Should my Facebook like button be for my Facebook page or my webpage?
-
I am curious as to people's opinion about the Facebook like button you add to a given website. It would seem with the increased influence of social media indicators that you would want to have people "like" your webpage (as opposed linking the like back to your Facebook page) when they go to your webpage, but this dilutes the number of likes you get at both Facebook and your webpage. It is my understanding that people are more likely to "like" a page that already has a lot of "likes." As most of my clients are very small businesses, this is a significant consideration as their "like" volumes are very low by default (i.e., if you only have a few hundred people who even use your business it is hard to get thousands of likes). Thanks for your opinion!

I also like the idea of adding the like button to your site. Don't forget that you can get Facebook Insights for your site as well! I wrote a post earlier in the year that talks about how to set it up: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-facebook-marketing-tactics-you-might-not-know-about. This gives you access to data regarding what people are sharing and liking on YOUR site as opposed to what's happening on your FB page.
Hope this helps!

That's exactly right, however don't forget one important detail - the OpenGraph meta tags! Facebook needs these to send the data about your page back over to Facebook.
You can get more info about the tags here

When installing the Like button, you probably want it setup to like your website page, for a couple reasons:
- This allows people to share your website page
- Facebook likes also impact search rankings
My preference is to implement a like box and +1 and maybe other social sharing buttons at the top or bottom of the content, then place a like box in the right sidebar for my facebook page.

Facebook Contests
Hey Moz Community, I've been reading some articles that Facebook no longer likes if Business Pages run contests on their Pages. I was thinking about doing something super simple with a "Like, Comment, and Share" type of an entry. Does anyone know if this is still allowed - I can't seem to find a concrete answer. Even the guidelines for Facebook seem a bit vague. I could always take the contest offline and use a landing page on my website to generate traffic but that also doesn't help with my social following. Thoughts, insights all welcome. Thanks!

Where do the Facebook star ratings come from?
I have a client whose FB page has a 5 star rating (apparently from 5 reviews) but I have no clue from where they are aggregated? I tried Google-ing for answers with no luck! Any idea? Facebook doesn't "read" pages: 206 responsecode: Could not retrieve data from URL
Hello, Since shortly, every page of our website ecoheating.be doesn't get "read" by Google. So when you paste a page in Facebook, he doesn't get the title, description, image... FB Debugger says there's a 206 Error code (check attachment). A lot of changes are done the last weeks on this site so perhaps something is misconfigured. But what could this be? I've already check the htaccess and nothing there... Thanks, 0cphxGt

Google Plus Page vs. Local
We have a google plus page here, set up as a business: https://plus.google.com/b/118361610870255631824/118361610870255631824/posts Then we also have a migrated local page: https://plus.google.com/111600136449742974371/about?gl=uk&hl=en What I would like to see ideally, is to keep the local marker so when people search through Google Maps our name still appears, but on a branded search for 'world of books' I want to see our Google+ page down the right hand side, rather than the local page currently, search for 'world of books' I want it to look the same as if I search for 'music magpie' Help!

Facebook 'SEO', Likes and Fans
I spent a bit of time this morning combing Google looking for some documentation on SEO for Facebook, specifically the value of 'likes', when liking one's status, how that effects the visibility of a given post and basically the criteria for creating whatever they deem a post to have gone 'viral'. I'm convinced there has to be some answers for my first two questions... ....somewhere. Likewise, I can appreciate if there's nothing available to answer my third question pertaining to 'viral criteria'. Nevertheless, if anyone has any resources/documentation that could provide me some insight into how FB interprets 'likes', how an increased number of 'likes' may lead to greater visibility and (more or less) the mechanics of how this interacts with the entire Facebook structure, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading, I look forward to the responses!

Promoting a Facebook Contest
Hi, Mozzers- I'm running a contest for a client of mine via Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/barrettmoving. The prizes are great an iPad2 and an iPod Touch! The contest is pretty cool too. Basically it's a papercraft / travel thing that appeals to a wide range of people. Anyway, here's my question - I've started promoting the contest via social media, the website, online contests...like to get to promoting it on relevant blogs too. I'm in the beginning stages. Any other ideas? Has anyone had luck with PPC or FB ads? Thanks in advance! LHC oVThP5PcRvo

How to pull data for number of tweets per page?
Where is it possible to find a total number of tweets by URL? So, for example, domain.com/page1.html 2 tweets domain.com/page2.html has 20 tweets, etc.
