DISQUS COMMENTS backlinks-good for seo? YES/NO?
I have just started commenting on "powered by disquus" websites in the Disqus comments box and left a link to my website in the name field!
Having googled whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good for seo purposes i have discovered that there is a 50/50 view on the subject with some people saying they are a "goldmine" for getting high PR backlinks and others saying they are a waste of time because googlebot cannot read Java.
My own experience of commenting on Disqus powered websites is that wordpress blogs powered by disqus comments ARE INDEXED by GOOGLE and the "BACKLINK IS IN THE SOURCE OF THE PAGE"
When i comment on normal websites using the Disqus comment system i have found that my Disqus comments ARE NOT indexed by Google and there IS NO BACKLINK in the page source!
Has anybody got any views on whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good?

Yes. I tried a lot through commenting to create a backlink for my post <https://grexa.ai/google-my-business-logo-size > but I failed. I commented on many sites but either comments were not showing or been held up. Could you suggest something more?

I am currently working on SEO for my <a href=”http://www.pinestatehauling.com”>junk removal business</a> and I have been commenting using the above strategy but not sure if it is working no that I read this. I literally just googled about disqus topic here which is what took me to this web page. I probably won't waster my time randomly commenting on disqus pages. What do you guys think?
-
Disqus comments probably won't bring much juice with them this is because they are a really common way to get backlinks. But I think they will pass some worth if they're counted but not as much as a backlink from a high-quality news website would. Most people can get their hands on these backlinks. Going for a more unique backlink profile shows you are not just following the everyday norms like most webmasters are.
As Chris Gregory says the comments are likely being rendered into HTML from Javascript which means that the backlink would probably only be counted if it was on a WordPress site using Disqus these are just my personal opinion and I will be doing some more research on this myself.
-
It is completely ineffective. I tried a number of different approaches to get the do-follow backlink by comments. But nothing seems to work.
I tried the following method:
<a href="https://www.live-qr.com" rel="dofollow">Live QR Code Generator</a> -
Yes should be done, there's an article on Neil Patel's blog where he makes a test and sees a difference on rankings. You should check that.
Just don't do random comments on random blogs...
-
I can't answer for Gary, but I can say I have yet to see any of my non-wordpress Disqus comments in any of my various link profies.
-
How did the Disque binge work out for you?
-
i dont think he needs to mislead, they can just not count them.
Rand recently stated that at a conference, some one asked about their website, and Matt Cutts had a look at it, he said you have about 14,000 links but we are counting only 30 of them.
Matt has said, if just anyone can get a link, then it is proabably not going to pass any value
So I just dont think that comment spam will be counted. If you found a home made comment system, you might have a chace as google may not reconize it as that, but disqus would easaly be reconized by google.
-
Alan, you didn't think that Matt Cutts is misleads all SEO experts ???
He is main enemy for SEO...
-
Hi Chris,
I only went on a "Disqus comments BINGE" about a week ago as i only discovered Disqus about a week ago.I thought i had found a great way of getting high pagerank backlinks for free!....With Facebook comments now been INDEXED by Google there is a high chance that Disqus comments will soon be INDEXED by Google i would of thought.
My website is about the online bookmakers free bets and on my matched betting forum>>> Matched betting forum i have all the online bookmakers free bet offers and so i have been looking for backlinks with a similar theme to the online bookmaker`s free bet offers and the only backlink have i seen registered with a backlink to my website is from the politicalbetting.com WORDPRESS BLOG......as he wanted £2000/year for a backlink i am pretty chuffed at getting a backlink for free lol
I will let you know if any of the other backlinks start appearing......most of them are .EDU backlinks lol
-
Gary,
I'm doing the same thing you are. If you have 100 disqus comments out there then are you seeing any of them showing up as backlinks to your site? Right now I have probably half that amount from a lot of non wordpress websites and I have yet to see one of them linking back to my site. I don't feel enough time has expired as some of these sites I'm sure it takes Google a while to crawl. However, one in particular is an NFL site that I'm sure gets crawled several times a week. None of those links are showing up.
If you aren't an SEOMoz Pro member go to Alexa or Majestic and run a link report to see if you are seeing your comments linking back.
-
When you have done your tests on the "Disqus Comments Baclinks" i would be very interested to hear your results.
I know that Matt Cutts has said that Googlebot has been recently updated so that it can now read "Facebook comments" but he has not yet declared if googlebot can read "Disqus comments"
As the "Disquus comments" DO NOT NEED MODERATION by webmasters as the Disqus comment system is set to automatically approve Disqus comments by default, then the Disqus comments system does indeed have the potential to be a SEO`s GOLDMINE as we all know how difficult it is getting webmasters to accept out links!
I have personally got 100 PR 5-9 backlinks from "DOFOLLOW" websites using the "Disqus Comments" and as my site is only 7 months old with few backlinks i am going to see if the Disqus comments backlinks have an affect on my website!
-
I have just started using Disqus and looking for "on-topic" sites that use it. None of my posts have been indexed on non-wordpress sites. I did some research and found that Disqus uses Javascript to render the comments which googlebot won't be able to read. However, it appears there are plugins in wordpress that renders the comments into HTML that can be seen when you view source. Thats probably why you see your comments being indexed on wordpress sites and not the others.
I'm still testing this myself and would like to hear from others on this topic -good or bad.
-
Since disqus comments are now being indexed... I would think they do hold value in the comment links. I personally think no-follow links do help sites rank organically. I know they don't pass page rank (green bar juice), but they do count as links. I would personally never turn down a good no-follow link on an indexed page.
-
I remember seeing a video where Matt Cutts said they were useless, I think he mentioned articles posting, blog comments and directories. He said that local and niche Directories mixed with a few quaility links still had value, the others were of no value.
honestly, I think you are wasting your time and may even be doing damage.
-
That's my opinion, too, Sebastian.
There is a pretty cool site called Inline SEO that has a do follow comment-finding-tool-thingy. You can Google it. It is a pretty useful tool!
Happy Holidays,
Jared

I see it this way: if the topic is about your webpage and you can add something valuable to the discussion then go for it, but see it as a way to build an audience and not so much links.
Even if the links are nofollowed or not indexed at all: nofollow-links are essential to a "natural" link profile, as most websites do have a number of nofollowed links (and even links from noindexed pages, which google crawls and "sees" nevertheless).
-
More then likely they are no follow, even if they are not they are very low quality links, more likely no value at all.
I would not waste my time.

Are subdomains a good seo strategy for a multistore e-commerce?
Hi there I'm wondering what is the best strategy to work with multi-stores on magento: to use or not to use subdomains? Suppose we have the www.website.com and we configure it to use multistore. The url base will not have the store id on it so it will not be like www.website.com/store1 and www.website.com/store2. It will simply rely on the user session so if we have two categories for each store it will acces using: www.website.com/category1 (for store 1) www.website.com/category2 (for store 2) The homepage will allways be set on www.website.com so we should have a single page for several "home pages" (depending on the user session / store he is accessing). I guess this is not a good option if we want to rank for different keywords (for each store). So I was wondering if it is a good solution to set: store1.website.com store2.website.com This way we have 2 "home pages" each one able to rank. Does it make sense? Is it good or bad for seo? Another option I was considering was: www.website.com (for store 1) store2.website.com (for store 2) store3.website.com (for store 3) www.website.com/blog (for blog) Can this work? Good or bad for seo? best regards

Coming soon SEO
Hi, I was wondering what is the best practice to redirect all the links juice by redirecting all the pages of your website to a coming soon page. The coming soon page will point to the domain.com, not to a subfolder. Should I move the entire website to a subfolder and redirect this folder to the coming soon page? Thanks

SEO value of InDesign pages?
Hi there, my company is exploring creating an online magazine built with Adobe's InDesign toolset. If we proceeded with this, could we make these pages "as spiderable" as normal html/css webpages? Or are we limited to them being less spiderable, or not at all spiderable?

SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
Hey guys, I'm having some issues with my wordpress blog, and I believe SEO plugin by Yoast could be the one causing it. I have set a title for my wordpress blog, and a tagline. This was set in dashboard > settings > general Under "titles and metas" > home in the plugin it says, title: %%sitename%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitedesc%%, and meta description is blank. The reports on seomoz says my title is title+meta description - making it to long (to many characters). What could be the issue here? Thanks in advance!

/~username
Hello, The utility on this site that crawls your site and highlights what it sees as potential problems reported an issue with /~username access seeing it as duplicate content i.e. mydomain.com/file.htm is the same as mydomain.com~/username/file.htm so I went to my server hosts and they disabled it using mod_userdir but GWT now gives loads of 404 errors. Have I gone about this the wrong way or was it not really a problem in the first place or have I fixed something that wasn't broken and made things worse? Thanks, Ian

Using Sitemap Generator - Good/Bad?
Hi all I recently purchased the full licence of XML Sitemap Generator (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/standalone-google-sitemap-generator.html) but have yet used it. The idea behind this is that I can deploy the package on each large e-commerce website I build and the sitemap will be generated as often as I set it be and the search engines will also be pinged automatically to inform them of the update. No more manual XML sitemap creation for me! Now it sounds great but I do not know enough about pinging search engines with XML sitemap updates on a regular basis and if this is a good or bad thing? Can it have any detrimental effect when the sitemap is changing (potentially) every day with new URLs for products being added to the site? Any thoughts or optinions would be greatly appreciated. Kris

Do Backlinks to a PDF help with overall authority/link juice for the rest of the domain?
We are working on a website that has some high-quality industry articles available on their website. For each article, there is an abstract with a link to the PDF which is hosted on the domain. We have found in Analytics that a lot of sites link directly to the PDF and not the webpage that has the abstract of the article. Can we get any benefit from a direct PDF link? Or do we need to modify our strategy?
