Are These Types of Links Tracked
-
I have a client that is looking to be listed on a group of directory sites for the service that they offer. After reviewing the site I found that they have a unique way of listing their links, check out one example at http://www.lakidsguide.com/Summer_Camps.php#educational where each title is a link that goes to the client website. IF you look at the first listing for Adventure Treks the link actually goes to http://www.lakidsguide.com/linktrack.php?type=listingionid=33&bid=9391&listingid=10176 and then is redirected to their true website at http://adventuretreks.com/. Would this link be picked up by Google and the other engines as a link from lakidsguide.com to adventuretreks.com with the way they are directing the link to their own tracking page first? To me it seems that the engines would not see any outgoing link and therefor the listing would not give the client any benefit as far as SEO is concerned.
Any input?

I dont think the like has its value dissolved.
it is a follow link, google concern is not passing link juice, they dont want you to be able to link to someone without costing link juice,.
If it is follow and it can be folowed, meaning it does not have a redirecet page blocked by robots, then it will pass link juice. see what Matt Cutts says

Though the link itself has it's SEO value dissolved, consider the link may still hold value as a "citation" if trying to rank in Google Places for say "summer camp [city]" in a city or region that does trigger places results if there are lots of summer camps.

These links are followed by Google noe days as they now follow javascript links.
It was my belief that they did this so they did not pass link juice and so wee of no value, but I believe that if they are followed by google as they are now, then they will pass link juice.

Ryan is correct in that redirects are not the ideal kind of link - and the reason they're redirecting in this case is most likely for tracking purposes.
However, you need to check the server response code in these cases.
A 301 redirect is a "permanently moved" response, and these will pass link juice (not 100% of it, but better than nothing).
In this case, the server is responding with a 302 "temporarily moved" status. **This will pass no ranking value. **
In this case, the link has no SEO value - and I would evaluate it purely on the traffic it generates.
There are an array of tools out there for checking server response codes - I use this one: http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/check-server-headers-tool/
Here's the server response I got for the link you've referenced above:
<dt>SERVER RESPONSE:</dt>
<dd>
HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2012 13:23:23 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.28 (Unix) mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.8 mod_ssl/2.8.15 OpenSSL/0.9.7a X-Powered-By: PHP/4.4.8 Location: http://adventuretreks.com/ Content-Type: text/html
</dd>

These redirect type of links are for tracking purposes on the side of the referring website- which are usually systematically generated by the CMS platforms they have.
In short, no, these are not the high value direct SEO links that you are looking for. However, search engines are able to follow these links and also follow the redirect to the website (adventuretreks.com in this case), but at that point is of little SEO value and gets tracked as a referral type of link.
If you are paying for these listings (which i assume you would be to a degree) you would need to evaluate the value of that link based on the traffic it would send, and not the SEO value it gives you.

Better to place linked-back article or post article and seek multiple links?
Which option is better for SEO purposes: 1. Author article for trade journal in return for link back to my home page. 2. Post article on my site and solicit links from multiple sites. Assume links all have moderate authority.

Should I Pay For Link Removal?
Hi, I'm in the middle of a link removal campaign and getting a lot of replies from site owners asking for payment or directing me to a link which is effectively a payment page. The way I see it is my client is paying me to do their SEO. I'd rather be spending my time and their money building quality links, therefore the link removal process is in my way and requests for payment an insult. However, I am not without sympathy for site owners being expected to remove links free of charge. After all there's absolutely no incentive for them. So far I've had a zero tolerance attitude towards this and refused to pay, but just wondered what everyone else's opinion was. On the other hand, many site owners have been very helpful and removed the links at my request. Is it the right thing for me to remove these domains from my Disavow Links file? I'm finding it to be a bit of a moral conundrum to be honest!

Link Building - Affiliate Link Programs
I'm getting some conflicting information when researching this... I want to create the most organic link building strategy that not only gets high authority sites linking to a website, but relevant websites. I'm creating an affiliate link program where I link to partner and affiliate companies, who in turn link back to me. The question is where to put these links. I was initially thinking of putting them in the footer so they add credibility to every page, and in turn ask my affiliates to do the same thing. However; some sources say that Google no longer looks at links in the footer section. Is it true that Google doesn't count links in footer sections? And do you have any tips on creating this Affiliate Link Program?

Link Pharming
My company has been using an SEO company for a while and have built up our pagerank to a 6. However, we have noticed that they're involved in link pharming - they're buildng extra websites and linking to our site on them. We are not happy with this as we know it will only be a matter of time before Penguin hits us. The contract with the SEO company is coming up for renewal soon and we're thinking of cancelling it. However, we are not sure if the company will delete all our backlinks, which will probably decrease our PageRank too. Has anyone here ever had a similar experience? What did the SEO company do when you cancelled the contract? Does anyone here work for an SEO company and what do you do when someone cancels your service?

Favorite Ways to Track Your Links?
Hi Mozzers! I'm trying to streamline my company's link building process, and I've noticed we don't have a great way of tracking /measuring our inbound links yet. Obviously methods like Open Site Explorer are great for getting a big-picture view of inbound links, but do you guys use other methods for measuring your link building campaign? What are they? Thanks!

Link values
I have an interesting question, it's more to see other peoples opinions than looking for an exact answer, as I know noone can give that. If you had a good link on harvard.edu.. how many very low quality links on low DA domains that are full of junk, would you need to match the harvard link... if all other factors were equal. I'm gonna go for 500.. I've had great results with a few high DA/trust links. I'm not looking for anyone to give me a definative answer, just curious as to the views of other SEOs 😄
