How can i resolve Duplicate Page Content?
-
Hello,
I have created one campaign over SEOmoz tools for my website AutoDreams.it i have found 159 duplicate page content. My problem is that this web site is about car adsso it is easy to create pages with duplicate content and also Car ads are placed byregistered users.
How can i resolve this problem?

Agreed with doc data.
A generic ad for a car is not going to help sell cars. But, an well written informative ad about the individual car will help!
Autotrader.co.uk are a great example of how to do this kind of thing well. Generic car details are only a small part of the page.
Think of ebay too, they would have hundreds, if not thousands of Dup content, but they encourage there sellers to use informative and descriptions text to help sell the products.
This is a double edged sword, improve it for the users and the SEO will follow

But if the ads are unique (just not unique enough) why would you want to use a canonical tag? You'd use that to show Google which is the prefered page but in this case, is there such a thing?
Making the pages unique will be difficult, your best bet is to try and add and/or emphasize the information that is unique.
Maybe you could change the way people place ads. Not just have the same kind of information such as make, model etc., but ask people to write a little something about how they got the car, what kind of maintenance they've had done, why they are selling it. If they write all this in their own words, you will have more unique content. Plus you can tell people that adding this information helps sell their car quicker.

Hi Francesco
The Canonical tag does usually work for similar pages, that's different pages with content which is similar enough to be classed as duplicate.
If the content can't be made unique enough, which it likely can't be as they are car ads so will be similar in content terms, then Canonicals are your best bet.
Just add authority and usefulness to the site through high quality content outside of those car ads and distribute & share that content to attract those important inbound links.

Hi Simon,
the problem is that these pages with duplicate content, in fact, are different ads but similar ads and they are inserted by different users. For example if i have 3 ads about the same make, model and version car i can have 3 pages with duplicated content, but they are 3 different pages.
Seomoz have crawled 250 pages and 157 have duplicated content problem

Hi Francesco
A good question;
Implementing Canonical Tags _(a guide here on SEOmoz) _would help you to cater for your duplicate content issue when it comes to those car ads placed by your registered users.
Also check out 6 Extreme Canonical Tricks for more advanced use of the Canonical tag, a blog post here on SEOmoz by Dr. Peter Meyers
For the rest of the site, continue to ensure that you have valuable, fresh, unique, relevant content to benefit your visitors.
Hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

Duplicate content on Places to Stay listings pages
Hello, I've just crawled our website https://www.i-escape.com/ to find we have a duplicate content issue. Every places to stay listing page has identical content (over 1,500 places) due to the fact it's based on user searches or selections. If we hide this pages using canonical tags, will we lose our visibility for each country and/or region we promote hotels? Any help on this would be hugely appreciated! Thanks so much Clair

How to choose a laptop
How to choose a desktop I believe that each guide will be great on its own and that it answers a specific question (meaning that someone looking for a laptop will search specifically laptop info and the same goes for desktop). This is why I didn't creating a "How to choose a computer" guide. I also want each guide to have all information and not to start sending the user to secondary pages in order to fill in missing info. However, even though there are several details that are different between the laptops and desktops, like importance of weight, screen size etc., a lot of things the checklist (like deciding on how much memory is needed, graphic card, core etc.) are the same. Please advise on how to pursue it. Should I just write two guides and make sure that the same duplicated content ideas are simply written in a different way?0 -
Duplicate content problem?
Hello! I am not sure if this is a problem or if I am just making something too complicated. Here's the deal. I took on a client who has an existing site in something called homestead. Files cannot be downloaded, making it tricky to get out of homestead. The way it is set up is new sites are developed on subdomains of homestead.com, and then your chosen domain points to this subdomain. The designer who built it has kindly given me access to her account so that I can edit the site, but this is awkward. I want to move the site to its own account. However, to do so Homestead requires that I create a new subdomain and copy the files from one to the other. They don't have any way to redirect the prior subdomain to the new one. They recommend I do something in the html, since that is all I can access. Am I unnecessarily worried about the duplicate content consequences? My understanding is that now I will have two subdomains with the same exact content. True, over time I will be editing the new one. But you get what I'm sayin'. Thanks!

Duplicate page content
Hello, My site is being checked for errors by the PRO dashboard thing you get here and some odd duplicate content errors have appeared. Every page has a duplicate because you can see the page and the page/~username so... www.short-hairstyles.com is the same as www.short-hairstyles.com/~wwwshor I don't know if this is a problem or how the crawler found this (i'm sure I have never linked to it). But I'd like to know how to prevent it in case it is a problem if anyone knows please? Ian

Duplicate Content - Mobile Site
We think that a mobile version of our site is causing a duplicate content issue; what's the best way to stop the mobile version being indexed. Basically the site forwards mobile users to "/mobile" which is just a mobile optimised version of the original site. Is it best to block the /mobile folder from being crawled?

Duplicate content and tags
Hi, I have a blog on posterous that I'm trying to rank. SEOMoz tells me that I have duplicate content pretty much everywhere (4 articles written, 6 errors at the last crawl). The problem is that I tag my posts, and apparently SEOMoz thinks that it's duplicate content only because I don't have so many posts, so pages end up being very very similar. What can I do in these situations ?
