Online Pharmacy Client
-
So... Have a client with a physical pharmacy in the UK, they are looking to branch out and start selling online... Primarily high value 'embarrassing medicines' etc... The have an existing companynamepharmacy.co.uk domain that has acted as a brochure site for the past 4 years (thats the domain age) still with low domain authority etc but they've also purchased a keyword match domain citynameonlinepharmacy.co.uk which they thought would be better to use...
They are fully prepared for a reasonable wait on the organic listings and will head up the project with PPC and Google shopping integration which is known to be successful for other similar online pharmacies...
Anyone tackled building an online pharmacy site from the ground up with any advice, specifically on the domain front, there is a trade off between the newly registered keyword match domain and the 4 year old company name match - Its clear with a pharma industry site we need to build trust so need to tick every box on that front...
-
I have built a website for a pharmaceutical company but the problem is that my client was a trade supplier, not a retail seller - he was not interested in SEO at all for the site.
There are some important points you raise though. Obviously it would be easier to rank an exact match domain name but the reverse side of the coin is the building trust using the company name and reputation... This is vital for the market they are in if they are looking to increase revenue by using an eCommerce website - there are so many spammy sites in this market. The domain age on the old site your client has should be important and help it rank quicker.
There is no reason why (over time) you cannot rank well with a website without its main keyword in the domain name, it will just take more effort and a better/stronger strategy.
It might be worth looking at brainstorming ideas at this point... Why not keep the old domain with the company name in and use it for the main eCommerce website but then look at creating a niche domain for the client with the keyword in the URL?
One thing I would say is to be very careful with SEO in this market. Due to so many rogues in the industry for medicine there is so much spam out there. Getting good quality relevant links might be hard, just be careful where you get your links from.
EDIT: Perhaps the last sentence did not raise the point I was looking to make. The point I was trying to raise is that this industry generally uses very black hat techniques when optimising and are looking to make quick £££ until their site gets sandboxed. Just make sure you are careful with the techniques.

Our company creates cobranded subdomains for our clients; does that hurt our SEO?
We create cobranded websites for local businesses in many towns throughout the United States, always under a subdomain of our main site (e.g., afcreditunion.teachbanzai.com). Does this hurt our SEO rankings? We have a very specific reason for creating these microsites, because it's a high selling point. I've read and watched the material here on Moz regarding subdomains and subfolders, but it doesn't quite answer my question: since we create all these microsites not with the intent of passing authority to our website but with the intent of making their microsite have their branding.

Should client sub domains appear in Google or not?
I have a client who has created a number of login pages for their clients (eg. clientA.domain.com, clientB.domain.com). They are all password protected. Just wondering if this has any impact on SEO, good or bad?

Client has an inexplicable jump in crawled pages being reported in Google Search Console
Recently a client of mine noticed an inexplicable jump in crawled pages being reported in Google Search Console. We researched the following culprits and found nothing: Rel=canonicals are put in place No SSL/non SSL duplication We used a tool to extrapolate search query page data from Google Search Insights; nothing unusual No dynamic pages being made on the website All necessary landing pages are in the XML sitemap Could this be a glitch in GSC? We are wondering what the heck is going on. 7eaeS

Online Store With 4 Products Available in 50 Sizes, Need Tips Categories/Products
I own and manage 2 online stores selling furnace filters. http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com and http://www.filtrationmontreal.com/ We have 4 different qualities furnace filters and each of them are avaible in almost 50 different sizes. My store is setup with almost 200 different products. ( 4 filtres X 50 sizes) None of them have variable. This was a lots of work to create 200 different products. The reason I did this is because when searching in search engine, vistors will use such keywords: 16x20x4 filter 20x25x2 furnace filter a/c filter 10x20x1 replacement filter online 20x20x1 16x25x5 filter toronto and so on... Must keywords request in search engine will included the furnace filter size. QUESTIONS: all my products descriptions are the same, the only difference is the filter size, is this Duplicate Content? will it be better to sell 4 filters with 50 variables? if my store use variable I don't see how I will rank on Google when shopper search for keyword like mention before in this post. My page name will always be the same. My description page the same and so on... Furnace Filters Canada is on BigCommerce platform and I love it. I'm in the process of moving Filtration Montreal to CoreCommerce. You can have a look at it here http://furnacefilter.corecommerce.com I'm very limited in SEO knowledge, the way I have setup http://furnacefilter.corecommerce.com I thing is the best way for SEO. What is your opinion & recommendations. Thank you for your help, BigBlaze

SEO Link on Clients Site
Hey SEOMozzers, Quick question. In light of the possible 'over-optimisation' penalties pending from Google should we be looking to remove the SEO links to our site from our Clients websites? I appreciate that including a link to our site from an anchor text that includes 'SEO' in it may be like waving a flag to Search Engines saying we are carrying out SEO on our Clients sites. Obviously we would sooner risk a drop in our SEO keyword rankings than risk a penalty of any kind for our Clients. What is the recommended practice here?

Using microformatting for multiple online review source
I sat in on the Microformats & Schema.org – Real life Use Cases webcast today. Thank you for providing that helpful information. This discussion question is related to microformat in relation to online reviews: I work for a local auto dealership group. Each of our dozen+ dealers have reviews on Google, dealerrater, cars.com, edmunds, etc. Is there a SEO benefit to compiling online reviews from multiple sources mentioned above into our site in a microformat (knowing the reviews existed elsewhere) or would we have to use a third party tool such as Bazaarvoice & capture our reviews through there? Have any of you pulled reviews from various sources onto your site & used the microformatting technique? If so, what was the outcome? Thanks

Entering into a new website franchise model, currently subdomains, client wants scalability. Best approach?
This is my first experience with a franchise model business. It is less than 1 year old and on page SEO is in pitiful shape with hundreds of subdomains already for specific locations. What is the best approach to take here? I've seen a lot of debate regarding subdomains and folders and it seems the folder structure may be the best long term course of action but I'm still a bit unclear on this. What is the best approach to ensure that all SEO addressed on the site has the most impact and moving forward, what is the best method to scaling the SEO for franchisee owners. What is the best practice to help each location be best positioned in search in the future, how much should the corporate franchise site typically provide in terms of SEO services to franchisees, and how does the lead SEO consultant scale those services to franchisees?
