I will appreciate the exact definition of the term External followed Links and the term Followed Linking Root Domain when using OpenSiteExplorer on Page level and on Sub-domain level.
let's say my site is www.eitan.com and that's my home page as well.
which of the following will be consider as external link / linking root domain?
Thanks a lot

Hey Lawrence,
Thanks for the heads up - I read the question too fast and missed the root domain. I've edited my answer to reflect this.
Cheers.

Cyrus what you are saying makes no sense. You are contradicting yourself:
A. there is only 1 external linking root domain, which is "www.eitan.es"
B. You said "An external link is a link from an external root domain," but "www.eitan.es" IS an external root domain that is linking www.eitan.com

thanks

To add to what Nicholas has said, in terms of OSE, all of these are on the same root domain except for www.eitan.es. The rest all reside on eitan.com, so that's a total of 2 linking root domains.
An external link, within OSE, is defined as a link from an external root domain. So in this case, there is 1 external links, at least according to the way Open Site Explorer counts external links.
Also, Google sometimes counts links from subdomains as external, sometimes as internal, depending on how much they believe the subdomains are related to one another.

Someone else'll smack me if I'm wrong, however:
That's your only external linking root domain. And, your only true external link, too. Since September Google has considered subdomains internal links.

Competitor getting External Links from search.aol.com
Recently, I noticed that one of the competitors I track within my Moz campaign received about 12 new inbound links. As a result, there DA jumped about 10 points. I reviewed these new external links and was surprised to see that they are all "search.aol.com/aol/search?query= ..." with Link Anchor Text that is good for the industry we compete in. Can anyone tell me why these are being counted as "Inbound Links". It just doesn't seem right. Is this some sort of black hat seo tactic?

How do Infographics provide links? (example inside)
Hi, I don't get it...
Moz Pro | | BeytzNet
I've encountered the following infographic that seemed to do well: http://www.brilliance.com/4cs-of-diamonds-infograph As you can see, the page has thousands of social shares from Tweets to Facebook and obviously Pinterest. However, when I placed this page on Open Site Explorer (click to view) I see only 9 external links and page authority of 28/100. And this seems to me like a successful infographic. Any explanations? Comparing Domain Authority Scores
Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores. Can you give me a rule of thumb. For PageRank, each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses. Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

Inbound Links to Subdomains
Hi I want to gather a list of sites that are linking to individual blog items. Is there a way of gathering this data easily in Open Site Explorer? I've tried putting in the url/blog domain in the search box, and this just brings up those sites that link to the blog home page. I want to see all the inbound links that link to ALL subdomains within a particular URL. Any help appreciated. thanks

How do you track new inbound links?
Hello Fellow SEOs, I've been charged with managing and tracking my company's linkbuilding efforts. I'd love to hear from others experienced in this area: -is there a way in OSE to sort links by date? -if this isn't possible, how can you tell what new links come in every month? Is this a manual process of downloading and comparing inbound links every week? This seems pretty tedious and I would love to hear what you all do and if there is a better way. I do have a Google Alert out for my company name, but that doesn't necessarily give me what I need. Thank you!

Why is Followed Linking Root Domains higher than External Followed Links?
Surely there must be at least one external link for each linking root domain? Some results for smaller sites give a higher number of domains linking in than incoming links - e.g. www.forbesandsawyer.co.uk Under Subdomain metrics: External Followed Links - 1 Followed Linking Root Domains - 2 Surely 2 root domains would mean AT LEAST 2 external followed links? Thanks, Andrew

TLD vs Sub Domain in Regards to Domain Authority
I have always been under the impression that top level (or root) domains can hold different domain authority than that of a sub domain. Meaning that sub domain's and TLD can hold different ranks and strength in search engine result pages. Is this a correct or just an assumption? If so when i add a root domain and subdomain into the campaign manager i get back the same link information and domain authority? www.datalogic.com

Competitive Domain Analysis
In one of my campaigns, competitive domain analysis shows that the total links is always the same as ext. followed links. This can't be right as the site has both external links and internal links. What would be the possible issue here? Thanks for sharing your insight.
