UK based people Need your help

I'm aware that this is not SEO related, but bare with me:
Launching a new business venture and need some advise. the site will be located in the UK (for legal reasons) and since I have no experience with UK webhosts. I kinda need your help on selecting a good webhost.
Money is not importants but what is:
- excellent up times
- unlimited bandwidth
So if you could share your experiences it would be much appreciated.

If money is no object then Rackspace are your people.Not the cheapest, but there service is top notch and their Fanatical Support means that if you call you get through to a techie within 5 rings or something daft like that.
Been with them on a dedicated server for 8 years, never had any major issues.

actually I don't mind shared hosting if they can surply the bandwith that I will potentially need. Am actually looking for something like a scaleable cloud solution would be awesome.
I'm not quite sure how much traffic the site will generate yet but potentially allot. Wich is why a scaleable solution would be perfect. But I can't have the site go offline because I have exceeded the monthly bandwidth.

I don't think Rene is looking for shared hosting, his specified Bandwidth and uptime which indicates to me he is going to try and generate a lot of traffic to a the site so he needs the backup of bandwidth and uptime.
Basically he needs a dedicated server with burstable bandwidth with a hosting company that has 100% uptime.

It's only a small personal website, but I've been with 34sp for over ten years. I've never known my site to be down and on the one occasion I had a problem I e-mailed them and they got back to me within the hour. On other occasions I've contacted them their customer service has been great too - and that to a site that only costs me £18 a year. I've had a couple of problems with some corporate websites hosted on Rackspace, but I haven't personally dealt with them so can't comment on their customer service.
P.S. I don't know how reliable this site is, but it reports uptime over the last 5-6 years:

fasthosts is a no go for certain, down time every month and that's not even scheduled.
hostinguk is good, I have not seen any downtime for years, CP is on plesk and I know you dont care about it but the support is UK based and these guys actually know what there talking about, sound like x-developers running it.
Rackspace - very good, they guarantee 100% uptime but every now and then when they do server updates they go down but they schedule it for unsociable hours and a email goes out way before.
Personally if your looking for uptime id say rackspace.

probably won't need support what really interests me is the uptimes and bandwidth

Maybe you got lucky Steve, because I have also used UK2.net and the support is zero, I have called them multiple times with no answer.
Maybe im wrong but that's just what I have experienced.
Personally myself, I would say these are good:

I use UK2.net exclusively.
They offer 100% uptime Gauranteed.
In the last 3 years I have experienced 1 outage lasting about 2 hours (about 18 months ago.)
I have a reseller account which allows me Unlimited everthing.
They offer a range of services for individual domains including unlimited.
Their customer service can be less than excellent but their trouble ticket response is very good.

Migrating to a tag-driven global website - Need opinions!
We currently have a global site that is set up this way: Subfolders to designate countries. Content in same language is re-published on other country websites. Since we are re-launching at the end of the year, we are doing away with re-publishing content on different country sites and will just maintain a single copy of our content (to be populated on different pages using content tags). We are planning on doing this so that there is no need to apply href-lang tags on our content. My questions: Is maintaining just a single instance of an article good for a global website? What are the possible complications that may come up from this approach? Since there is only one version of the article that is being indexed, is a rel-canonical tag even needed? Should href-lang tag still be applied to high level pages (homepage, etc) to ensure that the correct homepage shows up in the appropriate geography? This question is quite long, so any feedback will be helpful. Thanks!

JavaScript IP-based redirection, best approach?
Hi everyone, What are the best practices for implementing Javascript redirections like on http://www.nike.com/ to send visitors to the right country section? I see it uses cookies and sessions to store the country and language, but what about search engines? Are they redirected via JS? Are there any risks that Google can't crawl everything? We had IP-based, server-side redirections on a few country-specific websites (purehazelwood.com, purnoisetier.fr, purnoisetier.com) that we had to remove because googlebot was always redirected to the US site and couldn't access the other sites. We instead added pop-ups if the visitor is accessing the "wrong" site but we'd like the redirection to be automatic. Is the javascript approach the best? Anything else we need to think about? If I redirect based on IP will Google still crawl my international sites if I implement Hreflang
We are setting up several international sites. Ideally, we wouldn't set up any redirects, but if we have to (for merchandising reasons etc) I'd like to assess what the next best option would be. A secondary option could be that we implement the redirects based on IP. However, Google then wouldn't be able to access the content for all the international sites (we're setting up 6 in total) and would only index the .com site. I'm wondering whether the Hreflang annotations would still allow Google to find the International sites? If not, that's a lot of content we are not fully benefiting from. Another option could be that we treat the Googlebot user agent differently, but this would probably be considered as cloaking by the G-Man. If there are any other options, please let me know.

Is this hurting our SEO: company1.uk.com, company1.ru.com, company1.de.com, etc...?
Hello I work for a company which is using this kind of subdomains, that look like domains such as company1.uk.com, company1.ru.com, company1.de.com, but they are obviously not. We also own company1.com where the main site in English lies. We are one of the leader portals in one financial sector, and I am wondering if our SEO can be hurted by these fake "domains". I understand that we get some effect from the other domains hosted under this domain, and they are probably not as high quality as ours and they are probably unrelated. **- Would you recommend us to stop using these and use subdomains? So change: "company1.de.com" and use "de.company1.com" instead? Should we expect an increase in traffic after this change?** Any help will be appreciated.

Moving British site to the US... who will have .com? US or UK?
We are the UK's first baby social commerce site launched in Nov 2011. We're doing quite well and are looking at expanding to the US. However I'm not sure what advice you'd give me in terms of internationalising the site. I see three options on how to deal with the URL structure? Make US site as .com as it will be my main source of revenue for the long run and redirect all British traffic to .co.uk Have .com for both UK and US but have the URL as either: us.babyhuddle.com or as babyhuddle.com/us/. Same thing for the UK Another option? Would love to hear the feedback from you guys. Thanks, Walid

New web design targeting UK & France
Hi I have a couple of topics I would like to clarify. My existing website is on .ie & we are now expanding into France & UK We have decided to take the route of example.com with subfolders for example.com/ie example.com/uk & example.com/fr just like thishttp://app.wistia.com/stats/278112 provided by SEOmoz Should we 301 redirect our existing .ie site to the .com or the .com/ie? When building links should links be built to .com or each .com .com/fr etc Also are there any good resources out there about International SEO? Thank you 🙂

Ranking well in Google US but not showing up in UK
Hi, We are trying to position a specific site for a big sport event that will be played at the end of May. We only care about Google UK. It had no relevant content until last week. The site is a almost a year old but we just started to get links for it (all from the UK). They worked so fast: we were in page 2 of SERPs in the UK within a few days. But suddenly the site has disappeared and we're not even in top 100 anymore. However, we are ranking extremely well in the US (first page for the keywords we wanted to rank for). The site is a .com and it's hosted in Wordpress.com (with a custom URL). I understand that that can be a problem, but we have already told Google that our business is in the UK through Webmaster Tools. I guess that with time and more UK links, Google would ultimately understand that our focus is the UK audience, but unfortunately we have no time and we can't wait due to the date of the sport event. What do you think that we can do to rank well in the UK and not in the US as fast as possible? Thanks!
