is generated exactly the same).
What I really need is a weekly output of where 2 or 3 websites have been gaining links. Can anyone recommend any tools that can help me with this?
Thanks

I use advanced links manager (I also use linkscape and seo majestic too). Advanced links manager tracks new links from previous update. This data is be available in linkscape too, methinks.

Thanks for the quick response, can you give me a little bit more information please?
Which program from Majestic are you using and how?

I use SEO Majestic as well as Open Site Explorer. Go try out the free program, and see what you think.

New to Moz and wanted a bit of help with my report
Hi, I have used the MOZ report to analyse one of my friends sites and I wanted to query a few warnings it highlighted and I just wanted people's thought on how important they thought these were: The first is dupliate descriptions/titles. This is mainly down the e-commerce pages. Fist duplicate content:

On some pages the description is identical and all that is different is the title and picture, is this an issue? Duplicate pages:
Due to the way the website folder structure/catergories has been created some pages are identical but because the product comes under 2 cetergories there is 2 seperate pages, should we use the canonical on one of the pages? Also regarding the canonical tag, they have put link rel="canonical" on every page and got it to point at itself, so not really being used in the way it is meant to be. Could something like this cause any harm? The final thing is internal linking back to the homepage. If for example the homepage is http://www.test.com, when linking back is it best to put the full URL over "index.html" even though they are the same page? Any help really appreciated Dan0 -
Half of my backlinks just disappeared!
I was just starting to feel like I was getting traction and all of a sudden half of our external backlinks just disappeared! Over the past 4 months we've taken our total external links from about 2500 to 6500 and with the lastest report, we seem to have lost more than half and are now around 2100. Our domain authority has dropped accordingly too. I realize that backlinks aren't forever but what in the heck could cause you to loose over 4000 in a one month period? eK9w

Adding LinkedIn to the new Social Media tool
I am loving the new Social Media data that SEOMoz recently added. I am sure more will come soon, but I wondering if they have plans of adding LinkedIn Company pages as apart of a campaign to track. Does anyone have the inside clue about this? Do you think it would be a good idea as well?

Backlink confusion
I've gotten confused when it comes to the Competitive Analysis Report in the Web App. I track in my own spreadsheet how many backlinks I accumulate. However, I had thought that the Competitive Analysis report would do that as well. But each month, the numbers of Total LInks- through Linking c-blocks changes up and down drastically. I clicked HELP to try and understand what each of these means, but could you please explain them to me? I was under the impression that External Followed Links are the ones I was going after, however, shouldn't my records match with the one in the web app? Somehow I went from 786 ext followed links in January, to 867 in Feb, to 804 in March, to 804 in April, then 973 in May, and dropped to 791 2 weeks later...I don't think I'm understanding how the web app calculates these numbers. And how come Domain Authority seems to fluctuate up and down? So what would be the best way to track my progress in accumulating backlinks? Would it be my own spreadsheet or do you have a tool for this? Because I'd like to see how many I've gotten since January, but don't understand how to see this in the webapp. HELP!
