Duplicate Content
-
I have tried searching for an exact example of the issues I am seeing, but didn't come up with anything. I decided to post my own question so I can get a direct answer on what I am experiencing.
I recently took over a website and its' existing SEO practices with it. Upon placing the site on SEOmoz, I received many (LOTS) of duplicate content warnings. Pretty much, this is how the website is setup:
but it is also coming up as domain.com/keyword-is-here/index.htm
-
Should I setup a redirect so domain.com/keyword-is-here/index.htm points to domain.com/keyword-is-here.htm or should I just leave it alone since it's pointing to the same exact?
Any information on this questions is greatly appreciated in advance.

Technically the pages are the same - but using a 301 will point the search engine to just look at and rank the link "domains.com/keyword-is-here" versus the index.html that goes along with that keyword? Is this correct?
Thanks!

I would 301 redirect the index.html page to the http://www.domain.com/keyword-is-here. There's no reason to have both pages if they're the exact same content.
This is sorta covered under the "SEO Best Practice" section from page I sent you to: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/canonicalization (although I know it can be a little unclear)
This page also gives a good yet slightly different explanation that might be easier to follow. Scroll down to the "Canonical and Duplicate Versions of Content" section with the pink diamonds: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development
-
So place in the index.html under /keywords-is-here/ ?
Will this fix it from indexing the non www. version as well?
-
Yes, you'll want to forward the "domain.com/keyword-is-here/index.htm" version to the "domain.com/keyword-is-here/" version.
Here's an explanation of what you're looking for: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/canonicalization

Duplicate content issue
I'm getting duplicate content warnings from Moz for various slideshows on my posts and pages in Wordpress. It seems when I create a slideshow it exists as its own page and as these have no text Moz sees them as duplicates. Here are some examples - http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/?gallery_page=slideshow&pp_gallery_id=1331991312

Moz says is a duplicate of -
http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/?gallery_page=slideshow&pp_gallery_id=1000144730 The second of those two slideshows is on this page -http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/menorca-wedding/ but also exists as the page above. How can i avoid these being seen as duplicate content?0 -
What's my best strategy for Duplicate Content if only www pages are indexed?
The MOZ crawl report for my site shows duplicate content with both www and non-www pages on the site. (Only the www are indexed by Google, however.) Do I still need to use a 301 redirect - even if the non-www are not indexed? Is rel=canonical less preferable, as usual? Facts: the site is built using asp.net the homepage has multiple versions which use 'meta refresh' tags to point to 'default.asp'. most links already point to www Current Strategy: set the preferred domain to 'www' in Google's Webmaster Tools. set the Wordpress blog (which sits in a /blog subdirectory) with rel="canonical" to point to the www version. Ask programmer to add 301 redirects from the non-www pages to the www pages. Ask programmer to use 301 redirects as opposed to meta refresh tags & point all homepage versions to www.site.org. Does this strategy make the most sense? (Especially considering the non-indexed but existent non-www pages.) Thanks!!

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

Adding canonical still returns duplicate pages
According to SEOmoz, several of my campaigns show that I have duplicate pages (SEOmoz Errors). Upon reading more about how to resolve the issue, I followed SEOmoz's suggestion to add rel='canonical' <links>to each page. After the next SEOmoz crawl, the number of SEOmoz Errors related to duplicate pages remained the same and the number of SEOmoz notices shot up indicating that it recognized that I added rel='canonical'.</links> I'm still puzzled as to why the SEOmoz errors did not go down with respect to duplicate page errors after I added rel='canonical', especially since SEOmoz noticed that I added them. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks,

Why am I getting duplicate content errors on same page?
In the SEOmoz tools I am getting multiple errors for duplicate page content and duplicate page titles for one section on my site. When I check to see which page has the duplicate title/content the url listed is exactly the same. All sections are set up the same, so any ideas on why I would be getting duplication errors in just this one section and why they would say the errors are on the same page (when I only have one copy uploaded on the server)?
