Finished On Page optimization and slipping in rankings
-
Just finished on page optimization for a client that was on page 2 for the keyword. Went from an on page score of D to an A. But we are still slipping down the rankings. We were towards to top of page 2 now we are towards the bottom. Is there a time that it takes to change or does the on page not really make a big impact?

In Google Webmaster Tools you can fetch the page as googlebot and then submit the page to the google index. No guarantee that this will improve your rankings but it helps insure that Google is looking at the most updated and optimized version of that page.
In Google Webmaster Tools, go to: DIAGNOSTICS > FETCH AS GOOGLEBOT, then enter the url for the page you want crawled and click FETCH. After the url is successfully fetched it will appear in the list below the search box and a blue link next to the "Success" check mark appears with the text "Submit to index", click that and you're set.

Hi Devon,
How recently did you finish these changes? It's possible that Google hasn't even seen the changes yet and moved you down for reasons totally unrelated to this. For example, if you changed the page title or meta description, is that new title or description showing up in the search results yet? If not, chances are Google has not crawled the page recently and the changes are unrelated to your ranking change.
If yes, what elements did you change on page? Did you change the URL of your page? If you changed the URL, even if you did a proper 301 redirect right away, you may still see a temporary drop in rankings for about 1-2 weeks before it recovers and rises back up. Even with a 301 redirect and everything done perfectly, it can take some time for Google to recognize the authority of the new URL and rank it appropriately.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Best,

Google crawls sites in small pieces. Depending on the site's DA and the PA of any given page, it can take a month for your site to be fully crawled. It is normal for a web page to bounce around in SERPs, but it should settle down after a month.
There are many factors of page optimization beyond the grade in the campaign manager. It is a helpful tool which can identify various issues, but it is not complete and there are various site wide and off page factors which influence ranking.

On page makes a HUGE impact, at least from my (limited) experience...We have gotten a few backlinks over the past month, but most of what we have done is on page optimization. We've went from page 7 to 2 for our main (very competitive) keyword and we're number 1, 2, 3, 4 (or all of them) for a lot of the long tail keywords we went for.
If you haven't yet, make a sitemap (I've been using gsite crawler), then submit that to google in webmaster tools. Granted, it's taken some time....I haven't actually done very much in the last couple of weeks but we're still slowly coming up the rankings.

Moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. Should we redirect size pages into one page?
We are moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. On Bigcommerce, due to some bizarre reasoning the previous developer had 3 separate URLS for the same product in different sizes - S, M and L. Now we plan to have one product page where the sizes can be selected and 301 redirect the 3 urls to the new one. Is this advisable? Or should we just have 3 separate pages. OR should we have one of the sizes pages as the new page and then redirect the other 2 to this one? I ask this because the site has a LOT of ranking power and we do not want to jeopardise that.

What automated tools produce a number score for A) On-Page Optimization and B) Domain Exact Match?
SEOMoz Community, -I currently use SEMRush, SEOMoz Open Site Explorer and Archive.org for the other Benefit and Opposition factors. -I’ve had to manually search pages for keyword use in the title, footer & body for on-page optimization. -I’ve also manually searched Google for Domain Exact Matches. Thanks! -Andrew

On Page Optimization not updating after SSL change
Last week we changed our URLs to be only HTTPS (they were a mixture of both for a couple of weeks). We did this by adding a 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS. However, the On Page Optimization is now showing the same URL/Keyword twice for a few of our pages. One has a grade A, one has a grade B. The grade B complains about "Rel Canonical" not matching, but the other doesn't. This is pretty confusing - should it not have crawled the pages and noticed the 301 redirects and combined the entries or removed the HTTP ones?

In-page Optimization check list....
Hey, Mozzers I have a question about optimizing a web-page. I was just having a conversation with our web developer about optimizing our website and which changes would make the most difference in affecting the SERPs as far as on-page optimization goes. I was explaining to her we wanted to optimize our pages in the following levels (ranked most important to least important): <title>: key word laden </p> <p>2) <H1> : key word in <strong>bold</strong></p> <p>3) page content: keyword laden as well</p> <p>The idea was to have three or four layers of keywords on the page. I work for a real estate brokerage and the context was the actual page of the property listing. So in this case, the keywords would be the address of the property. She explained to me that the the H1 tag is more important than the title tag.</p> <p>Does this ring true with you guys?</p></title>

Home Page
We are re-design our home page, one are of the current home page has a drop down window called "popular products" . We wrote short articles for our keywords and have them linked to product page. In the past, it has helped us rank. However, with new Google rules, our feeling is that such practice is no good. So, we lean towards to remove it. Still, we'd like to hear some opinions and ask some questions too: www.butterflycraze.com is it clear to you that this is not good in Google's eyes? how do I determine if these links serving any SEO purpose now after Panda? depend on the answer to 2), what should we do about these pages? shall be re-direct or shall we remove them from Google index?
