Does this page crawl well?
-
I just put up a page that uses an image map to illustrate a national currency note.
http://www.antiquebanknotes.com/NationalCurrency/National-Bank-Note-Information.aspx
My goal with this page is get results for National Bank Note. But I know image maps are wierd creatures and not good for linking. My question is, will Google index my tooltips and find this page useful and therefore worthy?
I think the content is useful for my users but I just don't know if the implementation will work well. This screen will eventually have 5 or 6 notes on it and I don't want to do it
the concensus is negative...
Thanks for any advice.

but of course it will index the page. and it has!
as far as... will it find the page useful or therefore worthy is not up to Google but your visitors. To make the page rank you need to include links from other pages that will eventually land your visitors to this page. including call to action buttons etc. I would also suggest to add more content to give the page some density as well.
hope this helped

Regarding #2, I understand your target keyword is the singular version. You hit it in the URL, page title and H1 tag. You do not need to use the singular version every time. You should use the appropriate tense in content. If you wish to use the singular version, find a grammatically correct way of doing such.
Regarding item #4, the note is not working as an image map for me. I am using FF8 as a browser. The note is simply a static image.

Hi Ryan,
First, thank you so much for the interesting feedback... I will learn plenty with this thread I am sure.
#1 Interesting tool validating the html... I am kind of surprised by the errors since the html is very basic. I wonder if it's finding issues with my Masterpage. I will dig in and see if I can clean those up. I have cleaned up my issue with the Div in the Head... which was hurting every page on the site... very nice.
The last 20 errors seem to be a complaint with microsofts image map. Or at least, I need to set noHref somewhere on the image map but I dont' see the property. I will work on that.
#2 I purposely used the singular because that is the exact keyword I want to hit. I figured taking the slight hit for grammar was better to get the exact keyword. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on that trade off or if there really is a tradeoff there.
#3 Yeah, I will be adding some content but not much... the star of this page will be the notes and the breakdown of their anatomy
#4 The note is an image map and I have defined 12 clickable areas on the image where a tooltip will show on click or hover. I thought describing the click to a site user was a little more intuitive than having them hover over. My users will tend to be older.
#5 Fixed.

The web page could be optimized in numerous areas to improve it's crawlability and performance.
1. The page does not use valid HTML. There are 25 coding errors. Most if not all should be corrected. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.antiquebanknotes.com%2FNationalCurrency%2FNational-Bank-Note-Information.aspx&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
2. For best SEO performance, you should improve the page's grammar usage. For example "Below are the major forms of National Bank Note." should end in "notes" (plural).
3. There is almost no textual content on the page. While it is not required, you may wish to add additional content.
4. The page says "Click on any element that you want to know about and read the description." There is no clickable part of the image.
5. The page's meta description is the same as the title.
The page is crawlable but there are many steps which can be taken to improve it's performance in search results.

An informational product page AND a shop page (for same brand)
Hi all, This is my first foray into e-commerce SEO. I'm working with a new client who sells upscale eBikes online. Since his products are expensive, he wants to have informational pages about the brands he sells eg. www.example.com/brand. However these brands are also category pages for his online shop eg. www.example.com/shop/brand I'm worried about keyword cannibalization and adding an extra step/click to get to the shop (right now the navigational menu takes you to the information page and from there you have to click to get to the shop) I'm pretty sure it would make more sense to have ONE killer shopping page that includes all the brand information but I want to be 100% sure before I advise him to take this big step. Thoughts?

New Page Showing Up On My Reports w/o Page Title, Words, etc - However, I didn't create it
I have a WordPress site and I was doing a crawl for errors and it is now showing up as of today that this page : https://thinkbiglearnsmart.com/event-registration/?event_id=551&name_of_event=HTML5 CSS3 is new and has no page title, words, etc. I am not even sure where this page or URL came from. I was messing with the robots.txt file to allow some /category/ posts that were being hidden, but I didn't re-allow anything with the above appendages. I just want to make sure that I didn't screw something up that is now going to impact my rankings - this was just a really odd message to come up as I didn't create this page recently - and that shouldnt even be a page accessible to the public. When I edit the page - it is using an Event Espresso (WordPress plugin) shortcode - and I don't want to noindex this page as it is all of my events. Sorry this post is confusing, any help or insight would be appreciated! I am also interested in hiring someone for some hourly consulting work on SEO type issues if anyone has any references. Thank you!

Can Googlebot crawl the content on this page?
Hi all, I've read the posts in Google about Ajax and javascript (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/174992?hl=en) and also this post: http://moz.com/ugc/can-google-really-access-content-in-javascript-really. I am trying to evaluate if the content on this page, http://www.vwarcher.com/CustomerReviews, is crawlable by Googlebot? It appears not to be. I perused the sitemap and don't see any ugly Ajax URLs included as Google suggests doing. Also, the page is definitely indexed, but appears the content is only indexed via its original source (Yahoo!, Citysearch, Google+, etc.). I understand why they are using this dynamic content, because it looks nice to an end-user and requires little to no maintenance. But, is it providing them any SEO benefit? It appears to me that it would be far better to take these reviews and simply build them into HTML. Thoughts?

How to determine which pages are not indexed
Is there a way to determine which pages of a website are not being indexed by the search engines? I know Google Webmasters has a sitemap area where it tells you how many urls have been submitted and how many are indexed out of those submitted. However, it doesn't necessarily show which urls aren't being indexed.

Can I use canonical tags to merge property map pages and availability pages to their counterpart overview pages?
I have a property website, for each property are 4-5 tabs each with their own URL, these pages include the overview page which is content rich, and auxilliary pages such as maps, availability, can I use a canonical tag to merge the tabs with very little content to their corresponding overview page which is content rich? I.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/overview This page has tabs for map, town info, availability which all have their own url i.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/map
