How long until Social Spam achieves the same notoriety/problem as Link Spam used to be
-
What are people's thoughts on whether or not social spam will become a major problem soon, just like forum profile/blog comment spam, etc, and what do you think the search engines will do about companies that are blatantly gaming the social signals game
I.E. since social proof seems to be google's answer to combating anchor text manipulation and content farms, what do you think will be google's answer to combating the rampant social spam that will surely overtake us.

Maybe they will analyse how many links are put into social posts? If someone just posts with links in them it will treat them as spam. Also I think search will look into sharing how many times something is shared/re-shared/re-tweeted etc? It's a numbers game as Dr Pete said is his last video you have to try and stay ahead as google made 600+ changes to search last year....

Greetings Champions!
I have given this issue a large amount of thought and the best solution I can think of, is something of the nature of Klout score will be used to determine social Authority. I feel that in the very near future Google will start analyzing social aspects and judge activity, audience, and things of that nature to balance out the social spam. This is just my theory on the situation, but I feel it would be very effective, because the other day I saw a G+ account with nothing but keywords in the description and a link to the website that showed up page 1 rank 1 for a keyword set. Like I said these are just my theories on how it will be handled in the future, Good luck on your quest Sir Ilya of Elbert!

I would imaging that Google will rely on profile authority (how many people "like", "tweet" and "plus one") things they share. The new Page Rank of social profiles almost. Then will come the paid mentions (just like paid links) and all that garbage.

I Use them 100%, but The 5-star review system is archaic
The 5-star review system is archaic. Let me first say that 5-star reviews are a successful part of my eCommerce strategy and also everyone I know that is successful as well. Why are they out of date? When you look at something with a total of 400 four-stars reviws on Amazon, what does that tell you? Almost nothing if you don't read why it was not 5 stars. It could be something Amazon automatically fixes and you don't care about. Thus it's 5 stars. It could be an issue you really care about. It's now more like 3 stars or the real 4 stars. Different products have different types of things that cause less stars, not always obvious, good, or bad. Thus I propose a new system, one that you can read the rating and know what it means. It's called 3-Levels 5-Stars. It would vary per industry. For shoes it would be, like: Walking Shoe Sold Online 1. Matches Fantasy of Style I want: 1-5 2. Logistics Like cost and if it was broken on arrival: 1-5 3. Usability, Usefulness, Durability: 1-5 The goal is for 80% of the people to not have to look any farther than the three-level five-star system. Otherwise, everybody has to read every four-star review to know for sure what's up with that product. Same with 3 stars. 4 and a half stars. Just expand the little 5-star thing the world's got going to include three categories. You could also have a variation statistic for those that don't know that 4 reviews isn't a big enough set not to have variation in outcome, but that's only an extra addition.

Links to Social Media accounts, rel=nofollow/follow and rel=me
Hi guys, I just saw this rel="me" attribute and I can't find any reputable recent (within last year) information. I never heard of this and wonder if it's any beneficial in any way. At the same time, should I use nofollow or follow on links from website to social accounts? I've heard different opinions but, again, no recent relevant and trustworthy information. Please, kick me into right direction. However, when kicking, please give me some proof, rather than thoughts 🙂 Thanks!

What percentage of linking root domains is safe for guest posting
Hello, From what I've been experiencing and learning lately, link building seems to be good only in moderation and content marketing - stellar targeted authoritative content - attracting links and pushing it on social channels seems to be much safer. My question is, high quality guest posting - quality sites with good anchor text profile 3+ PR (hopefully more) and one link back from the body of the content to the home page or an article you're pushing - seems good but only in moderation. For high quality guest posting, what would you recommend our percentage of linking root domains to allocating to guest posting. I'm looking for a safe percentage that will hopefully not get devalued any time soon, and any additional advice on making this a good long term balanced strategy. Thanks.

Competitor has 50 linking root domains, 2500 facebook likes
Hello, A competitor of ours is ranking way higher than you would expect. They have very few links, half the DA and homepage PA of us, yet they rank several slots higher. On analysis, the only difference seems to be that they have 2500 facebook likes. Did they buy likes? Have you seen anything odd like this before? Thanks.

Best Link Building Agencies in Australia
Hi all, I'd like to ask the community to recommend some great agencies that specialise in large scale link building (enterprise level), especially around link baiting & social linking. Would like to avoid the traditional paid links and have someone who's innovative in their approach. If you've had experience with any of them, would be great to hear your experiences. Thanks.

How does SEOMoz Code its Social Badge on Blog
On the blog section (and most other pages of the site) there is a social badge on the right hand side of the page where it shows the number of followers on Twitter, FB fans, etc. How does SEOMoz pull those numbers? It seems like its not using the normal Javascritps supplied by FB and Twitter, Feedburner. Thanks

Outsourcing social media optimization
Is it a good idea to outsource social media optimization or is it something that has to be done in-house? I understand the question is kind of vague, but what I had in mind was to have an offshore contractor post daily about individual products and try to increase our following on twitter/facebook (i.e "social footprint").
