Very confused on site.com/ or not using a /

I'm wanting to put the rel="canonical" tag on my homepage but I'm not sure which to use?
How would you know what to use and always links to, http://www.site.com or http://www.site.com**/**
Personally I never knew there was a difference until I used the seomoz tool and I wasn't using the tag.

Hi GYMSN,
If you have a rel=canonical already then you should not worry. canonical tag was released to solve the problem of creating duplicate content through different path to the same page.
If you already have the "/" in the canonical, then I wouldn't advice to make any change. You are ready to optimize further other parts of the website.
Good luck

Hi Istvan. Thanks for the response. When I checked both urls I seem to be coming up with the same link count and overall metrics using opensiteexplorer. All my sites are wordpress and I use all-in-one SEO and it appears to automatically add the / via rel canonical so maybe this won't allow me to check which is best?

Hi GYMSN,
Personally I would check the following before applying the canonical:
1. Check the incoming links to www.yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com/
2. Compare the two lists, is there a major difference between them? Which one is getting better links?
If you have answered the question, you know which one to point out.
I hope that helped,
Istvan

Other tools to check keyword competition/difficulty
I really like the Keyword Analysis tool/process at MOZ, particularly the composite score of keyword difficulty. However, on my budget/account level I can only check 400 kw's per day and sometimes that's not enough. So my question is... What other tools do you rely on or recommend to provide a preliminary measure of competition for a keyword? Not Adwords competition, but the kind of analysis Moz does by looking at specific ranking factors like phrase the page authority, domain authority, kw in title tag, URL, anchor text, number of external links to the page, etc. Are there any other tools you'd recommend for checking those kind of competition/difficulty factors for a keyword? I know SpyFu.com, Open Site Explorer, Majestic, etc will provide backlink metrics, but hoping for something more comprehensive. Thanks!!

What does Mozcape actually do and what types of businesses use it?
I'm making an effort to use more of the Moz tools, but some I really don't understand...Mozcape would be chief on that list. What does it do exactly and for what purpose? I read the API Wiki, but it sounds to me a lot like Open Site Explorer...but complicated...so I assume I must be missing something or why build the thing? Also, do local businesses even use this or is this more for national e-commerce sites? Thanks, Ruben

Finding all search terms/keywords
Hi everyone! Is there a report I can run on SEOMoz that will show all of the search terms that people are using to find my site? I want to analyze where I am doing well and where I can use some work, but I'd like to have that as a starting point. Thanks in advance!

Confused on setting up my domain in a campaign
I have a website that is www.example.com. When I first setup my campaign in SEOMoz, I missed the instructions that stated I need to set up my domain as it appeared in the browser. Thus, I set it up as example.com. When I realized my mistake, I setup a second campaign as www.example.com and am running them side by side to see the differences. My question has to do with the best setup. I have a blog that is a subdomain as blog.example.com. It appears that the www.example.com campaign is not crawling the blog pages but example.com is. Are there any downsides in setting up this campaign as example.com? I have a number of other sites with the same issue so would like to get this resolved before I setup the additional sites. Thanks for any assistance or insights into ways I may be "shooting myself in the foot" with the wrong domain structure in my campaign settings.

Does SEOMOZ use Google Search?
I run a Joomla site and have noticed users having a hard time finding what they are looking for. The default Joomla search is lacking and the latest Joomla search component I added is better but still not great. I've always been able to find what I'm looking for on SeoMoz, do you guys use Google Site Search?

Links not appearing on Open Site Explorer
My site gained several new inbound links during December and only two of them are not all showing up on the latest Linkscape update. It seems to be the links that were created at the end of the month which are showing up, whereas a handful at the beginning of the month are nowhere to be seen. All the linking pages have been indexed by Google the links are do-follow, and one of the sites in particular is not obsure and has a DA in the 90's. I appreciate the Linkscape doesn't index everything, but I would have thought that more tof the results of my efforts would have shown up in OSE. I'd be really grateful if anyone could explain this to me please. Thanks Ben

Is there such thing as a site free from errors?
Or is this a given? I am new to SEO and SEOmoz. One of my campaigns is completley free of errors...the others are a work in progress. Now I realize that SEO is never done, but can a site actually be free of errors? If so... I just gave myself a pat on the back.
