Page hidden in SERPs
-
As well as unique content, we carry press releases (contracts with PR companies)
Some pages don't show up in SERPs - but sometimes a few or even hundreds of other sites do.
At the end of the search, google shows this:
In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 109 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included. When the search is repeated, using that link, the page often shows up in the top 10 or top 20.
I believe this is a site problem, not a page problem.
We are often one of the first to publish the release.

Thank you Kane.
Yes we are hosting them.
We've been doing that since 2005.
We do that for business readers.
What google is ging now, is showing the front page of our site in results, or index pages. But those are useless for searchers, because by the time they find them, they have probably gone off the index page and they are back a page or two from there.
I have never understood why google would choose to display an index page - on any site - rather than show the page with the whole content. It didn't make any sense to me in 2005 and it still doesn't.
Often, if you go to the end of the search and redo it, with the missing results shown, the story page shows up, above the index page that was displayed.
I just watched a story come in. within 1 minute, it was in google, from 1 other site and the originator. Within 2 more minutes, our front page was there, but not the story page. Within 3 minutes, the story page was in the index, but hidden. Then many more came in from other sites. After 15 more minutes, our index page was ranked 10. The story that came out first on another site was ranked 11 - and now their page is hidden too.

After seeing your actual domain, I see what's going on - you're hosting the press release content, I though you were the company releasing the press releases.
This is a clear cut case of duplicate content. You have great domain authority in the 80s, but you're pitting exact duplicate content against the likes of Bloomberg.com (DA 100), CNBC.com (DA 93), and Yahoo Finance (DA 100). Unfortunately, they're going to win that contest every time, UNLESS you can find a way to make your content more unique, such as adding relevant content to each press release in a useful way.
Frankly, that's going to be hard to implement well on an automatic basis. Unless the press release companies are paying you well to host all of this content, or it's somehow valuable to your other readers, I'd say it might be hurting more than helping. I'd even be worried about Panda effects from hosting that much duplicate content. Can you track your traffic drop off to a specific day in your analytics software? That might help pinpoint if you are indeed being penalized.
All of that said, I don't typically work with larger news sites hosting that much content, so there could be other ways to leverage that content that I'm not aware of.

Thank you Kane.
We have contracts with all of those press release companies - have had most of them since 2005.
I actually deleted 1.5 million of them about 4-8 months ago - because we didn't get any traffic on them in the past year.
Some of the people who put out the press releases link to them at NewsBlaze.
When I do that search for some of them, google doesn't list us (they used to - for every single one, and we used to rank in the top 10, - sometimes even above much more powerful sites - we didn't do anything to make that happen, it just did.
Sometimes, even if we are first to publish one of them(after the PR company) they don't list us, but they list other sites that came after us, even sites that are crap. Even sites that take just a snippet and then link to us or any of the other sites.
If it is solely because it is similar to other content, why does google sometimes list dozens to hundreds of other sites, but push us into "supplementaries" or whatever they are called now? - especially when we are first with them. That part of the system is automated, as are all the other sites, but we are usually within 1-2 minutes of them being published by Buinesswire, PRnewswire etc.
We used to get 20,000 readers per day from google. Now it is 3,500 per day. It is like a cap.

Sounds like you're getting bounced from the SERPs because your content is very similar to other content.
I clicked on the link in your question, not sure if you put it there on purpose or accidentally. Frankly, the reason all of those press release sites like Yahoo Finance and CNBC and Bloomberg.com are ranking ahead of your main domain for the exact term is because they are way more important sites.
If I'm correct that you're wondering why Y_ _ _Companies.com isn't ranking at the top for the exact search term used in the Press Release, don't worry about that, that's not the goal of a press release.
Your site is ranking for the exact name of your company, which is good, and it's getting links from all of those press release re-listings, which is also great.
Content stricken out is not relevant to question, see below
Not sure if that gets to the heart of what you were trying to ask, let me know if not.

Traffic to blog home page is going down after changing my WordPress Theme
I recently changed my wordpress theme from a standard free theme to a newer theme. The home page I switched up a bit adding more calls to action to some of our top posts and leading people to popular categories and so on. This greatly improved the usability of our site as it allowed us to highlight new posts. The previous free template simply listed 10 of our most recent posts on a page with small snippets and then you had to move to the next page to keep reading. Since switching my theme the blog traffic has stayed relatively level. That being said, the specific posts traffic is going up a lot whereas the organic traffic to the blog homepage is now nearly depleted. Is this a common thing to happen or is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

How do I fix a broken link to a product category page in wordpress?
We are building a new site currently at http://67.222.109.48/~cheapnan/ I started doing some SEO after the developer I hired failed to do it even though it was in the agreement. I did our old site so I should be able to do this but I am new to wordpress. Now when i go to the products tab at the top of the page the first 2 have broken links, I checked the rest and there are 3 total that I need to fix. I am unsure how to access the navigation so I can fix the links. Please tell me where to look.

Multiply pages of similair subject not showing up in serps?
Hi, I have a website with a lot of similair subjects. Its a website with around 1000s pages.
Content Development | | vulonl
For example this website is about "cars" so I wrote a pages about: Green classy cars
Green cars for the summer
Green car show 2013 What happens is that on the query of "Green car show". The page green classy cars shows up. I have the feeling that google takes one page about a similair subject and only put on in the serps. I checked this on multiply pages and this seems the case. If I search on exact "Green car show 2013" + MY URL, still then its shows indexed but only position 4. Places 1,2,3 shows again other pages of my website with similair subject. Now my feeling says the other pages have more authority and thats why they show up higher. But then...again now all the content Im adding it isnt showing up.. The last months I added around 300 pages and I did not got one visitor more daily and I have the feeling it is because it are all similair pages and google does not want to show them. My question is: Is their something I can still make them show up? Because they do have all 100% unique content and 100% unique images they only have similair subjects. or Is their some way I can tell Google that his are really different pages, so this would maybe help?0 -
Does Google really ignore Noindex pages?
Assume I may have some pages of my site that don't have a lot of text on them, and I have to keep them on the site. Let's say there are no more than 50 like this out of 400 great pages, and the ratio of great-to-short pages continues to increase. If I no index the short ones, will Google really ignore them in search? Will they ignore them enough to not downrank my site due to the short, noindexed pages? I know, theoretically, they are supposed to ignore them, but I don't always trust all the rules.

Duplicate Pages Different Content
Will duplicate pages different content hurt rankings/seo E-commerce Site is plugin style with WYSIWYG editor allowing for full customization, all pages are setup with basic default content. Ive created custom pages with content/keywords to begin seo on them I have two pages www.domain.com/sports/hockey and www.domain.com/nhl-tickets The first url is default, with a single H1tag, + Default Meta+Title tags, the second is the content rich page, and structured properly, both of which show up on the site, should I block the first url from displaying at all? The reason I am asking is because ive also setup breadcrumb links, which makes all of these category url's accessible on the site, I cannot edit breadcrumb links, we can either have them there or remove them. Thank you Very Much!!

Should I put the date on a new content page to show users when it was written or updated?
I've been asked this question at work and not certain of the answer. Personally if I see an 'old' date in a meta description on Google I often scan for more recent articles. In other words it can act as a deterrent. We are a very big social networking site with a large content section. For some of our content the date might be relevant, such as legal information, but often it isn't. Are there any SEO factors in dating content?

Is putting introduction to new stories on the front page a good idea
Hi, i am trying to find out if i should be putting all the introduction to new stories on the front page of my magazine www.in2town.co.uk. I am not sure if to just put certain stories on the home page or if it would be better for seo reasons to put everything on the front page for the search engines to pick it up quickly. so for example, all health stories, all news stories and all lifestyle stories that have their own section, should i make sure that they all appear on the home page as an introduction. Or should i have them kept in their own section please do let me know
