You can try SEMrush to get possible competitors keywords, although I hear you shouldn't trust the data 100% but it could give you some ideas.
You can also run the domain through Google AdWords tool and see what words it suggests.

PS - Look at their meta keywords tag. The tag does nothing, but most people don't realize that and put their keywords in there anyway.

on the site i shown you, it is part news but then mostly holiday reviews and ideas, travel advice, it is only very small amount of travel news.
My site, the home page, i want to focus on holiday news, about travel agents, good deals etc and then other parts of the site i will focus on cheap deals, travel reviews, uk holidays etc

Diane,
You have asked a great question as it is one that is regularly asked and it points out a common error we all make when looking at a competitor's site. Thanks.
You said, "i would like to know what keywords they are using to gain traffic and i would like to know what tools i need to use to research how they are achieving great success with google." There are two things here: first what keywords they are using to gain traffic and, second _what tools you need to use to research how they are achieving great success with Google. _
On keywrds they are using to gain traffic, I would say they are using travel and review (I simply looked at the page and then used the mozBar to look at meta, title tags, url , etc. You could also use the term extractor from SEOmoz.
On tools to research how they are succeeding with Google, I am going to ask that you keep this private (and anyone who reads it as well) because it is a proprietary methodology that I have developed but will share with you. I call the tool - my eyes. Yes, my eyes. I look at the page and see what someone else sees. When I look at this page and then at yours, yours is a travel site and theirs is a news site with fresh content, not cramped, real stories, etc. So, they have made a travel site into a source of information and there is no blatant, in-your-face this deal or that deal. They are not worried about how many times a given keyword is used and that is smart. They simply report happenings, etc. the first two things I saw when I opened the page were: A solitary polar bear and a nipple. In no way was this a screaming travel site.
So, term extractor and my eyes are the only tools I would use for this.
Best,

I'm new to seomoz as well but I believe this is what you want: http://www.seomoz.org/term-extractor in order to find out the targeted terms.
Discover information about backlinks with http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/. Choose to filter the results down to just external links as it is no surprise that telegraph pages will contain highly valuable internal links.

Moz Pro Tools
Hello I ran into a error while using Moz Pro Tools Crawl Site feature. Stating that my wordpress website could not be crawled. When contacting moz they sent me this screenshot stating the reason for this error is because of the odd ip address highlighted in yellow. Only time I've seen this particular ip-address is during local development. If anyone has any advice on how to fix this or what may have caused this issue. I feel this maybe effecting the site's overall search visibility. ednqnL7

Open Site Explorer Social Media?
Open Site Explorer always reports only a few facebook likes. If I go to the business page of the site, it has 100+ likes. This seems to happen a lot. Is this a OSE issue or is there an issue with the site clearly being defined to google as a connected facebook account? If OSE doesn't see the likes, will google? How can I fix?

Is Keyword Difficulty an absolute measure, or relative to my site?
We were able to rank very well for a specific keyword. After signing seomoz I've figured out that this keyword has a difficulty of 1%. All the other similar keywords I've researched have difficulties greater than 20%. Is the Difficulty related to my site? Or is it absolute?

OPen Site Explorer listing criteria?
Checking link data for a potential client who has given me access to their websmaster tools account, I've noticed that Google list over 150,000 "Links to Your Site" but yet OSE only reports a tiny fraction of this number.

I have manually verified that there are in fact direct links from the sites that are listed in Webmaster Tools but not in OSE. Does OSE discard some links? Is there a reporting lag? Does anyone know why there would be such a large discrepancy?0 -
Is the keyword difficulty tool the most helpful in all situations?
I understand that the scores it generates are essentially based on the difficulty of appearing on the first SERP for the keyword in question. That said, I am having a lot of difficulty finding keywords in my niche which return a score that would make this easily achievable for a site of my size.... The reason I'm pointing this out is because theoretically, a keyword could have a HIGHLY competitive first SERP, with a significant drop-off on the second SERP, which would make achieving a top ranking on that page substantially easier. So my question really is, is the importance of appearing on the first SERP so unequivocally important that it is a pointless activity to attempt deliberately to rank for keywords on the second SERP, which is ignored by the keyword difficulty tool? I know the breakdown of clicks goes something like 40% for top spot, 12% for second and downwards from there, but if a certain query has over a million searches per month, for example, it would still be possible to get considerable amounts of traffic by trying to rank highly on the second SERP, which the keyword difficulty tool cannot help with. So is this really a useless activity?

A tool for seeing all the keywords a website ranks for
As title, is there a tool out there that will allow you to see all the keywords a website ranks for in the first few pages of a particlur search engine? I would be particularly interested for keywords in the first 10 pages of Google. Thanks
