Is there actual risk to having multiple URLs that frame in main url? Or is it just bad form and waste of money?
-
Client has many urls that just frame in the main site. It seems like a total waste of money, but if they are frames, is there an actual risk?
-
In that case I agree with Kane; the short answer is it probably doesn't 'hurt' anything, but it's most likely not helping anything either. Those domains are an investment in a way, in terms of hosting, bandwidth, code maintenance, etc. And currently that investment isn't really being used to its full potential. I don't know if it's still the case, but WayFair (née CSN Stores) used to have at least 20-30 domains 301'd to all of their major properties, usually mispellings, (name)sucks, that kind of thing.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I don't think his test justifies the assumption that the links are treated as standard links, but it appears you could certainly assume that they're passing anchor text.
I didn't see any mention of whether the iframed page was considered to be the linking page or whether the top level page was considered to be the linking page, however. I'd like to see how the link shows up in his Google Webmaster Tools, since that would be more valuable information IMO.

This thread just came out on Search Engine Roundtable today, which suggests Google may actually pay attention to content on an iframed site. I haven't had a chance to look at it in real detail yet, but it is interesting.

From what I understand, Google won't 'count' any content that is iframed on a site, so essentially Google will just see a blank page with an iframe to another site. That won't be a risk to the main domain that's in the iframe, but it's not doing anyone any good most likely.
Are they ranking for anything with these extra sites, and do they get any traffic?
I would probably see if they'll dedicate any budget & time to creating secondary sites on the better keywords, and I'd encourage them to 301 the rest. Possibly even dump some of the worse domains if they're not worth keeping, but the client might be trying to do a land grab on keywords to keep competitors out, which might be worth the annual fee to them.

@Valery, thanks for the reply. You did read it right, but I'm still looking for input on whether it's actually a risk or just a waste.
-
If I take your meaning correctly they have something like 'site.com' as their main page, but also have 'site1.com' which is just 'site.com' content in an iframe on 'site1.com'? It depends on what they're trying to accomplish I guess, but from a link juice/seo perspective that seems kind of backwards. Usually people just 301 the domains over.

Doubts about the technical URL structure
Hello, first we had this structure Categorie: https://www.stoneart-design.de/armaturen/ Subcategory: https://www.stoneart-design.de/armaturen/waschtischarmaturen/ Oft i see this https://www.xxxxxxxx.de/badewelt/badmoebel/ But i have heard it has something to do with layers so google can index it better, is that true ? "Badewelt" is an extra layer ? So i thought maybe we can better change this to: https://www.stoneart-design.de/badewelt/armaturen/ https://www.stoneart-design.de/badewelt/armaturen/waschtischarmaturen/ and after seeing that i thought we can do it also like this so the keyword is on the left, and make instead "badewelt" just a "c" and put it on the back https://www.stoneart-design.de/armaturen/c/ https://www.stoneart-design.de/armaturen/waschtischarmaturen/c/ I dont understand it anymomre which is the best one, to me its seems to be the last one The reason was about this: this looks to me keyword stuffing: Attached picture Google indexed not the same time the same url, so i thougt with this we can solve it Also we can use only the word "whirlpools" in de main category and the subs only the type without "whirlpools" in text thanks Regards, Marcel SC9vi60

Trailing Slashes on URLs
Hi everyone I have a question on trailing slashes in URL. The crux of it is this: is having both: example.com/subdirectory/ and: example.com/subdirectory on all of your subdirectories considered duplicate content by Google - or in some other way really bad? We have done a heck a lot of research into this, and it would seem...no one knows for sure (it is easy to get lost in a sea of Webmaster tool forums from 2012). Google itself has both URLs for it's subdirectories (try https://www.google.co.uk/maps and https://www.google.co.uk/maps/) as does Moz; and yet there are some rumblings on the internet of people who think you must put a 'redirect' (although not really a redirect as it isn't a 301) in your htaccess file to one or the other (so for example.com/subdirectory/ would 'forward' to example.com/subdirectory); and this is what bbc.co.uk do. We tried putting this htaccess 'forward' in as an experiment, but I noticed our site then stopped being fully crawled by Google bot, so we reversed it. Can any one shed any light?

Changing URLs
As of right now we are using yahoo small business, when creating a product you have to declare an id, when we created the site we were not aware that you will not be able to change the id but also the ID is being used as the URL. we have a couple thousand products in which we will need to update the URLs. What would the best way to be to fix this without losing much juice from our current pages. Also I was thinking that if we did them all in a couple weeks it would hurt us a lot, and the best course of action would be to do a slow roll out of the URL changes. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I have altered a url as it was too long. Do I need to do a 301 redirect for the old url?
Crawl diagnostics has shown a url that is too long on one of our sites. I have altered it to make it shorter. Do I now need to do a 301 redirect from the old url? I have altered a url previously and the old url now goes to the home page - can't understand why. Anyone know what is best practice here? Thanks

Why my ranking on google just disappeared
I have my website ranked on page one probably in top 6, but all of a sudden around 3-4 months before my website just disappeared for that keyword. Any suggestions? Keyword: Brass rod, brass rods webpage url: www.jayjalaramext.com/brass-rods/ and the website itself www.jayjalaramext.com Is it over optimized? or optimized more often which lead to bad history? or any panda or penguing effect ? Waiting for the suggestions.

Someone is redirecting their url to mine
Hello, I have just discovered that a company in Poland www.realpilot.pl is directing their domain to ours www.transair.co.uk. We have not authorised this, neither do we want this. I have contacted the company and the webmaster to get it removed. If you search for the domain name www.realpilot.pl we (www.transair.co.uk) come up top. My biggest worry is that we will get penalised by Google for this re-direct as it appears to be done using some kind of frame. Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing? Many Thanks Rob Martin
