Quick Seo question regarding 301 redirect

Hi everyone and thank you for showing interested in my problem and for helping me out with this easy thing i have going on
Here is how it puts out :
I have 2 websites, same niche, mostly same keywords.
Site #1 holding strong on google #2 ranking for months now.
Site #2 was holding strong in google top 10 rankings until 2 weeks ago when it got sandboxed for some reason
I want to use a 301 permanent redirect from Site #2 to Site #1 to pass all the link juice onto Site #1 and hopefully beat the #1 spot
The question:
Will this affect Site #1 is anyway, considering Site #2 is in somehow sandbox ( i assume that, since he dropped more then 70 positions over night )
Is thins a good think to do or i risk damaging Site #1 by doing this ?

There is no garentee that a 301 will pass links juice.
If you try to redirecet one website tothe other there is a good chance it will not pass link juice unless it is the same content. meaning switching domains.
simpley 301 redirecting to the home page with also see the links dissmissed.
Thyere is a matt cutts video thats points out that you can not take it for granted that they will pass the link juice, it has to be an honest legit rerason to redirect.
but i have never heard of it hurting

we had worked with a customer on a nearly identical scenario. The customer did what you were considering and saw no measurable improvement. The two domains in question were bike.com and beyondbikes.com. At the time the consensus was that "most" of the link juice and trust would get passed. After about 9 months, the reverse was tried with horrible results. Just about all rankings were lost. My advice would be to manage the properties separately if google ranking factors are top of your metrics.

do you know why site 2 got flaged? You must have an idea?
I would say if your problems are not link related, then no it will not harm your site,. after all a 301 is simply redirecting requests for a page.
But if you have some paid links or somthing to do with links, then maybe it will.

301 redirection for e-commerce website
Hi moz community, I am the web agency for a e-commerce website. Its current domain is https://www.liquorland.co.nz but now all the e-commerce part will be moved to a sub-domain https://shop.liquorland.co.nz. There are thousands of e-commerce current being indexed in Google (i.e., 15,500) plus they also have a mobile version of the page like /mobile/default.aspx. Is it necessary to 301 redirect all the pages? We are afraid it may slow down the website because the request will go through thousands of filters. Is it OK to just redirect the main categories? 301 redirects- how long to keep and how many are too many?
Hi, I was told we have way too many 301 redirects on our site. We have some that have been there for 3 years. Our site is datacard.com . Question- how long should you keep a redirect out there when building a new page and expiring an old page? Is it 6 months, is it a certain time frame? wondering what the best practices are? Thanks! Site Penalized - 301 Redirect Question
Hello, We have a website that was penalized roughly two years by Google for "Unnatural Links"... We are experiencing a lot of problems with this site, completely unrelated to the penalty or SERPS, and we're debating doing a 301 Re-direct to another site we own that is totally clean and has no "Unnatural Links". If we do a 301 from the penalized site to our alternative website, will there be any cross-contamination? Will the penalty carry over to our other site? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

What would happen if 301 redirects were not in place
Good Morning from 14 degrees C sunny Wetherby UK 🙂 My question is please.... "When a new site is given a total makover ie old urls are re written to radically different ones I know if you dont set up 301 redirects the infamous 404 error page will rear its head. But i wonder if 301 redirects were not configured how long on average does it take google to index the new site and serp links finally point to the new site". Thanks in advance 🙂

Any issues with lots of pages issuing 301 redirects?

301 redirecting some pages directly, and the rest to a single page
I've read through the Redirect guide here already but can't get this down in my .htaccess I want to redirect some pages specifically (/contactinfo.html to the new /contact.php) And I want all other pages (not all have equivalent pages on the new site) to redirect to my new (index.php) homepage. How can I set it up so that some specific pages redirect directly, and all others go to one page? I already have the specific oldpage.html -> newpage.php redirects in place, just need to figure out the broad one for everything else.
