My Yahoo Directory listing isn't being indexed by Google - what do to?
-
I couldn't find this elsewhere in Q&A...so here goes.
I recently (a couple of months back) shelled out $300 for a Yahoo Directory listing. My site got included, but my PageRank didn't budge. Figuring it may take a while, I kept on checking Google's index for the link - still nothing.
Now it seems as if some Yahoo & other directory categories are excluded from the Google Index, rendering the links useless from a PR point of view.
Anything I can do about this? I've heard of suggestions like linking to the specific page of the category where I'm listed, in the hope Google will crawl and re-index, but I don't know. Any thoughts / suggestions?
BTW the directory category link is: http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Business_to_Business/Communications_and_Networking/Telecommunications/Wireless/Software.
Thanks in advance...

Thanks Jane, Alec, for the great answers. I'll concentrate on SERP more than PR from now on. And avoid directories!

Hi Dusan,
I'm in agreement with Alex here - there is plenty of reason why Google would pay little attention to many web directories, but the primary reason today is going to be a lack of good content. After Panda, pages are being held to a higher standard for the quality of their content, and web directories rarely include any original content at all.
For SEO purposes, being linked to from old fashioned directories isn't a bad thing, and could either be of minimal help, or a little bit helpful. However, it's not a link building tactic that you can really rely on anymore.
The PageRank advice is true too: at best, toolbar PR is a good indication as to whether there's something really wrong with your site (i.e. you lose your toolbar PR overnight, or it drops from very high to very low). At worst, it's misleading and outdated, and no indication of how well you can rank.
Cheers,
Jane

I don't have any insight into this, but am interested what people in the know think...
Google not indexing Yahoo Directory listings makes 100% sense to me - they don't like taking signals from paid links, Yahoo directory is one of the biggest paid-only link directories. It wouldn't take many manual reviews for Google to entirely devalue every Yahoo Directory listing.
Also, I don't think you should be worrying about your PR all that much - part of the reason it's updated so infrequently is because the big G doesn't want webmasters to obsess over their pageranks... SERP rankings however, are updated as often as they need to be, and so are a far better measure of your SEO success.

Does no-indexed page has an impact on bounce rate
my question is: I have a page that contains some external links, I know when visitors click on them and leave my site it hurts my bounce rate, But I have a solution for that, I am using external link redirection code, with this code after users clicking on external links they are not leaving my site and first went to some link like this: "http://mysite.com/redirect/https://externalsite.com/" and after 10 seconds they redirect to the external site, I make this redirect page noindex and nofollow. but the question is does this noindex page can decrease my page bounce rate because users don't leave my site and first go to another page of my site. but I don't know does no-indexed page has an impact on bounce rate or my struggle is worthless

Paid directory links
Just going through my competitors back links, and discovered a couple of directories who charge a small fee for a listing (£20) (one way link) or a free listing (with a reciprocal link) they both have PR of 50 so I was wondering are these type of links still worth it? Best wishes. David.

301 Redirect and Google...
Hi all Recently, Google has indexed the landing page url for our product differently. This has just happened. So now, when you used search for "DocRead" you would find the top result being : "http://www.collaboris.com/products/policy-and-procedure-management-software" which is what i want. However, now it's indexing it as "http://www.collaboris.com/products" this page is simply a redirect to our product page as it's part of the menu. If I look in fiddler when requesting http://www.collaboris.com/products I can see its doing a 301 redirect, which is fine. Why is Google storing the wrong url ? I also noticed we dropped in our rankings quite significantly last week.

Should we use 'disavow' if we dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning?
We dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning about bad links on google webmasters. Is it a good idea to find and collect the worst links and disavow them? As there was no warning we can only guess links were the problem, but it seems likely. However we do not want to send any requests to google if no warning was sent. Can disavow be used in this way, or should we do more manually? (We are hoping remove links + increase very solid links + optimize for key words will help revive serps) Many thanks. James

Which Article Directories are still relevant?
Hi, I know Article Directories are not valued as high as they once were and many took a hit from Google. But are there any Article Directories that are still worth posting content on? Thanks!

How good is a backlink that's in the footer
Hello, The strongest site in our industry (according to domain authority and excluding wikipedia) said that they would put a sitewide link to us in their footer. We're good friends with them. It would be right next to the copyright. Our site is nlpca (dot) com The partner site is nlpu (dot) com The link will say something like "More NLP Training" with the "NLP" as the link. We're targeting the keyword "NLP" How much will this move us up for the keyword "NLP"? Right now we're on the 3rd page for that term. I also want to make sure that it's a white hat move. Thanks!
