User experience regarding dulpicate content and managing this content with google.

Hi long title i know!
We are moving on to magento and have chosen to allocate a specific colour to each category using corresponding tabbed navigation for user experience. All products within each of the coloured tabs then inherit the repective colour, giving the products a category identiy within the store. This layout has had a positive feedback from our "testers"
As a lot of our products are seasonal and can be represented in different categories there is a significant amount of duplicate content.
ATM i see our options as being:
- Alter the site structure so that the category is not shown in the url, therefore eliminating our duplicate products. The downside of this is that the colour co-ordination of the categories would not work at product level as its the category path that assigns the colour.
- create canonical links for every duplicate, can this be damaging?
- keep the duplicates and do nothing let google decide the most important version of a product.
any guidance would be appreciated!

There was a problems with Q&A over the weekend and this question seems to have posted several times!

Eliminate option 3.
Either of your first two options should work. You should be able to re-write your URL's and eliminate the category but still use the category variable to alter your color scheme.

Best practices for publishing sponsored content
Hello, Our website hosts sponsored content from different brands. Should we be listing the sponsor either on the frontend and/or through markup? - Would either way have any sort of an impact? The content itself is already clearly marked as 'sponsored content' but we were more interested in listing the specific sponsor. Also, we’re assuming the outbound links would need to be marked rel="sponsored" but are there any other best practices we should be implementing? Any insight would be appreciated.

Duplicate content in Shopify reported by Moz
According to Moz crawl report, there are hundreds of duplicate pages in our Shopify store ewatchsale.com. The main duplicate pages are:
On-Page Optimization | | ycnetpro101
https://ewatchsale.com/collections/seiko-watches?page=2
https://ewatchsale.com/collections/all/brand_seiko
(the canonical page should be https://ewatchsale.com/collections/seiko-watches) https://ewatchsale.com/collections/seiko-watches/gender_mens
(the canonical page should be https://ewatchsale.com/collections/seiko-watches/mens-watches) Also, I want to exclude indexing of pages URLs with "filter parameters" like https://ewatchsale.com/collections/seiko-watches/color_black+mens-watches+price_us-100-200 Shopify advised we can't access our robots.txt file. How can we exclude SE crawling of the page URLs with filter names?
How can we access the robots.txt file?
How can we add canonical code to the preferred collection pages? Which templates and what codes to add? Thanks for your advice in advance!0 -
Ecommerce product page duplicate content
Hi, I know this topic has been covered in the past but I haven't been able to find the answers to this specific thing. So let's say on a website, all the product pages contain partial duplicate content - i.e. this could be delivery options or returning policy etc. Would this be classed as duplicate content? Or is this something that you would not get concerned about if it's let's say 5-10% of the content on the page? Or if you think this is something you'd take into consideration, how would you fix it? Thank you!

What to do with repetitive content
Hi, I recently took over a site from another SEO firm. They created lots of articles targeting the same terms. The articles aren't bad but I fear they could dilute the site's ranking power for a given term. I don't want to give away the specific industry, but let's say they have eight pages targeting the term "______ billing software." I'd rather focus their resources on ranking one page for that term. Does that make sense? And if so, how do I do that? The company has a writer that can see if any of the content is good enough to add to their primary ______ billing software page. Would you 301 redirect all these pages to the one you want to rank, or would you canonicalize them? Or am I way off base in my thinking?

Duplicate Content only an Issue on a Huge Scale?
To what extent is duplicate content an issue? We have a support forum with some duplicate content because users ask the same questions. The Moz reports we receive highlights our duplicate content and page title for our support forum as a "big" issue. I'm unsure to what extent it harms our SEO, and making the support section non-crawable would impair our level of support. It would be nice to know for sure if we should be concerned about this, and if yes, how can we do it differently? Thanks, I appreciate you help. -Allan

Google not showing the proper title
I noticed that google is not showing the proper title in the search results. If you search for PhraseExpander, the title that google reports is: PhraseExpander: Text Expander for Windows but in the title of the page I've set Text Expander for Windows - PhraseExpander Why is that? How can I make google report the proper title? Thanks. Andrea
