How often does Google crawls old pages, is it worth to get links from them ?

Let's say there's a blog post in my industry niche that's 2 years old. Is it worth to get a link from that blog post ? How do I know Google will actually re-crawl that page, and how long can that process take ?

I would think it would depend on the age of the article and whether or not people were actively linking to that. So even the old article, if all of a sudden people started linking to it (like a bio for a actor when there is suddenly news about him) it would become relevant again and likely good. If it is only a couple of months old, I think it would be more worthwhile than something that is 2 years old.

Your answer was excellent, but let's increment the discussion: what if the article is from 2-3 months old ? Is it "as worthless" link as a 2-years old blog post ?

Based on the recent White Board Friday by Cyrus Shepard and Tim Grice's SEO WIZ post, I would say it is near worthless.
To some degree, for me it is counter-intuitive. But, I have to believe with QDF, etc. that a link from new content is better than an equivalent link from old content. When you speak of an old blog post (two years old), unless there is something happening with it recently I would move on to greener pastures.

SPAMMY links to my search results page
Hi, I have a big problem, somehow someone has built THOUSANDS of SPAMMY links to my site's search result pages with keywords that does not even make sense or inline with the site. Links are dofollow and goes to /?s=TERM see the for yourself https://analytics.moz.com/pro/link-explorer/inbound-links?site=https%3A%2F%2Fhealthtian.com See image https://imgur.com/a/fahetyZ Please is there a way to BLOCK all at once? i feel these links are impacting on my site. Reciprocal links now cancel out any benefit say Google. But what about if one of them is nofollow?
As a web agency we have some of our client sites linking back to us from their footer to show who built the site as is common practice in our industry. This seems to work fine for us generating both referral traffic and we think some help with rankings. Google recently said that reciprocal links do cancel each other out of any benefit which gives us a dilemma for when we want to link to a website as a case study on our own website. Normally we use nofollow on the link but is that enough? I'd rather have the inbound link benefit than provide a link to the website!

Is it worth pursing PR and guest posting just for links?
I'm still new to SEO, but I have a decent foundation on it. To me, it seems like guest posting and earning PR on quality sites is good for the coverage, but will those one-off links really make a difference? I'd have to assume that SEOs earn their worth when they build scalable links (i.e. tools that people link to, guides, etc) So, while PR is nice, I feel as if I shouldn't focus my time there, but spending time on building a product such as QuickSprout.com's SEO audit tool, Cappex's college match tool, CNN's budget calculator, Moz's google weather report, etc.

Best way to get over the Hump (from page 2 to page 1)
Hello, I've recently been able to bring my site way up in the rankings for some very competitive keywords. I've done nothing spammy, and everything has been done with a lot of detail and a focus on only using the best techniques. My site is on page 2 for a lot of keywords. What would be your suggestions for getting over that hump and making it to page 1? I'm happy with my results (coming from pages 30-50 to page 2 over a couple of months) but I'm not satisfied and won't be until I can be on the top of page 1... Any suggestions are welcome... Thanks

Group of small business owners links to each other. Do they get slapped for Private Blog Network?
I realize this is a far cry from BuildMyRank. But say this partially hypothetical groupl is a business chamber of commerce group. 30 businesses with modest sites (few links). They do their best to consistently exchange links back and forth. Nothing to abusive and some relevancy with respect to anchor links (lawyer give the accountant a plug when discussing minimizing taxes on his blog). Are these "little guys" heading for trouble? If not, when do you cross the line and face BuildMyRank type issues?

Can changing our links page make our rankings drop through the floor?
Hi all, When I first started at my current job, most of the link building (aside from submitting to free directories left, right and centre) was replying to every spammy reciprocal email and adding them to our links page! Now we're all a bit wiser about such matters (thanks SEOMoz!), I want to get our links page turned into something actually useful. My plan was to get it neatly categorised, with recommendations, cut out unrelated links that would be useless to visitors and call it something like "Our Friends" I thought this might be useful for future link building efforts, but in its current state, it's a complete mess. However, I am worried about cutting out a lot of links if they have been reciprocal ones. Are the sort of sites that would be sending typical spammy link exchange emails for window installation in NY likely to notice our UK education site taking away their link six months later and take away ours? If they do, will losing links from these sites harm us? Perhaps more importantly, is my plan a terrible idea in the first place? Look forward to hearing from y'all!

Link building? I really dont get it is there an easy way
I Have been using a link exchange website called linkmarket. I have been told that these kind of website dont really do you many favours but i have signed up for a year so i am currently still using it. What does everyone think? Also is there a proven way to get high quality links with out spending hours traling other websites and asking if they want to exchange links because the normall answer i get is NO!
